Hopefully you'll have found your way here.

Here's a new race list list, feel free to add to it:

Playtex Moonwalk: 20 May, JoPG, Posey
British 10K: 2nd July, Crunchie, Titchy
RFL Newbury: 2nd July, Twink, Mini Twink, Twink's mum
RFL July: Dingle

Too late for me tonight but I'll post some 5k & 10k training ideas here soon.

OP posts:
crunchie · 08/06/2006 17:49

OK I'll allow you 2 minutes then!!

I did 6.5 miles the other day in 56 mins, therefore I should be on for about 53 - 54 mins. Therefore in a race situation I should do nearer 53, if yo think you are near 55, then 2 mins is fair.

What do you think???

bear in mind I will post my time (If you want, if not I'll keep it a secret until you do yours) Also it will be MY time form my watch not the official time as in teh London one I took at least 2 -3 mns to start.

Is that OK, or do you not want a handicap???

leogaela · 08/06/2006 21:28

really sorry to hear so many of you are suffering injuries and not feeling well.

Happy to say that I am doing great. We are off tomorrow for the weekend, Sunday is my 10K! I'm really quite excited about it! I haven't managed to run since sunday but will try to do a warm up run tomorrow and saturday.

Hope you all have good weekends and good running!

Chapsmum, I thought you hated running! What's going on? Wink. Great to see you here :).

Dannie · 08/06/2006 22:13

Crunchie, you're right, two minutes is good, cos then I'm running to my target time, not an unattainable one. Please post your time, then we can all congratulate you and I'll know what I'm aiming for!

chapsmum · 08/06/2006 23:27

L, I am a closet fell runner!!
But only when I am forced into it. my running was plagued with injureis only because I was pronating. once that had been sorted out Iknow it is the best way to get fit quickly. and I have an adventure race in september....Grin

quanglewangle · 09/06/2006 01:47

You are all doing so well Envy, though sorry about all the injuries.
My foot is still painful. The question is, will I be able to run the RFL or will I have to limp round?
And why aren't the press camping outside my house? Aren't they interested?

Posey · 09/06/2006 16:16

Ah well, smog levels are predicted to be at such a high level this weekend in the east and south that exercising outside is being discouraged. A lot of very slow RFLers on Hampstead Heath on Sunday methinks.

busywizzy · 10/06/2006 18:17

Went running this afternoon for the first time in three weeks since injurying my knee. It seemed to hold out OK although I did take it really (really, really) easy. Going to rest it for a few days now and then run again mid week.

God, it was hot.

themoon66 · 10/06/2006 19:01

i went running late last night for the first time in 4 weeks after spraining my ankle. God it felt good to be back, but hard work. I'd swear someone increased the gravitational pull of the earth since I last ran.... else i've put on 5 stone!!

Posey · 11/06/2006 14:01

Well just back from the Hampstead Heath RFL.
My first ever foray into "official" running and it was hot and hilly. BUT, it was brill. Only started running a month or 2 ago, and managed to run the whole way, no walking. Dead chuffed! I know its not a marathon, but as a former 10 a day smoker who hasn't even run for a bus in 18 years, I'm feeling really pleased. Crossing line in about 32 minutes with dh, dd and ds cheering. What a great feeling Grin
Thanks for reading my self indulgent little spiel! Now I know why runners run!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/06/2006 14:09

There'll be no stopping you now Posey Smile well done!!

JoPG · 11/06/2006 14:53

Well done Posey. Rather you than me in this heat! What is your next challenge??

Posey · 11/06/2006 15:49

Don't know what to try next! There's a 10k in Beaulieu in the New Forest which is very near the inlaws. Thats beginning of October.
Whats anyone else got lined up?

Dannie · 11/06/2006 22:04

I'm proud to announce that I came last in the mothers' race at DS1's sports day yesterday. In my defence I'd point out that only six of us took part and I was probably 10 years older than the other contestants. Also, I like long plodding races and have never fancied myself over 200 metres. In happier news, I am training again, and since I'm threated by a MIL visit next weekend, I may do the RfL course twice just to kep me busy Grin

themoon66 · 12/06/2006 10:00

Hurray hurray.... My ankle finally seems to be better. My running buddy dragged me out for 4 miles last night and I have no ill-effects today. I may be brave and go out with my running club on Tuesday, which will be about 6 - 7 miles.

