I've had it since Tuesday now and am soooo fed up. I've still got a high temp and seem to either sweat buckets (sorry TMI) or freeze. Dh's got over it quickly and the kids just had an irritating cough.
I'm so fed up. It's also brough my asthma back and I feel like someone's sitting on my chest all night long.
Sorry, just needed to moan.

2 weeks in and ds1 has just said 'I think I'll go to school tomorrow mummy, I feel better now' - hmm, it's half term now!! We'll see anyway - he does seem more perky today but still not really eaten anything.

Lonelymum · 12/02/2006 16:24

GDG, has he been off school for 2 weeks? My dd was off all of last week except for Monday, bt if tomorrow was a school day, based on how she is now, I still don't think I would send her. It is shocking how long she has been ill for really. Even when they throw up, they usually only have a couple of days off.

GDG · 12/02/2006 16:31

No, he had one day off the week before last and then last week he had Thur and Fri off. Tbh, he wasn't that well the rest of the time but I gave him neurofen in the morning and sent him in. I asked the teacher how he was and she said he was fine in school and they'd ring me if there was a problem. By the time he got home he was exhausted though - not his usual self. He went downhill rapidly on Wed and when my dad came round it really struck him how different ds was and it was then I realised I should really keep him off.

It's just been very up and down though so hard to guage - he wakes up really hot etc but then perks up but then goes down again later. It's so weird! He's definitely been at his worst the last few days though.

Anyway, at least it's half term now so he can take this week to recover - we've not planned anything as my car is going in to be fixed so I am housebound anyway - we'll just chill, play games, watch DVDs.

Lonelymum · 12/02/2006 16:39

Oh, my dd has been worse than that then, but for less time. There hasn't been a day since Monday when I would have sent her to school or thought she should be there, although I know what you mean about them being up one minute and down the next. Dd, having spent all day seeming quite back to normal, and doing lots of arty stuff this afternoon, has just collapsed into bed and fallen asleep again.

IlanaK · 12/02/2006 17:07

My 4.5 year old has had this for 8 days now. Although he seems much better than before, he is still not right. He is still very tired and the furthest we have managed to go is to my mum's across the street. The slightest thing sets him off crying too. Diarrhea is still there as well. 20 month old seems to have come down with it today too so I am stuck at home for a least another week if not longer now.

Blossomhill · 12/02/2006 17:11

My ds, dh and dd had it for 2 weeks. All of them are still run down and coughing.

I am just so gald I haven't got it. I have had to keep things going.

Took ds to doctors and he just said it's a virus and you have to let it take it's course!

SleepyJess · 12/02/2006 17:52

Ds suddenly got quite poorly an hour or so ago! He woke from a nap (does not usually nap during day but woke 8 times during night which is a lot even for him) and was all jittery, shivery and upset... colour not right (mouth has bluish tinge when he gets very hot but this is usual for him.. ) Temp was 39.6 when I took it!! Got it down now with Brufen, a fan and stripped him to his vest. During this process he ate a plate of sausage and chips!! That child would eat if his head was hanging off!! He is playing happily now.

Bloody virus! We are supposed to be meeting FioFio and kids at a playcentre tomorrow! But maybe we still will be.. he may well be fine tomorrow.

Very odd this bug isn't it.. the way it comes and goes!

SleepyJess · 12/02/2006 17:53

Blossomhill I think its mainly a little tot's bug.. although older children and adults who are run down or otherwise poorly in any way are succeptible too..

GDG · 12/02/2006 18:31

OK, I take back what I said about ds1 being better. In the last hour he's gone all lethargic again and has gone to bed - I have just taken his temp and it's gone up again to 40.5

MORE nurofen - how long is this going to go on for - it's worrying me now as he's not eaten for a week (well, barely - a few grapes, a bit of apple and a few pieces of toast is about it) - and he is seriously losing weight. He is sooo skinny and boney - it's scaring me.

SleepyJess · 12/02/2006 18:34

Eeek 40.5 is quite high isn't it! How old is he CDG? Have you got a fan to put near him?

NomDePlume · 12/02/2006 18:41

I've had it for about 2 weeks, had a cold for about a week before that too. Grim

Lonelymum · 12/02/2006 19:51

Oh dear GDG, that is bad. Dd had a sleep for about 2 hours and then got woken up to see if she could eat tea. She has had a muffin and a chocolate crispy cake and some milk, so the eating is definitely picking up, but her temperature was a bit suspect - 37.4 - not high as such but higher than normal - so I have Calpoled her before bed.

