I've had it since Tuesday now and am soooo fed up. I've still got a high temp and seem to either sweat buckets (sorry TMI) or freeze. Dh's got over it quickly and the kids just had an irritating cough.
I'm so fed up. It's also brough my asthma back and I feel like someone's sitting on my chest all night long.
Sorry, just needed to moan.

DS having a better day (touchwood.. am not optimistic enough to think he is actually getting better yet!) DH took him out in his wheelchair to get a new part for his trainset and apparently he was very talkative and tried to trash the shop, from what he could reach in his wheelchair, which is a good sign!

I will try to put a pic of Alex with new train set ( bought partly with his own money, because he has been such a poorly boy and the kids always get money we can't afford spent on them when they are ill, lol!)

Brian and Willow.. commiserations..! This poxy bug is the worst thing of its type in years it seems!!

Oh no, SJ, poor little Alex (great name btw, my DS1's name!) And poor you, it is exhausting isn't it along with incredibly worrying. I do hope he is better soon and is your normal little Alex again.

Not good to hear others little people with it either. We need something to zap these bugs!

My two seem to have perked up a lot today, thank goodness. DS2 I think is pretty much better, in fact he is laughing his little socks off at the moment and DS3 is much better. Still quite tired and snotty with a cough, but has played loads today so a good sign I think.

DH seems ok. He is off to Finland tomorrow (work) so i am hoping and praying I don't get this as he won't be back til Friday!

GET BETTER SOON EVERYONE!!!!!

CarolinaMoon · 25/02/2006 18:55

Oh no SJ, how worrying . Glad your ds is improving though.

You are right about the secondary infection risk - ds had this virus for the best part of a week, seemed to be recovering and then got a raging temp again. I took him to the doctor yesterday and it turns out he's got a throat infection.

He's now on antibiotics for it and I'm rather glad I took him along yesterday - I was half-thinking I should just leave it because they can't do much for a virus...

brian2 · 26/02/2006 16:12

Can anyone tell me how long this virus seems to last for, we are on day five now and am getting a bit concerned about the amount of calpol and brufen ds is having (pretty much max dose every day so far) to keep his temp down. Also any tips on protecting a sore nose, despite using cotton wool and vaseline it is now extremely sore and red and ds is refusing to let us wipe it (he is only 8 1/2 months) so it is getting horribly crusty!
hope everyone else is doing ok.

fuzzywuzzy · 26/02/2006 16:17

I don't know, but dd1 has had the infernal thing for 10 days now, and although she seems more chirpy and has finally managed to eat a meal today, her temp is still higher than normal.......Am at my wits end as the virus is making dd1 the whingiest child ever.

SleepyJess · 26/02/2006 16:27

From bitter experience, if it is the actual bug then it will be at least two weeks.. although my DS1 and DD had a lesser form lasting a few days only.

It would seem that the younger they are or if they have an underlying condition/compromised immune system, the worst it hits them. And a major feature is that seems to be getting better. and then comes back (but this is all incorporated into the 2 - 3 weeks). The staff at both hospitals were saying all this a well. They have had lots of children in with it.

PS Alex on the mend (touch wood, God willing etc). Going to try sending him off to school tomorrow I think. He has certainly got his 'bugger' factor back although not the stamina to go with it yet!

Has anyone had a cough for the past 2 months ? I can't get rid of mine (triggered by mild flu then bad flu in the the same period).

I am beginning to think I should get a chest X-ray ? I spit up a bit of phlem too each time.

Any one had a cough this long ?

foxinsocks · 28/02/2006 09:51

just wondering how you all are?

is GDG's boy out of hospital?

having thought it couldn't get any worse, dd has now woken up this morning with a temp of 40.5C and a rash gggrrr poor thing had this fluey thing just before half term, had the vomiting bug in half term and now looks as white as a sheet - luckily she's alright in herself so hopefully, it's just another minor virus.

koolkat - dh had the phlegmy cough for almost a month after the flu bug

koolkat · 28/02/2006 14:39

fox - thanks. Mine has been going on for ever (I think over 2 months) which is why I am worried.

CaptainDippy · 01/03/2006 22:11

Still here. Still praying and still checking in from time-to-time SleepyJess!! Smile xxxx

CaptainDippy · 06/03/2006 22:42

What's the latest???

Mercy · 06/03/2006 23:09

Haven't looked at this for a while. Am [shock} it's still goiung on.

IME if a child still has a cough afer 2 weeks you should see a dr. FOr an adult deffo after 3/4 weeks.

dd had this flu bug (she's 4.10). It took 2 weeks for her to recover at home - so I thought. Back to school for a week and she looked like death warmed up; pale, tearful, thin etc. Following week we were on holiday so I've been building her up on milk, fruit and veg, fish, steak, potatoes and vitamin supplements. She seems a lot better but still a little bit tired and tearful.

This in one month later Shock

calebsmummy · 07/03/2006 08:44

Well, Caleb got better last week.....then went right back downhill at the weekend Sad We took him to the doctors yesterday and he now has a chest infection. He has antibiotics and is much brighter this morning, it's amazing how quickly the AB's kick in isn't it!

Just need to make sure the other 2 (and me) don't get it. DH just left for Germany til next Wednesday, I don't need anymore illness while he is away!!

Hope everyone else is improving.