Pidge · 12/06/2006 21:42

Good news Busy on the knee - hope it keeps well. Also to themoon66. It's so frustrating when you can't get out there in my experience.

I am ever so excited by my Sunday run - so be warned am about to gush!! I've been trying to run about an hour and a half on Sundays for the last few weeks. But this week we were due to see the in-laws in North London, and I wasn't sure how I was going to fit in my run. So I decided to run part of the way there and have dp pick me up in the car with the kids. We live in S.E. London, so I headed up for about 45 mins towards the Thames, then over the river, and up through the City, past King's Cross and beyond. It was just so thrilling to be running 'across a town' if you see what I mean, not in a circle and ending up where you started. Very exhilerating. Flipping hot though too. I took water, but ran out near the end. Anyway, about 8.5 miles, and I timed my arrival to meet dp perfectly. I'd just turned into the agreed meeting road, when he glided up in the car.

Will stop gushing now!

leogaela · 13/06/2006 08:38

Well done Posey! THat's a really nice post! Hopefully lots of inspiration to other posters and lurkers :)!
I love the bit 'now I know why runner's run'. Difficult to explain it to people who say 'oh, not I can't run, I don't like it'!

Chapsmum, I read a great book about fell running (forget name and author (david someone) but if you are interested). It was based on his 3 attempts to do a big circular run in the lakedistrict topping a certain number of peaks in 24 hours, but also went into the whole history, characters of the best in the past and current. Really intereting read. We don't have fell running as such here, but a lot of uphill marathons and runs. Hills were a challenge to me (coming from Norfolk) when I first came here, but I love running hills now, hate running flat.

Busy & themoon - great to hear your injuries are getting better :)!

Quangle, sorry to hear you still can't run :(!

Pidge :)!

I did my 10K on Sunday, it was extremely hot and I was a little disappointed. Started too fast and with that and the heat the whole run was a struggle. But still I did it and have a new post-pregnancy target to beat (55.49). We don't have many 10Ks here, half marathons come later in the year so the next one I do will be a 14K. And if I manage to get my butt on my race bike, and the water warms up I may even do a mini-triathlon before the season ends :)!

themoon66 · 13/06/2006 09:33

I don't do hills much either, due to living in Lincolnshire.

Well done Leo on that 55 min time. I'm doing about 56/57 at the moment, depending on the incline and the heat etc.

My PB is 54. I would love to crack 50 mins, but at my age I'm starting to think its unrealistic.

Posey · 13/06/2006 21:08

Thanks for all the nice messages!
Pidge your run sounded lovely. You must've practically passed my door Smile
Am being inspired by all the 10k talk - keep it up!

Twink · 13/06/2006 22:31

Yikes, been away again so don't know where to start ! Nice to see some upbeat messages, it had become the injury thread recently. Hope many of them are starting to improve.

Posey, you really made me smile, very well done but you're on the slippery slope now, I started with RFL too, followed by an Autumn 10k :)

Pidge, am seriously impressed with your pacing, hope he realised how well you'd judged things !

Leogola, I think the book you're referring to is 'Feet in the Clouds: A story of Fell Running & Obsession' by Richard Askwith - if it's not then this is worth a read too, awesome !

Another good one I've read recently is 'Not Normal Behaviour' by Stuart Staples, detailing his journey from novice triathlete to Ironman - his wife should get a special award though, can't see Mumsnetters getting the support he did !!

Pidge · 14/06/2006 13:25

Leo - what distance is the Aegeriseelauf?

Twink - I told dp how impressed he should be with my pacing, and he just said "Well, you know how fast you run!!!". Pah. Actually I ran pretty cautiously due to the heat, but that turned out to be about right for my 10min mile estimate.

Posey - will give you a wave if ever I do that route again. My next plan is to run the whole way to the in-laws, which would nearly be a half marathon!

Twink · 14/06/2006 16:49

The Concorde Triathlon is a sprint distance run by \link{http://www.thamesvalleytriathletes.co.uk/\Thames Valley Triathletes} and is held at a sports centre in a village west of Reading. It's very friendly, I did it for the first time 2 years ago on my MTB and wasn't the only one. This year's will be my first race on the road bike dh got me for my birthday - I'll be the one upside down in a ditch when I can't get my feet out of my clipless pedals...

I think it's 400m (pool) swim, 21k out & back bike, 5k mixed terrain 1 lap run. What I really need is a 400m swim 20k bike 21k run...
