crikey !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 18/10/2012 10:54

am half reading a Hilary Mantel and an Elizabeth Taylor (after the recommendations of Alan bennett and Patrick Gale) but am not reading much at the mo. A resigned from bookgroup as I was very peed off with having to read dull crap.
gig glad leg is feeling a bit better. I managed yesterday evening pretty well- the meeting was mercifully short and it was so nice to see rels that I was swept along nicely.
Am feeling slightly queasy so have taken domperidone as a precaution and my hands aren't very good- they feel as if burned,or have been in hot water- am thinking maybe my fingers are a little swollen as wedding ring is leaving a mark (usually quite loose) Have sent a message to bcn to ask. meanwhile will look for the cream recommended by birdland
Love to all having stressful time - help yourself to the many lovely sweeties on the trolley- courtesy of cousins- Reese's P[eanut Butter pumpkins and eggs from California cousin and sweet shop sweeties from Chester cousin !

yay for sometimes !!! well done xxxx
We had our first dog when my brother was ill,so youngest brother was about 6- a collie cross- can't remember it being stressful, but it was so long ago ! Since then we had dogs all through growing up and I'd love one now,I long for a dog. I wouldn't have coped well with a puppy and a small baby though.

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 18/10/2012 11:14

Hands thing sounds awful, MAS Sad

I'll bet your fingers are swollen, it may be a good idea to leave the wedding ring off for a while until it settles. It's the steroids (I THINK demperidone is a steroid, but I may well be wrong). Anyway, chemo and the associated meds do make you swell up a bit - not visibly, but you can feel it a bit.

Which Hilary Mantel are you on? Some I like, some I don't - but I really, really LOVE 'A Place of Greater Safety'. Think I've read it three times now and I cry at the end every time Grin

Sometimesiwonder · 18/10/2012 11:15

Finger and wrist exercises might help to keep fluid moving a bit, if they are swollen through water retention?

Gigondas · 18/10/2012 11:28

Grin about new contract sometimes but sorry your hands so sore mas.

I like Hilary mantel too but afraid my reading stopped as brain on go slow at minute. Still spoke to nutrionist this morning so hopefully new eating plan will help.

You are just backing me up about dogs -it's been years since dh had one but we had dogs when I was growing up and I used to take care of them til relatively recently. Lovely though they are , you are effectively bringing another toddler (and one that doesn't grow up) into the home. And given the way mini gig is going (no baby should be that curious) that could be too much.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/10/2012 11:43

I think it's a skin thing- it's in the list of common side effects...hand and foot syndrome- bah !
The H Mantel I have is black something or other (about a medium haunted by dead people- it's good but once I stop I find it hard to pick up again) Am rerally quite tempted to read her 2nd one after Wolf Hall as it sounds v good- she was on Woman's Hour yesterday talking about it...

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 18/10/2012 11:45

It's true, Gig. And if you can't turn your back for a moment or two, in case one or other of the toddlers does something dire to the other one, it makes life really, really hard.

As I say, DD was 4 and very, very sensible and gentle with dogs. Likewise, the dog, while way too boisterous, was very trustworthy where dd was concerned. But with toddlers, things are very unpredictable, and I just felt constantly hamstrung.

Plus, outside of our home the dog was an absolute bloody menace Hmm

Sometimesiwonder · 18/10/2012 11:47

Bring Up the Bodies. What a shame, I just gave a copy of it away, you could have had it. It's very good.

The skin thing does sound horrid. Maybe it will settle down.

Gigondas · 18/10/2012 11:47

Shock at idea of what little gigs and a gig dog could get up to together Grin.

mas I have that new one waiting to read on my kindle.

topsyturner · 18/10/2012 12:06

We got *pig/dog when DD was 3 .
And to be honest we have never had any problems .
But then our DC were very firmly educated from an early age that you don't stick fingers in any animal orifices ! Grin
And that if they did then said animal was well within its rights to give a warning nip !
DD got snapped at a couple of times when pig/dog was a pup and soon learned .
I know non dog people will throw their hands up in horror at that , but we have still got all DDs fingers and toes attached Grin

Saying that , you are all correct in saying its like having a permanent toddler in the house .
Or in our case , pig/dog has seemed to morphed into a teenaged boy ... Grin

graciesmall09 · 18/10/2012 12:06

Hi to all. Great news about contract sometimes but sorry your hands are giving your problems mas. Dermol is very good for sensitive hands. You can use it as a soap substitute and also as a moisturiser.

