Dry January - a month off the booze - anyone want to join me?

Doshusallie · 01/01/2013 14:54

I am determined to do this - I drink most days, it's become a habit, just a glass or two, more at weekends, but really want to give myself an extended break.

The worst time of day for me is between 6-8 pm, before we eat. So am going to try and eat earlier and it would be great if I could come on here and get some support about that time of day!

does anybody want to have a dry January with me?

And yes I do have a hangover today Grin

Ditto on Becks Blue. I was pregnant through a very long hot summer (or so it felt at the time!) and on those nice lazy pre-DC afternoons when others were quaffing lovely cold lagers at BBQ's etc, I did indulge in a few Becks Blue, they were a real treat for me, and made the whole thing just a touch more bearable at 8 months gone after drinking nothing remotely interesting for months on end previously!!

I'm doing it, along with 5:2 and the 30 Day Shred. I've put on a stone in the last year so need to do something drastic.

Haven't had a drink since 30th December and I'm finding it much easier than I thought. Most nights I would have at least 2 large glasses of red.

furdycone. 2/2 sounds like the way forward for me - after January of course. Grin

Checking in now to keep everyone on the straight and narrow for this, our first Friday night, as I (unfortunately) am going out, to a pub of all places Sad. My advice is to eat early and have some fizzy or nice drinks on hand for when you want to sup, great advice to do it out of a wine glass maybe?

Focus on the deep unbroken sleep you are going to have, the empty calories you won't be swallowing, the clear, unfuzzy head you will have in the morning!!!!

GO TEAM!!! [ducks in case anyone lobs a heavy object at my head]

I quite fancy a glass of wine as a reward for getting through the week but I am determined not to fall at the first fence!

Haha, thanks kotinka. I probably have enough lippies to beautify the whole of Mumsnet so maybe I'll go with chocolate instead! I really want to stay sober so there's not a chance of me caving in

I have a nice cold bottle of pepsi max in the fridge...

Think of the fresh face tomorrow

See, I'm sleeping worse, than ever before and feel like shite in the mornings - blimey, I feel totally rubbish now - so I don't even have that to look forward to in the morning. However, the empty calories are keeping me sober. Putting gym kit on for the first time in ages this morning was not a pretty sight! Shock

That said, there' not that many calories in a gin and slimline, is there?! Grin

I trying hard to resist the call of vino; I hope it is just habit. I started a new job this week and my Friday night post work treat is out of the question. No lunch and so we are having a chinese takeaway.

I have kept wine out of the fridge on purpose. I am taking DS out for breakie in the morning.

I've put on a stone in a year and teh only thing different is the vino.

Good luck everyone.

I ate my dinner without any wine. That was the test for me, when i'm hungry and there's nice food at the table. Now I am full and happy to nibble some chocolate with a cuppa and a good film.

That's the first friday I haven't drank since I was last pregnant years ago. I might be able to do this!

Day 4 done and dusted and not feeling too many pangs. Lemongrass cordial and tonic is lovely and I am feeling a clarity I have not had for a long time (and its only day 4!) I do I hope my resolve stays. Having said that, the 1st Feb is a Friday and I've already booked a baby sitter and am planning a night on the tiles Grin Call it a reward. I am also going to get a new hair cut to reward myself (all that money saved)

Well done ladies, it is doable and next Friday night will be easier I'm sure.

Epic fail in the spud household. Managed 1st and 2nd then DD1 landed a job yesterday so DH brought home a bottle of fizz to celebrate. Then, tonight, whilst putting some washing in the dryer in the garage, I chanced upon a bottle of mulled wine and have has half of it.....pathetic.
