.....just wondering, y'know sometimes with a workoholic DH and 3 kids, you're driven to it!!

Eemie I disagree, having had treatment for alcoholism I think I am right in saying that anyone drinking over a certain amount of units per day is at serious risk of physical damage if they attempt to stop cold turkey, because there will be physical addiction there.

A person drinking over 50 units a week (a bottle of wine a night) is over the safe limit for stopping cold. The body has to adjust slowly to the changes going on, your body will have been compensating for the depressive action of the alcohol you are drinking and needs time to re-regulate blood pressure, temperature and heart rate.

I never had the shakes in the morning, but my consumption was such that I was advised to undergo withdrawal under medical supervision, for my own safety. I suggest if you think that "only people who get the shakes" are alcoholics, that you think again about your alcohol use. Addiction is not as cut and dried as that, and none of us can diagnose over the internet how a person is going to react when they stop drinking.

Have to agree with FrannyandZooey....

FrannyandZooey · 04/03/2006 15:21

Elibean we have to stop meeting like this Shock

Didn't know you were a fully paid up member of the old lushes club as well as a lentil weaver :)

Elibean · 04/03/2006 15:57

Lentil weaver? This isn't referring to a conversation we might have had 20 years ago when maybe I was in blackout?! No recall of lentil weaving...don't much like lentils, in fact, though DH wishes I did.

Old lush club though, oh yes....hmm, maybe now I know why I seem to agree with you so often, its getting embarrasing! Wink

FrannyandZooey · 04/03/2006 18:12

Lentil weavers are just hippy type people Elibean, I presumed from your advice on parenting you were probably a bit muesli and mung bean like me :)

Elibean · 04/03/2006 20:12

Blush ah...!

Yes, I suppose I am, certainly in parenting/life terms; sadly more inclined to toast and mashed potato on the diet front though...

How's the interior (re)designing coming along?

Sorry for the Old Lush Club hijack...Smile

FrannyandZooey · 04/03/2006 20:26

Ah yes, he has moved on today, his latest ambition is being a bin man. This involved throwing every object in the sitting room that was not nailed down into the cupboard of his toy kitchen, then sitting on top of it to drive it away. :)

I like threads that meander, was quite shocked the other day when someone said it annoyed them. Sorry to anyone who is such a person.

JanH · 04/03/2006 20:27

Who said that, F&Z???? I am shocked too. I love it when things go completely off topic!

FrannyandZooey · 04/03/2006 21:51

I can't remember, Jan, they were not moaning or getting at anyone, just said they didn't personally like it. I think fair enough if that's how they feel, but I am afraid I am going to be annoying them for some time to come because I can hardly ever keep on topic from one post to another Blush

Elibean · 04/03/2006 22:18

Bin man Grin
Tried making cakes with dd today, but the bit she really wanted to do was crack the eggs...oy.

I meander hopelessly after 9.30pm...

Quick question, when you stop drinking, does this in turn make your dp stop also, because they don't like drinking on their own, or do they say "go on have a glass with me". Then you are back to square one again.

My problem is that although I don't drink every evening, when I do drink too much I just can't shut up, I talk crap and end up past telling details of my private life. Then I remember it the next day and feel so guilty and ashamed for spilling my guts as I have to face them again in the playground or whereever. I dread it happening but get carried away.

What do you drink when you go to a dinner party if not alcolol, is it water all night?

FrannyandZooey · 06/03/2006 12:32

Well I drink water, lemonade, fruit juice, tea, etc. etc. etc. Once people get the hang of the fact you don't drink, they usually get some soft drinks in, and I have a really sweet friend who makes me lovely alcohol free cocktails.

But you just take a bottle of whatever you would like to drink - Shloer and things like that are good because then people see you have got a 'special' drink too and they don't pity you so much :)

FrannyandZooey · 06/03/2006 12:33

Ah and about the dp thing well that would be up to you and him. It's difficult, isn't it?

woowoo · 06/03/2006 12:50

It is difficult because I know how lovely it is to share a bottle of wine, especially over dinner. If only I could always just have a couple of drinks when we go out. Or maybe somebody could give me tips on how to just stop talking after a few too many!!

FrannyandZooey · 06/03/2006 12:52

"If only I could always just have a couple of drinks when we go out."

Yes well I can agree with that sentiment very heartily! :)

In pubs/restaurants, lime cordial with fizzy water is good and a bit more interesting than water...at home, I have discovered ginger & lemongrass cordial which is YUM.

FrannyandZooey · 06/03/2006 17:22

OMG Elibean I love that stuff, but they have stopped selling it near me! Where do you get it from?

Elibean · 07/03/2006 09:25

Sainsbury's. I love it, and dd (who wants to try everything that passes my lips, just as well I no longer indulge!) loves it too - though she takes a sip and says 'ouch, sting' Shock
I'd send you a bottle, but not sure it would travel too well...

ChampagneandNappies · 07/03/2006 15:00

I guess having spots floating in front of your eyes is a bad sign..........??
