this horrible coughing & fever fluey virus - someone please tell me it won't last forever..

I've had it since Tuesday now and am soooo fed up. I've still got a high temp and seem to either sweat buckets (sorry TMI) or freeze. Dh's got over it quickly and the kids just had an irritating cough.
I'm so fed up. It's also brough my asthma back and I feel like someone's sitting on my chest all night long.
Sorry, just needed to moan.

but I have had it for 2 weeks and it has been dreadful

I am pg though so I think that makes the congestion worse and I cant take anything.

finally I have no more sinus pain or earache but am deaf (!) and have tons of yukky snot. oh and horrible cough.

I'm really cheesed off. Had a flu jab and thought I'd be exempt from this sort of thing.

Must be bloomin' awful when you're pg, sorry Enid.

i've had it since sunday. still bunged up, and when i am bunged up i get a horrible smell in my nostrils. makes me feel sick. dd3 is still being sick, because of the junk on her chest.

Amelia has been ill now for 5 weeks! She got better went back to nursery for a few days and was off again. In fact we have all still got it.
Mine started weeks ago with just a terribly soar throat and such a headache I felt my head was going to burst.
I just haven't found anything that seems to ease it.

I am into my 3rd week of it and finally beginning to feel a bit better. The worst thing for me was the sinus pain and awful pains in my arms. I had a flu jab as well, by the way!

I had it for about a week but ds1 still has it and it's been about 2 weeks now. I think he's getting slightly better but he's a way off being back to normal.

It's the most bizarre bug I've ever seen!

I have managed to do supermarket today and dont have a fever but still look and feel shocking. I had last week off work and am going in on MOnday but then intend to take the rest of the week off - this will be the longest I have ever ever taken off sick

My dd still has it having come down with it lasy Monday evening. She seems to come and go with the temperature part though. She had a temperature Tuesday night, Wednesday night, Thursday morning (was really ill Thursday) and now again about lunchtime today. In between, her temperature is normal. She is not eating much at all. I know it doesn't matter if she doesn't eat, but it has been going on for 6 days now and I am worrying that if she doesn't eat soon, she will take weeks to recover and might get the next bug going.

Anyway, does her pattern of being on and off ill seem to fit anyone else's experience?

lonelymum, sounds like it is for me - I get periods of feeling ok and then shortly after feel like I can't possibly get out of bed, with a fever of 40.
I'd not really eaten anything since Tuesday - had some food today and it made such a difference. See if you can encourage her to have something.
How old is she?

I (luckily) only had a day when I felt my body was going to collapse - the hot cold shivery thing and the headache and massively swollen glands but around a week or so later I am still bringing up enough mucous to sink battleships.

I think most of the problem with the kids is that you can't get them to gob the stuff up so it sits around in their chest or they swallow it back into their tums and it makes them ill.

She is 5, coming up 6. Actually, the only good thing I can say is that Calpol seems to be really effective on her temperature as it brings it down straightaway. An hour ago she had a temp of 38.7 and hadn't moved from the sofa for hours, but now she has just eaten a sandwich and, more to the point, had 2 drinks, and has gone upstairs with ds2 who has got out his telescope and is spying into neighbours' houses!

The odd thing about this bug is the way it seems to fluctuate. Hope you are better soon BTW.

mine keeps mutating , and my dds actually ..she had the tummy pains for a few days then was o.k and went back to school for one day but i had to pick her up as shw then had a temp and awful headache with temp up and down for the next 3 days , same with me..it changes every few days and im feeling worn out depending trying to carry on as normal looking after my sick kids!!last night it decided to turn into a head cold and if i bend my head everything swishes around inside my ears and makes me feel giddy!!!

I had it in December, it lasted 3 weeks and I had 2 courses of antibiotics. Worst illness I've ever had.

my friend's kids had this. They were off school for a week and are still very weak. Their dad is a GP and says he never seen anything like this.

I really sympathise. I've just entered my 4th week and feel really down about it. It just seems to mutate and take on a different guise everytime I think I'm about to get over it. No solutions I'm afraid. The only thing that has given me any kind of relief is Vicks Vapo Rub from chest to nostrils .... not a good look.

My DH had a Friday off, then all the next week. He went back the next Monday, passed out in office Tuesday morning & GP told him he shouldn't have tried to go back as heartbeat erratic, temp etc

That was this week - he is now ok but still tires easily.

my ds age 5 has been poorly now 10 days, he keeps getting a temperature going hot & cold, off his food, & really tired, his cough is just starting to get better, it seems never ending.

woke up with a fever and sore throat feel proper rough and mouth full of ulsers , already had this blasted bug now its back. just me for now though

I've still got a temp of 40 today. Woke up feeling fine and thinking I was over it, and then it comes again. Nasty cough, too.

DS has had this kind of on and off for over two weeks now. He has only had a day off school as he has been basically ok in himself.. and until last night hadn't had a temperature for a few days.. now it's back and I'm having to alternate Brufen and Calpol to control it. His cough that he has had throughout is not that troublesome compared to those he is prone to. I think it's just his immune system working overtime to keep him as well as possible (hence the temps).

Poor little man is really under the weather today and we have lots of nice things planned for half term!!

My dd seems better today, eating more than she has been, although that is not saying much. But then, she is due a good day as yesterday wasn't brilliant: she fell asleep at 3:30 yesterday afternoon and that was basically her day over! If she is OK tomorrow, I will begin to feel she is on the mend.

Thought ds3 was going down with it this morning when he fell asleep before lunch, but he is his usual perky self now.
