I know it is very scary to trust the doctors, but cancer treatment has come a very long way from the 1980's. I looked at some of my Dad's old books and they quoted some very persuasive statistics, but they are not correct. But even these alternative books did not advocate leaving the lump in place, they gave examples of women who had only agreed to have the lump removed and their experiences, some of them returning for further lumps to be removed. I was quite interested in the article this week that said that tailored treatments were on the way - bc not being one single disease but a group of distinct types of disease.
Personally I was wary of having the lumpectomy and not jumping straight to a mastectomy...
In the end I just had to trust that the doctors knew what they were doing.

Mum much better today, she has been drinking with a straw after I asked for one last night and maybe theat has helped. Quite lucid but couldn't remember R visiting on wednesday. Able to talk to him on the phone though and remember writing a letter to the paper last week and packing up a birthday present. Looks like she will be home Monday if she continues this way. Pity I've got to go back to work.

Been past the Westley Hotel today on way to get petrol with my brother. Looks like they have dropped the arms...

Mini eggs from Aldi on the trolley.

hanover I have to agree with what everyone has said about rejecting the recommended breast cancer treatments- tumours may well be a symptom of cancer but they grow and spread - to put it bluntly and meaning no disrespect as everyone should choose their own path - I think it's madness not to follow the conventional route- why not do that and also use the complementary stuff to ease the effects of the treatments and help the body to heal ?

Haven't seen mum today-I don't think she will go away overnight as she will feel too vulnerable- also I think she just feels totally miserable. Ds has gone over to visit.

Sorry to be harsh here , but if your friend is eschewing treatment by a surgeon and an oncologist then she will die .
If curing cancer was as simple as having an organic diet and eating some herbs , then no one would have cancer !

Cancer needs to be cut out and blasted with drugs . It's a bastard of a disease and it needs to be hit hard .

I am so sorry if you find my comments offensive Hanover . But if you really want to support your friend , then take those books off her before she gets too sick to be treated !

Goes to topsy cave hoping to offer her a swap of red wine for mini eggs or possibly one of the strange looking cupcakes big gig made.

Settled in to watch the voice

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/04/2012 19:52

well said topsy Perhaps suggest hanover's friend looks at this thread ? we are all here and alive because of treatment and hope to be for many more years. Some people have been made very ill by their treatments BUT they've got or are getting through it.

Science is realising that cancer is a semi-intelligent organism that acts as a parasite within people. It is highly capable of defending itself and very cunning about hiding. Making someone feel well is great, but it's not going to impress the cancer into dying off voluntarily, I'm afraid. Whilst modern treatments are far from perfect and are a s*d to live through, they do the job for a heck of a lot of people.

Gigondas · 21/04/2012 19:57

Oh no - remember what happened last week when dale came on....

topsyturner · 21/04/2012 19:59