Interestingly, GDG, you did not mention your other children. Are they OK? I can't believe it, but mine seem to be, and yet I know dd's bug spread like wildfire through her class. I wonder why they aren't getting it too? Not complaining though!

puddle · 12/02/2006 20:12

My ds went down with this on Friday and the last three days he's been the illest I have ever seen him - he's so rarely ill. He's been flaked out for the last three days, eaten nothing and very very hot. Like GDG's ds he did rally this afternoon for half and hour and I hoped he was on the emd but I've just had to carry him up to bed - he's so weak he can't get up the stairs.

He's been in my bed last night and firday and has been delirious - was so worried on Friday night I was on the phone to NHS direct at 2.00 in the morning and yesterday they told me to take him to the emrgency clinic just to check him out because his temp would not come down at all.

Am dreading tonight as I imagine he'll be really restless again.

bunny3 · 12/02/2006 20:36

Ds was sent home from school last Monday. He spent the rest of the week on the sofa watching tv, sleeping and sobbing. He was really low. Today he has asked for food but hasnt really eaten more than a few morsels. I am hoping he is on theroad to recovery after 1 week.

Mercy · 12/02/2006 20:45

Haven't read all this thread but...

dd has had this virus since last Wednesday/Thursday of last week. Two days ago she started eating properly but is still quite weak and going to bed early at her request. Still has a bad cough but soooo much better than 2/3 days ago. ds now has a streaming cold unrelated to what dd has ( I think).

It seems we may be looking at 2+ weeks in total for those badly affected.

spacecadet · 12/02/2006 20:50

i got this nearly 3 weeks ago and ive still got it, its much better but im deaf in one ear and have loads of catarrh now(tmi), but i was having night sweats, temp, pounding headache, agonising sinus pain, the works.

GDG · 12/02/2006 23:14

Hi again - LM, the other 2 are, so far, lurgy free! Ds2 felt a bit hot earlier, fell asleep on the sofa and didn't eat tea (no change there though!), but otherwise he seems OK. Ds3 his usually boisterous self!

I felt ill last week but fine now and dh, as usual, is lurgy free as well.

Like someone else said - it's so scarey to see ds1 like this - he is NEVER ill, hardly ever gets colds or anything so very strange. He is so weak it is scarey. The only thing stopping me from completely losing it is the fact that so many of us seem to be experiencing the same thing.

Thank the Lord for MN!

Aero · 12/02/2006 23:24

Has his fever come down gdg with nurofen? 40.5 is waaaay too high. Trust your instincts on this one. How long has he had a fever for? (Two weeks, even if it has been fluctuating during that time, is a long time to have a fever.

I know how worried I was when ds1 had his first bout of pneumonia and the (locum)GP refused to listen to me at first.

What are his symptoms apart from the fever? Are his front neck glands swollen at all? It may well, be this virus, but I wouldn't let it go on too much longer if you're not happy. I do realise you've had him checked earlier this week.

swedishmum · 13/02/2006 01:24

My dd was off from Thursday 2nd for a week but went back to school for the last 2 days of term. Now ill again with a headache and still horrible cough. She's the only one of my 4 to be really sick and the only one with a flu jab. We're all feeling rough anyway as my mum died a few days ago just as they were moving house. Feels like being on a hamster wheel right now.

Piffle · 13/02/2006 07:43

God... I've been up all night with a coughing (tons of coughinh) and very sad dd (3y)
I think she has started with it too....

SleepyJess · 13/02/2006 10:23

Miserable night here too.. and DS2's temperature is becoming hard to control even with alternating brufen and calpol and a fan on him! Have a doctors appointment for midday but he is too hot to get dressed and take out really. Must get his chest listened to tho as the cough have become a chest infection that might require antibiotics. My instincts say it's purely viral.. but you never know.

Really really need him better for the weekend.. we have various important festivities and stuff planned. Bl**dy virus.

geekgrrl · 13/02/2006 10:28

still got a high fever here - day 6 today and no bloody change.
Had to change my sodden t-shirt twice during the night. I'm so so so so so so fed up.
My parents are coming to stay on Friday and the house is a filthy tip.

hi
sorry you are all feeling so rotten. We are at last starting to see improvement. DD went to doctors last Wednesday as had what I assumed was this virus, it transpired she had a secondary infection and was given antibiotics, so if in any doubt I would say it's worth checking. GP said this probably started as the virus, which made me feel less guilty about waiting so long before seeing her!
Hope you feel better soon.

GDG · 13/02/2006 11:05

Aero - when I checked in on him later he was cool again. He is sleeping OK in the night. This morning he isn't hot - he's not great but he seems a little better to me. Not as 'floppy'. He's not eaten anything as yet though. I'm going to see if this is the start of the up now - if his temp is still spiking later I'm taking him back to docs tomorrow.

Aero · 13/02/2006 11:10

Fingers crossed he's on the mend GDG. Won't take him long to regain his weight once he's better.