Sorry I haven't been about much been struggling with a chesty/cold thing which was making me feel very sick. I do have antibiotics to take but I really wanted my body to fight it and at last I seem to be turning a corner. I'm over half way through rads and complete numpty that I am I haven't been moisturising under my breast as I thought they were just zapping where they removed the lump so skin a little broken but not too bad.

I am totally lost on this thread but will read back and hopefully catch up. Hugs to all those who need it.

gigs we have only had a dog for 3 years (my first dog) although DH always had dogs growing up. To be honest the first 18 months were a nightmare as our labrador is mad as a box of frogs and very highly strung. He was also a massive chewer. I wouldn't be without him now but it was VERY hard work.

topsy hope all ok with you. I haven't forgotten our coffee 'date' I just didn't want to spread my lurgy as that would be all you would need. I can't do next week as DD finishes school early every day damn school interviews and the next week all 3 of mine are off what about the next week?

NedSchneebly · 18/10/2012 12:38

Afternoon all Smile

MAS hand thing sounds very sore - poor you. Hope your BCN can advise a bit. Promise you'll text on Saturday if you don't fancy meeting up? Don't drag yourself out if you feel rotten, although cake might perk you up?! Good work on resigning from the book club - its much more fun to read stuff you want to read, than feeling forced to read dull stuff. Read more Patrick Gale, I say! I am quite enjoying Sophie MacKenzie stuff at the moment, which are actually written for teens, but are jolly good thrillers that are easy to read.

Sometimes thrice yay indeedy - well done you! You are clearly much in demand, and rightly so, I'm sure!

gracie sorry you're feeling lousy. Rads does that, I am afraid, even without chest infections on top. If the skin is broken get them to give you some Fucibet or Fucidin to put on, to minimise risk of infection. Keep moisurising all over. Take it easy, my love x x

JustFab how you doing love? Hope you're taking it easy? Well done for getting DCs to school x x

We got our dogs before DS came along, and they have always been very protective of him, and considering they are Jack Russells, which can be snappy, they have never ever snapped at him. They have squealed in protest occasionally - he went through a stage, aged 2ish, of chasing them and grabbing them a lot - but never beared teeth to him (which is more than can be said for my ILs smelly Cairns. . . ) They just run away and sit somewhere else if he gets too bumptious for them.

Cause for celebration in the House of Ned - it would appear that DS is well on the way to being dry at night, finally! I was beginning to get a bit stressed about it, and my Mum kept telling me to lift him, which I have strongly resisted, and he seems to be doing it naturally now. We've had 8 dry pullups in the last 10 days, so hopefully it will continue! We're away in half term, so I think I'll wait until we're back to dispense with them entirely, but quite chuffed!

Been to gym 2 days in a row- think it may have been a mistake - knees hurting quite a lot now!

Hope everyone OK - I do love you all very much x x x x

graciesmall09 · 18/10/2012 12:49

Waves to ned and super well done to littlened.

Sometimesiwonder · 18/10/2012 12:51

Thrice yay! as well for a dry ds, Ned Smile he is doing well. Where are you going for half term, my lovely? We're coming down to your neck of the woods, so it's very prudent of you to disappear or I would have to come and give you a snog Wink

And well done for the gym, too. Might impressed.

I'm not in demand, no. More frustrated. Potentially I have quite a lot on - but I'm waiting for all of it to come in. Today I have literally nothing to do and I'm very aware that it'll probably all land at once, and make me cry.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/10/2012 13:14

the prospect of ned and cake will lure me out on Saturday Grin
Poor gracie hop you feel much better soon xxx
And well done to little ned - yay !
There is some udder cream highly recommended for hand and foot syndrome - used by cancer patients...might get some !

I am fed up tbh. Don't feel well and have a headache now. Having hassles with my brand new car and just had words with the manager "we have given you X and K came in on his day off". How about you do what you are paid for and then you won't have to give me some fuel? Making out they are doing us a favour.

Gigondas · 18/10/2012 14:39

Car dealers - right up there with lawyers and estate agents as the devils workforce.

smee · 18/10/2012 16:13

Nipping in to see how Fab is. Hmm, fed up's not good and car hassle's last thing you need. Hmm

MAS, hand thing sounds grim. Hope BCN calls you back. Are you still managing to draw with hands like that?

Gig, glad to hear pain's less. Is your nutritionist an NHS person? I've never seen one but would love to. It was promised many moons ago, but never materialised.

Yay for littleNed. Is stressful all of that. Long may it continue. Smile

Gracie, hope you feel better soon. I'd bet it's all post chemo related. I seem to remember getting all sorts once I was through. Rest up.

