Ooh Sparkle I have a lovely Uncle and Aunt who live in upstate New York - Schenectady.

SparkleRainbow · 22/03/2012 18:00

We lived in Syracuse...well just outside, and it was wonderful. A short drive to the Finger Lakes, 4 hours or so to Niagara, 2 or so to Thousand Islands and border with Canada, and not that far to the Adirondacks. It was wonderful, the local park had a little catch and release fishing pond for kiddies, we had an annual pass to the local zoo/park, which we visited every week so ds could look at the penguins. We had an amazing time.

SparkleRainbow · 22/03/2012 18:06

We used to live here on Burt Lane

ahhh wonderful times

smee · 22/03/2012 18:47

I met a lot of students from Syracuse University yesterday Sparkle. Now there's a coincidence. How long did you live in the States for? Any tips for NYC welcomed. I doubt we'll have time for a trip upstate.

Hope your mum gets her house sorted soon. Very stressful moving.

LJ, are you celebrating your ultrasound results?? Smile

KurriKurri · 22/03/2012 19:29

Hello all.

Hooray for good check up and good scan for amber and LJ Smile

Autumn - very frustrating for you, can you book a phone call from the doctor tomorrow to have them explain your results? (don't know if your surgery do this, but at mine you ring early as if you wanted an emergency app. and asked for a phone call -and they phone back after morning surgery).
The waiting is awful, and scary and just generally shit in every way.

Smee - GrinGrin New York, Wow! - how incredibly exciting, you will have a fabulous time, I'm so pleased for you (not to mention jealous Grin), and your DS is the perfect age to be able to really enjoy the trip and take everything in.
You have to take a bazillion photos - we will expect to see pictures of you at famous landmarks when you return Grin - Oh and think of the shopping you can do!

I'm glad everyone had good birthday's yesterday, Smile at junior Lime holding his breath.

jane - a tardis cake sound v.impressive, and marbling inside - excellent.
Also impressive with mini topsy's recovery form her temporary indisposition Grin

I've been out all day - yoga, then art group. So waving at everyone, - off to make some supper Smile

I can't update on neighbours - I went out early and it was dark by the time I got back - also they've put a six foot fence up between the two gardens since about yesterday lunchtime - very frustrating - I have to go upstairs and look out of the window when I want to nose Grin

Figgyroll · 22/03/2012 19:43

Evening all. Yayy for everyone's great results. Lots of celebrating going on tonight I would imagine.

Smee, am dead jealous of your NY visit. We would love to do that - maybe later on in the year. How exciterating for you. Grin

I'm another Apprentice fan - really enjoyed last night's show.

Gig, hope those antibees have kicked in and you're feeling more comfortable.

MAS, saw your photos on FB of that gorgeous cake at Fortnums. Lucky you!!! What did you think of the exhibition?

Autumn, just wanted to say how much I agree with your post about just wanting to get a proper diagnosis so they can jolly well sort it out. So frustrating when things seem to take forever.

I read that report about aspirin and have started taking a 75mg one daily. It has a special coating to (hopefully) stop any gastric problems and I take it with a main meal. I'll keep an eye on side effects but the results seem very favourable and it's worth a go, in my opinion.

Topsy, any news re BC nurse?

KK, what are the neighbours up to?

It's been a lovely day - managed to get in the garden for a while. DS1 is a happy bunny. His school are due an Ofsted and he was observed today by his Head - he got a Good with Oustanding Features so he's chuffed. His confidence was waning due to a Satisfactory a couple of weeks ago but this was just the boost he needed. Grin

DH is still suffering from flu. Sad He saw the doctor on Wed and luckily doesn't have a chest infection, which I was sure he had. He's got a hacking cough, has aches and pains and is now getting ratty with it as he hates being out of action. This is his week's holiday too which is annoying him. He's meant to be walking in The Lakes next week but not sure if he'll make it now which means he's ever rattier. Poor man. Sad

Figrolls and custard creams on the FBS trolley. Smile

Figgyroll · 22/03/2012 19:44

x-posted KK. You need a periscope!!! Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/03/2012 19:45

I went on a Greyhound bus past Syracuse (and Saratoga- love the names) oh smee that is fab -lucky you and it'll be wonderful !!!!!! well done for seizing the day in a bold way.
LJ Bless your DS2 and hooray for clear ultrasound -yay ! and amber well done and hooray !!
Had a very lovely day at the Hockney with my dad and my friend- the queue was very long but we were chatting and it only took and hour and a quarter,or thereabouts. Exhibition is wonderful- some pictures are HUGE - really excellent, though a bit too crowded with pesky people getting in the way. Lovely pot of tea and a fab carrot cake at Fortnums- dad had the most delicious welsh rarebit and friend had scones with jam and cream.
autumn sorry I can't offer any advice , just sympathies about the waiting,it's really no fun Sad

thegreylady · 22/03/2012 19:48

Hi everyone-everything is gradually getting better.I managed to enjoy my birthday dinner on Tuesday and must be better because I have just finished a day and a half of child care! I am still coughing a lot but I can cope [just] as long as I get some sleep. The intertrigo has settled down a bit.
Here is an amusing little tale for you:
When I had horrid rads burn on my breast my GP recommended blowing a cold hairdryer on it.I borrowed one from dd and it was wonderful.So...
because the intertrigo felt like the rads burn I borrowed a hd from the lass next door[dd hasnt got hers now] and it was great.Dh bought the same model from Argos the same day!
But...the new one didnt blow cold [just a cold shot -which was more like luke warm].Rang manufacturers they said they no longer make them to blow cold.
Went to girl next door and offered to swap brand new hairdryer for her old one-she bit my hand off [ouch] and I now have a nice tit cooling blower-bliss :)

Figgyroll · 22/03/2012 20:09

Evening Greylady - so glad to hear you're on the mend. Your hairdryer story had me laughing out loud, DH thought I'd gone a bit mad. Smile. I bet neighbour couldn't believe her luck!!

