New thread in honour if queen mas

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 21/06/2012 14:33

yes-I had mine taken by chemist (still dreadful) for passport -but it's marginally easier than photo booths.

Sometimesiwonder · 21/06/2012 14:34

Cross post

True, I could try that. The pharmacy is closer, too - good idea!

I think it's that unwillingess to make a fuss that helps old people get overlooked. Does your sister have any rottweiler tendencies?

smee · 21/06/2012 14:57

Can your sister drive your mum to A&E, Kurri? GP sounds a right idiot. Angry + shingles cream sounds grim. Is antihistamine any use? Might be worth a try - any one for Hayfever would do and lots are non drowsy.

Cool shades, MAS. Grin I'm still on cheapies from Primark. Might have to investigate SpecSavers.

Can't remember who asked, but sheep update: DS furious last night as he was a) still damp and b) still smelly and c) apparently traumatised (a stuffed sheep, really? Hmm). So I've had another go and used DS's fruity shampoo. Sheep now smells like a tangerine, still soggy, but doesn't look too traumatised. Grin

Sometimesiwonder · 21/06/2012 15:01

Sheep are v resilient, and tangerine scent is a definite improvement on soggy wool....

LimeJellyforBrains · 21/06/2012 15:08

KK, Smee has a good idea re A&E methinks. Am also Angry re your mum's GP. What on earth is he (not) thinking?

Smee - hilarious re sheep and what we mums end up doing for our offspring sometimes! A friend of mine at college had a bit of smelly cloth she had had since a baby. It was very important that it didn't get washed and lose its special smell - ewww!

Sometimes - I used to get DC photos done at a chemist too, had forgotten. Definitely worth a try if you have that available near you - we no longer have, only booth which spends half its life out of order.

smee · 21/06/2012 15:11

Sometimes, our local Snappy Snaps does passport pics. The man behind the counter does them, but keeps going until you're happy then prints only that. Might be worth taking her to one of those.

Waving to Lime. How's your neck? Is it still aching?

Off to take two very splashy boys for a swim. Sheep sitting by open window to dry.. Grin

KurriKurri · 21/06/2012 15:19

Yes - a trip to a&e might be the answer - I will try to persuade her. Doctor says he thinks its bruising and muscle damage, but being her unable to bear weight worries me. And surely you send an old person for an x-ray just to make sure - their bones break so easily.

I might try antihistamines smee - hadn't thought of that - I've got some stuff with calamine in it - but its quite gooey and hard to put on because its near my eye. I've been using cold damp flannels to cool it down a bit. 2-4 weeks is the recovery time - although it can last longer, -but hopefully won't!
I honestly don't think my immune system has ever got back to optimum since I had my treatment - does anyone else feel they seem to get things more easily now?

Poor traumatised sheep -but at least he smells fruity now Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/06/2012 15:27

definitely try to persuade her to go to A&E - gp sounds totally inept.
Poor sheep- I don't think I ever tried washing any of T's many soft toys- dh used to wipe them down with a sponge to make them less grubby/smelly

topsyturner · 21/06/2012 15:33

Piriton kk , that's what you need !
And mum definitely sounds like she needs an X-ray .

NedSchneebly · 21/06/2012 16:57

Afternoon all - very rainy here again. Boo. . .

Rads planning fine. Only took about 45 minutes, bit of shifting and shuffling, and quite cold, but OK. Tattoos done - not a rose or dolphin in sight, just boring black! All set for 2nd July - first 2 days appointments already booked in.

KK another vote for antihistamine here - worth a try, I would say. Hope you can find some relief. Definitely A&E for your poor mum. GP sounds like a dick, IMO.

take it easy, if you can!

Grin @ sheep smee glad to hear he's a little more fragrant at least. Any chance of him getting over the trauma any time soon?!

MAS love the glasses! They're very very cool, and will look great! Hope T had a reasonable day at school and is feeling a bit better?

gracie how goes the chemo, my love? How you feeling? X x

gig what news with you this afternoon, brave lady? How's the sickness? Hope you doing OK. Thinking of you x x

topsy hope you had an appearance from the nurse today? That's very frustrating she missed you out yesterday. Hope you doing Ok x

Waves to baskets - have fun in th hotel! Take advantage of TV, hot bath, free toiletries etc Smile

SparkleRainbow · 21/06/2012 17:58

smee - Grin at traumatised fruity sheep!

MAS - love your glasses choice, mine are purple and I love them although I do look a bit school mam in them!

Baskets - we girls always need some colour! Good luck with choosing some you like.

Kurri - sorry you are still so uncomfortable, I would try the antihistamine too, can't hurt and might help. I think your mum's gp is Shock I would try a&e too, although pick a nice quiet time for your dsis to take her, in the morning after 9 seems to work!

Sometimes - I always use the photo shops etc to take the photos of the kids those booths just bring out the worst in everyone!

Topsy has your nurse come yet?

Lime - glad to hear I am not alone in not keeping up Grin

I took ds to the paed appt, she is ordering thorasic and lumber spine mri to check for any other as yet undx abnormalities....don't think there are any though. She also had nothing to other over ds's feet, so that it gp, physio, ortho surgeon, orthotist, paed, rheumatologist and poditrist who don't know what is happening....fills you with confidence doesn't it!

