Dry January - a month off the booze - anyone want to join me?

Doshusallie · 01/01/2013 14:54

I am determined to do this - I drink most days, it's become a habit, just a glass or two, more at weekends, but really want to give myself an extended break.

The worst time of day for me is between 6-8 pm, before we eat. So am going to try and eat earlier and it would be great if I could come on here and get some support about that time of day!

does anybody want to have a dry January with me?

And yes I do have a hangover today Grin

My OH does Wing Chun too, imnotdrunk :)

I won't manage a Dry Feb but I'm not drinking now until 16th Feb.

Thanks gazza. I'm feeling awful today, but it's jet lag rather than a hangover. I hardly slept all night, but dragged myself out of bed when DH went out at 7.15 in the hope that I'll tire myself out today and sleep better tonight.

Well done to trib, and all other abstainers Smile.

Oh dear...NeitherShreddedNorSmug...perhaps you should stay off the booze then until you are properly in tune with UK time? At least then you can perhaps enjoy a drink with your DH?

Yes, gazza, I will. I only had water last night, and am staying off it until the weekend (maybe even longer).

Love your blog Imnotdrunk. I think we have similar drinking styles (ie, we just keep going!), and the repeating, oh yes, I even annoy myself repeating everything so much when drunk.

Still not boozing here. I like the sober me. I like the fun, more patient, less headachy me. Not sure what to do on Friday when I am off out for food and drinks. Perhaps dilute everything with soda water?

I like sober me too :)

Same here - in fact, I would have really struggled to have got through this week (lots of travel within the UK, jet lag, work, not enough sleep) if I'd been having my old few glasses a night. I'm tired, but at least that's all I have to deal with Smile.

I mentioned the thread to my friend who is also doing Dry Jan/Mostly-Dry Feb and she said the same thing: "I like mostly sober me more than I like the one who spent most of her weekends slightly hungover."

I had 2 glasses of wine with dinner with a friend and then switched to water. No headache tomorrow :)

Well I've had a few glasses this week but DW, after joining me in toasting departed friend last Friday, has not had another drop all week. I think her resolve is to drink moderately on Friday and Saturday night if the opportunity arises Wink!

Well done to everyone for moderation!

What are we going to give up for Lent then???

glitch · 07/02/2013 07:50

I don't think I have an awful lot left to give up. No way am I losing chocolate!! Grin

When does Lent start?

Report
gazzalw · 07/02/2013 09:32

Isn't it the day after Pancake Day (Tuesday coming)?

Maybe Lent came early for us this year?

twinklestar2 · 07/02/2013 12:49

Wow that's really early!

I think I'm happy with not getting drunk rather than giving up drinking altogether.

OH also doing well - he only had 5 pints whilst watching the football yesterday and then said he felt like crap this morning, so hopefully that's a deterrent!

Well I managed to dilute everything I drank so no excess alcohol for me this weekend. Woke feeling great on Sat.
I like the not getting drunk rather than knocking out drinking totally.
How was everyone else this.weekend?

Morning all!

I had a dry week from Sunday. 1 glass of white wine on Friday night, but afterwards I was wondering why I bothered. A couple of glasses of white and a couple of red last night over a longish dinner. Feeling a bit tired this morning, so suspect I overdid it. I didn't drink any water either .

No more drinking for me for a while.

Haven't drank a drop all weekend :D

Isn't it odd. Who knew not drinking was so appealing Grin
Did a big shop today and bought no wine!!! Even have a bottle sitting in the cupboard.
I just feel weird now Smile

I did fancy a drink today but realised I was reacting to a feeling of stress and habit and didn't really want the taste of wine.

Anyone else noticed there recycling bin is a lot emptier?!

Well done twinkle and glitch. Staying dry here too.

Valentines Day, a night out with a friend and dinner at a mates yest means a more booze consumed this week since beginning of year! Back to abstaining till night out on Friday.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 18/02/2013 00:32

Grin twinklestar2

I poured myself a glass of wine on Thursday, but didn't drink it. I stuck it in the fridge and had it on Friday night instead Smile.

In fact I had a couple on Friday (my last night with DH for a month), nothing since then and no plans to go out this week either. I'm doing a run early on Saturday morning, so that's Friday night taken care of.

How is everyone getting on? I have been drunk once since I last posted and I really didn't like it, I felt so sick!

Oh is completely off the booze for 3 months as advised by our fertility doctor.
