Morning all - strawberry and banana smoothies for the trolley

welcome to underpants - I'm sorry your aunt is poorly - what a worry for you all. As Gig said - they do sometimes say they think it is cancer before the biopsy (they did with me), - and MRI is part of the whole testing business, so not in itself a cause for alarm.
I don't know why they haven't done a biopsy, - maybe they want to get they images back first to see exactly where the tumour is. Maybe they just want to get her pain managed effectively and get her stable, before they do anything remotely invasive. Stick with us, it helps to talk about all this stuff I think - sometimes you have to put on a cheerful face for relatives, even though you are worried. Smile

Sweetest - sorry you are having a dip, - they do come - I still get them four years on, and you are still in early days relatively speaking. I think you cn only go with the flow, - know that you will have sad days, get through them and move on. It's a cliche - but it often is one day at a time as you try to get back to normal life. Or as amber very accurately calls it 'the new normal'.
Enjoy the triathlon - that will be great fun to watch I'm sure.

Oh - I got my copy of Prima - your article was very interesting, inspiring and well written (you talented woman) and I am beyond impressed with your marathon running. Good luck with the charity - I hope its a big success and reaches out to loads of similarly affected people Smile

gracie - can you take the phone off the hook? - or would your mum be very offended at that? Smile Hope you pick up a bit over the weekend and start feeling a bit better. have you got any good DVD's you can lie down and watch?

Gig - are they doing your chemo today? Good luck if they are, keep watching those Olympics, Is Jennifer Ennis starting her heptathlon today?

I'll help you eat that cake Sometimes - it sounds excellent, and I wouldn't want you to struggle to get through it on your own Grin

jane - enjoy your weekend and get some well earned relaxation xx

DH woke me up in the middle of the night to shout 'you've broken the scales' (I haven't - I'm not that fat!) then he said 'oh no I think it's a dream' and promptly went back to sleep. I lay awake for the next hour Hmm

It is housework day today chez Kurri - that's why I'm on the computer!

KurriotsOfFire · 03/08/2012 11:24

Sometimes - you'll find one of those giant slippers and a slanket is essential now you are 50 37 Grin ,

Sometimesiwonder · 03/08/2012 11:33

Way ahead of you, KK - have booked a regular slot near the checkout at the Damart shop.

Today is dd's Big Sharing - AKA the culmination of her week at acting school, darlings. We get to go and watch their efforts. Can't wait. KK - you were right it has been fab. All the kids seem lovely and uncomplicated and cheerful, and dd has been having a ball. She has loads of kids phone numbers and email addresses and texts are flying in at all hours. They have really all bonded and she has been getting exhausted, but in a good way. Now all we need to know is whether she has any actual ability Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/08/2012 11:49

Voted KK Wink
Welcome to new girls - am on holiday so a bit tricky to read all that's been going on but you're most welcome
Smile
Ned- it will feel v emotional after rads and the peely weeping burns not nice- can't think what my dressings were but they really helped. Love to all xxx

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/08/2012 11:50

Sometimes - hope dd's performance day goes well Grin

NedSchneebly · 03/08/2012 11:57

No-one wants to give me any dressings at all. . . Rads unit just said continue with the fucidin cream and go commando. I asked specifically about special burns dressings and was told that I didn't need them Hmm Think it might be a bit better under there today anyway, so hoping will improve.

DH got me a slanket last Christmas. I was a bit Hmm but it's luffly Blush I am only 36, so am concerned what that says about me. . . Or DH!

overthemill I am primary teacher and have not been at work since my diagnosis in January, on the advice of my GP. His point was that chemo makes you very vulnerable to infection. I felt completely lousy during chemo and I don't think I could have realsitically been able to be in school throughout. I think there were about 2 weeks out of 18 that I might have been fit to work. You cannot predict how you will feel, and I think that adds to the stressfulness of the whole thing.

Also, more so than any other job, I think, there is the added disruption, both to children (magnified with your SEN children) and other staff who have to cover, sometimes at the last minute if you ring in sick in the morning. I felt that it was actually more responsible for me NOT to be in school at all, as it meant that my year 6s would have consistency and the school will know exactly where they are. I have just finished 7 months Of treatment and i am shattered. I am not going back to work until January.

Obviously the issue of sick pay is more of a problem for you than it was for me.

Happy to answer any other questions you have.