Sometimes, hooray for you. Most impressive. I'll have some cava. Lovely ta. Grin

Right, sorry not to post to all. Got two boys desperate to use the computer and I did promise. Will drop in later if I can. xx

NedSchneebly · 18/10/2012 17:20

Ooh, sometimes do come and give'us a snog! We're only away to London town for a couple of days to see my brother, so DS can meet SIL-to-be's nephews, who are also being pages at DBs wedding. . . PM me what you're up to, if you fancy a meet up!

fab take it easy, OK? Car troubles not at all what you need right now Angry for you. Hope you can get it sorted soon x x

NedSchneebly · 18/10/2012 17:28

Bollocks, posted too soon. . .

smee hopefully some of what I sent you might be useful to you and DS. Hope it wasnt too overwhelming? Just glad to be of service.

gracie how are you feeling this afternoon?

MAS am sure that cake will revive you. I wanted to commission a new pic from you too, for DBs wedding, but can discuss on Saturday. You might not be taking on any new stuff at the moment. . .

Waves to everyone else x x

jchocchip · 18/10/2012 17:33

yay for littlened nice milestone.

feeling a bit achy today, so been self medicating with chocolate. Dd has made some chocolate biscuits so will throw some on the fbt. :) Was going for a beer tonight but that has morphed into coffee at friends. Will take other drinks as can't drink coffee in the evening.

peeing it down here now :( very soggy moggy keeps going in and out...

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/10/2012 17:40

try a peanut butter cup egg or pumpkin- they are ace !
Bcn suggested ringing the unit, but will wait and see if it gets worse- am hopeless at these things- can't bear to be seen as needy, which is daft. Ity's tolerable, but if drawing is tricky will definitely talk to them.
Have a nice time with pals jane
Waves to everyone Smile

KurriKurri · 18/10/2012 18:15

Hi all, - been out all day, so trying to catch up with all the posts - so sorry if I miss things out. I went to book club - everyone hated the book! Grin - but a new woman has joined the group and she seems very nice, with lots of interesting things to say, so that is good - we need a bit of new blood Smile

Then disaster struck - I went to lift my bag and something went in my back - ow ow ow - it feels like I've been completely winded and I can't take a big breath because it hurts. So am fed up - I've taken pain killers and plan to have hot bath soon. But I was meeting a friend for lunch, and then we go to art club, so I had to hobble through those things making groaning noises!

Sometimes - congratulations on contract - great news Smile Wine

MAS - do ring about the hands if they are bothering you, - I'm sure they can do something to help.

Ned - Yay for a dry little Ned - well done to him.

jchoc - maltesers and chocolate are the only effective medicine for bruises, make sure you have plenty Grin

My DS and his fiancee both loved Hunger Games too Birdland - I gave the trilogy to DS for his birthday earlier this year, - I'll have to borrow them from him.

Gig - I will be unhelpful and throw in my shout of 'get a dog' with everyone else's Grin

waving to Fab, Smee, topsy and gracie (sorry you are feeling sore - and rads are very tiring so will make you feel achy).
love to all.

DS has sent Dh some very nice chocs as a belated birthday present - so help yourselves

jchocchip · 18/10/2012 18:31

I could do with reading hunger games, went to see a film with my dcs and enjoyed it.

Hope your back feels better soon kk
gig don't get a dog yet. But think about what sort of dog would suit your family and make plans for the future. I don't think dogs and toddlers mix myself, but that is as a result of spending a couple of weeks on a children's ward :( I'm a cat person really so ignore me if you like. That said friend going to see tonight has an enormous dog who I am fond of!

I need to buy more maltesers :)

dh has made toad in the hole for tea, mmmmm.

graciesmall09 · 18/10/2012 19:17

Ouch kurri that doesn't sound good. Do you have any ibuprofen gel that you could rub on your back? Hope you get some relief soon.

jchoc hope your aches from your accident ease soon too.

ned feeling very tired this evening but I think this is due to the severe lack of sleep last night as we had torrential rain most of the night last night and our bedroom has a velux window. It was so loud.

DS1 is in the bad books. I have spoken before of his horrendous eating habits. Once he is back at school he packs his face full of rubbish all day even though I send him a packed lunch he sneaks his pocket money in and buys all the rubbish of the day. Needless to say he is severely constipated again and point blank refuses to take Movicol I may have told him to stop being a jessie and man up Blush. I am so cross at him I am ashamed to say I have told him unless he takes his medicine I don't want to hear he isn't feeling well.

justfab really sorry you are feeling rubbish. GAs do take a while to come out of your system. Take it easy.