Gigondas · 21/06/2012 18:00

Piriton good but makes me sleepy. And your poor mum kk.

Glad rads done ok ned roll on the 2nd so you can get out of hospital mode.

graciehow are you?topsy did the nurse show?

Still doing ok with nausea etc but my shoulder/neck killing me (physio has now strapped it up so between that ,my steroids and Olympic ring tattoos surely some weightlifting team has room
For meWink).

Annoying stressy nurse - going on about stuff that actually is fine so am looking forward to getting home.

Topsy and Gracie have been enjoying this with me on fb [[

Am tempting my dc to eat with beans on toast....Heinz of course.....anyone else want some?

Gigondas · 21/06/2012 18:04

Oh god yes... I seem to have raging hunger

OP posts:
topsyturner · 21/06/2012 18:17

That's the steroids Gigs , you can eat a scabby horse on those babies !

Nurse came .
Took dressing off .
Half the new skin on wound came off with it .
Wound started bleeding , lots .
Cue nurse putting a temporary pressure pad on it and then she nipped off to the chemist to find some new , non sticky , dressings .
And now I'm back to dressings being changed every 2 days instead of every 4 .

One step forward , 2 steps back !
Will this bloody thing never heal ?

KurriKurri · 21/06/2012 18:23

sparkle - sorry you and DS have had another frustrating appointment - you are right it doesn't fill you with confidence.

DH is back from the GP, - he has antibiotics, and she's done blood tests for thyroid problems and glandular fever - so we'll shall see. She checked his weight and said she'll take it again next time to see if he's lost too much.

Have they appeared with your supper yet Gig?

Gigondas · 21/06/2012 18:33

Hope that goes some way to

Yes pie and baked potato which wasn't too bad. Nutritionist just rang me to say exactly that- steroids can send you artificially hungry so be careful.

Bloody wounds- I remember well how long mine took. You forget that when you go in about that ... Hope they clear up quickly. I know mine did seem to speed up so hope this won't aet back too much.

OP posts:
Gigondas · 21/06/2012 18:36

Helping kurri - ate rest of my first sentence

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 21/06/2012 18:43

Oh topsy - x-posted, what an absolute bugger of a nuisance for you, - and it sounds really painful when she took the dressing off too Shock

Gig - yes steroids will make you starving hungry - pie and baked potato sounds filling at least, hope they are giving you hearty puds, not those small bowls of jelly they seem to love handing out.

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/06/2012 19:32

argh topsy that is such a pain Sad
sparkle sorry to hear about appointment being unsatisfactory too
ned well done- T much recovered thank goodness.

OneInEight · 21/06/2012 20:42

Sympathies about hospital food Gig - where is Jamie Oliver when you need him - but glad the chemo is not making you feel to sick. Hope your released to normal food soon.

Ned - well done on rads planning. Think your going to be a bit ahead of me as I haven't got any appointments through yet. I was having doubts on whether I needed it having had a mx but I think the consultant has persuaded me its a good idea and hopefully it will be less of an ordeal than the chemo. At least it will be convenient for work -directly opposite my lab window.

Kurri - hope your winning on the shingles front. Your thread on chat gave me lots of chuckles. Thanks.

Topsy - what a pain about wound - hope they sort it out for you quickly.

Chocolate tastes good again so putting some on FBS trolley before I gobble the lot.

graciesmall09 · 21/06/2012 20:44

kurri I second, or third an A&E trip especially as she can't put her foot to the floor. She really needs it checked out (and a new GP by the sounds of it). Hope it is ok. Hopefully your GP will get your husband sorted out and feeling better.

aw topsy hope that wound heals up soon, take it easy.

sparkle sorry your appointment didn't go as you would like.

woo hoo self indulgent moment I am no half way through chemo. Nurse said I should be getting a call this week as they ae definitely going to give me a new picc before no. 5.

ned glad rads appointment went ok and you have pre-booked your first 2.

Off to bed as I have had 1 x Emend, & 2 Lorazapam orally and I have nozinam, ondanostron (sp), dexamethazone and Levomeproazanen so feeling a little tired but not sick. Grin

Gigondas · 21/06/2012 20:57

Oneineight- rads fatigue tended to stop about a day (or two days) after you had it or If you can sneak a nap in. The burn for me started at end and went on for about 10 days. Mine was in awkward spot and I also got thrush (which was worst). But Fatigue aside the burn was a bit like coping with wound management.

Baskets45 · 21/06/2012 21:04

Just to say, please, kurri, see if you can get your poor mum xrayed. And have you tried soda bic in warm water, or porridge oats/oatmeal solution? It can work wonders on itch. For your itch, i mean.

So sorry to read about Topsy's wound. How demoralising for you. And young spakle's trip to hosp a frustration. Gracie - sorry you need new line. Another frustration

I'm off to bed. Feeling very sick and tired - it goes with the liver disease, sadly. Trip to optician a bit of a washout, but I braved the eye test, then escaped without choosing specs. Next week I'll try again. I have my new prescription. Eyes in good health and not much changed, just dry eyes a very big problem. Part of autoimmune disease, alas. I love the look of your ones, mas. I see I am in price bracket below you, mas!!

Good night, all.