KurriotsOfFire · 03/08/2012 11:59

Break a leg to your DD Sometimes - so glad she's enjoyed it, - I think it's a great thing for kids to do - teaches them so much that they can carry over into other areas of life. Smile

Thank you MAS - I fear that a speedy cyclist has shot ahead of me, and in true Brit style I will have to be content with a plucky silver or bronze Grin

KurriotsOfFire · 03/08/2012 12:03

Oops cross posted Ned, - I will admit to a slanket too, they are lovely, but my children do mock me when I wear it Grin (DH bought mine for me too - what are our husbands trying to tell us????)

Sometimesiwonder · 03/08/2012 12:41

Ned -am about to PM you, I have loads of dressings left whch you can have....

Sometimesiwonder · 03/08/2012 13:03

I don't know what a slanket is, but if it's all warm and cosy I am up for it!

KurriotsOfFire · 03/08/2012 13:53

It's a blanket with sleeves Sometimes ta da, - very cosy, but tricky to walk in without falling in a heap if you are a short arse challenged in the height department like me (and I know you are Grin)

here's Bruce Willis modelling one, proving beyond doubt that slankets are cool

Gigondas · 03/08/2012 14:00

He looks like he is in a strait jacket

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 03/08/2012 14:19

Oh I could go one of those (maybe in a child size)

NedSchneebly · 03/08/2012 14:58

Thanks sometimes you're a star Smile Much appreciated x x

Sometimesiwonder · 03/08/2012 15:55

Not a bother! Should arrive tomorrow. I appear to have forgotten to put in my note and to write a return address. It's not me being secret squirrel -i was being harrassed by the super chatty PO lady. Blush

Off to see dd emoting now, and we shall adjourn straight away afterwards for beer. My day is looking up Grin

Love to all xxx

Gigondas · 03/08/2012 16:32

Hope your dd does well sometimes

smee · 03/08/2012 17:04

See I go out for the day and now can't keep up, though am waving a quick hello to Underpants to say hi. I hope your Aunt gets some answers soon.

I had my Colocoscopy and apparently I have a perfect cervix , so no thickening due to Tamoxifen which is great. Not a clue still what's causing the pain though, so I have to have an ultrasound, as it might be ovarian cysts.

Will try and catch up later. I think I want a slanket. Smile

Gigondas · 03/08/2012 17:08

I am worried there is some oap fest going on conveniently forgets I own three onesies

OP posts:
Gigondas · 03/08/2012 17:10

And good it's not cervix but fingers crossed about cysts.

Am I allowed to lamp my Gp? Had the whole simpering I am so sorry tone of voice. This would be fine if I hadn't phoned to ask about contraceptive stuff Hmm . If any one is heading for an early grave if keeps that up, it isn't me...

OP posts:
smee · 03/08/2012 17:27

slankets can be sexy, Gigs. Am sure we can make them so.. !

I hate that patronising tone of voice. People thing they're being nice, but it always makes me want to punch them too. They always tilt their head to the side too. Not at all sure why.. How are you feeling??

overthemill · 03/08/2012 17:33

had a bad day today (apart from shopping which felt good), I felt very low, possibly the lowest so far. It feels very unfair to be inflicting this on my kids and dh who are all being such a strength (well, 13 yo did ry me muchly today but then she's 13). Felt sick, headachy and have a cold coming so maybe that's why. Dreading wednesday - i guess i just need to get on with it!

smee · 03/08/2012 17:50

Not surprised you're having bad days, overthemill. Let us distract or help if we can. At least here we all get how horrible it all is. And no need to be upbeat, we're here for every emotion. xx

Gigondas · 03/08/2012 18:14

Overthemill - I think we all have those days no matter what stage we are in (I have advanced soft tissue cancer). Have you been offered any Cbt as that can be mightily helpful to balance out (not cure) those days? I had one on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning so I know how it is.

Chemo is not nice , hair loss is nice but I promise you it Is manageable (I am typing as it goes in Grin). Have you a care nurse? They are fantastic IMe about explaining what to expect when in terms of side effects.

Also in terms of nausea etc there are loads of things to help If you ask so no need to suffer.

Lots of experience here and can hand hold you.

Sadly no words of wisdom on 13 year old girls Smile

OP posts:
Gigondas · 03/08/2012 18:16

And also ask about wig/scarf consult - i felt so much better when had my head round other things I can do.
Am assuming cold cap isn't an option on your chemo (it's not on mine).
