Catj's dd4

On Tuesday afternoon catj's dd4 was rushed to hospital after the hv (yes one did something useful!) wasn't happy about her colour and breathing. When they got to the local hospital they started tests and managed get hold of a cardiologist from Southampton General (luckily he was doing a clinic and hadn't quite left the car park!) He then confirmed that there was a heart condition and requested that they were transfered to Southampton (It has one of the best cardiac units in the country) they were finally transfered at about 2am!
On wednesday Seren was diagnosed with complex pulmonary Atresia. One of her valves has not opened and she has a hole in her heart. She may have to have a shunt put in but at the moment the doctors aren't rushing to do it. She is stable and has been taken off a ventilater but is on cpap. She even had a little protest tonight when she was given an oral drug and it doesn't taste very nice!
Catj is fine - she is a laid back person and doesn't see the point in getting stressed out as she know it doesn't do anyone any good!

threelittlebabies · 31/03/2006 23:38

Oh my goodness how worrying for her, hope she is on the mend soon. She is only very tiny isn't she? A few weeks old?

wabbitintheheadlamps · 01/04/2006 00:15

Best wishes to Catj and hope little Seren amazes everyone with the speed of her recovery if she has to have any treatment x

spidermama · 01/04/2006 00:18

OMG I was reading that with my heart in my throat.

Give her my best wishes. Good on the HV.

Cadmum · 01/04/2006 03:06

Thank you for the update. Catj is fortunate to have such a good friend.

It is good to know that Seren is in the best place possible and that she is feisty enough to protest about the meds.

I can't imagine how catj and her dh could avoid being stressed out even without three other girls to think ofa sick baby is a handful for even the most laid back parent.

chjlly · 01/04/2006 06:50

ThreeLittleBabies - she is 2 weeks old
Also we have been told that the condition is one that wouldn't have been detected at birth.
Thanks everyone for your messages. Catj is coming round later so I'm sure she will post on here with the latest!

Gosh what a shock. My thoughts are with the family, catj must be an amazingly laid back mum!

laundrylover · 01/04/2006 16:50

Catj, read this on my first visit to the post natal thread but thought it better to post on here. My heart goes out to you but it sounds like Seren is in the best possible hands. I can't imagine how you are coping as I know you have other kids too.
Keep us updated.
Best wishes
xx

Oh, sorry to hear this chjlly - I hope your dn is ok and how fab that catj is chilled about it!

catj · 01/04/2006 20:06

Quick update. Doctors are pleased with her progress and I even got to cuddle her today! She makes her feelings known very loudly when she does like what they are doing to her. Don't know the op will be as the pulmonary artery needs to grow a bit more.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/04/2006 20:47