Exhibition sounds amazing MAS. Shame there were so many people there though.

smee · 22/03/2012 20:20

Grin at greylady. The things we do, eh? Glad to hear you're on the mend.

Figgy, excellent news for your DS. Must be so stressful being a teacher and being observed so often. Hope your DH gets to go walking next week. Be a shame if he missed it.

MAS, Hockney and Fortnums sound like the perfect way to spend a sunny day. I will get to that exhibition somehow - want to take DS as well, as I'm sure he'd love it.

Kurri, please stop going out and having a life, we need regular neighbour updates. Grin

KurriKurri · 22/03/2012 20:32

Greylady - very enterprising hair dryer swapping by you, - bet your neighbour was chuffed too Grin I'm glad you're feeling a bit of improvement today.

Poor DH Figgy, I hope he recovers enough to go to the Lakes.
We had my hot curry again last night (because I'd made so much), so I made your chopped tomato and cucumber in yogurt recipe to go with it - very yummy, - I highly recommend it,and thanks for the tipSmile

MAS - I am so Envy,I bet the Hockney Exhibition was wonderful, I saw a programme on TV about it the other day - I was blown away by those huge landscapes, - they must have been amazing in real life.
I think Hockney is a truly great artist, I love his work, and he's such a wonderful talker about his art, -he's not at all pretentious, and totally demystifies everything. Great man.
Lucky you SmileSmile

KurriKurri · 22/03/2012 20:33

x-posts - sorry Smee - I am in all day tomorrow to make up for it Grin

jchocchip · 22/03/2012 20:47

Well done on the hairdryer swap greylady :) Smee! Well done you will have a fab time. I've neglected you all again today, sorry. Took Aunty out and pushed her round town in wheelchair. Had lunch in Morrisons (no Fortnums for us :( ) and both had our hair cut. She is so good at the transfer to the car, don't know why I had worried about it. Guess I just remember how hard it has been over the last 5 years or so lifting Mum into cars. Off for a beer now :) will put some peanuts on the fbs trolley soon.

jchocchip · 22/03/2012 20:52

I cleaned up the results of a burst ulcer that nearly killed my Mum after she had been on low dose asprin..... not nice. I don't take asprin anymore. Remember having it with hot ribena as a child, but they stopped its use in children before mine were born.

KurriKurri · 22/03/2012 21:04

Sounds like a nice day out with Aunty jane.

I've put a cute picture on my profile - look what my dog did with her cuddly toys Grin - at least someone in the house is organized!

LimeJellyforBrains · 22/03/2012 21:42

Aww Kurri that's so cute but also kind of weird? Found myself trying to figure out if it 'spelt out' something! Or maybe it's just me that's a bit weird.... Clever doggy anyhow! Smile

smee · 22/03/2012 22:59

Kurri, your dog's far more organised than me. Send her over, she can find my glasses. Grin

Jane, that's awful about your mum. Must have been scary. Glad she pulled through though.

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/03/2012 23:12

perhaps old lady dog has a bit of OCD kk ! Our family dog used to remove the bath plug and lay it on the top of the stairs whenever we went out leaving him behind.
jane scary story about your mum Shock Glad that Auntie is managing the transfers so well.
smee am sure ds will love the Hockney-there were severalsmall school parties- it's very appealing to children I think, the scale and the colours- fab !
Love your hair dryer story greylady and so glad you could enjoy your birthday.
Well done to ds figgy !!

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 22/03/2012 23:31

She may well do MAS, - DH moved one of the toys and she immediately picked it up and put it back in the right place, - she is a funny old thing Grin - love your dog putting the bath plug on the stairs - I wonder why he did that?

Smee - she's hopeless at finding glasses - I'm always losing mine - her talents only really extend to cuddly toys Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/03/2012 07:24

oh bless her kk

Our dog was a lovely boy,not the brightest button though.

OP posts:
jchocchip · 23/03/2012 08:40

:) at kk's dog's toys. Wish cat was a tidier, he is an agent of chaos jumping up onto my cupboard and knocking down things like earings...

Time for a Brew, then I must get ready for lunch with a retired friend who used to be my boss.

Gigondas · 23/03/2012 09:21

GrinGrinGrin at results

Autumn leukocytes are white blood cells and indicative of urinary or kidney infection I think.

Smee Envy re new York- and agree upstate new York is gorgeous.

Back off to docs shortly - do feel better than did but horrendous dodgy stomach (which is probably antibio) and wound feels pink/hot. This isn't new and they made no comment at rads fitting(in fact said how well it looked but they arent specialist). So in spirit of vigilance am going back as don't want anything to push rad schedule back.

My mold is a work of art- took several fittings to get my plastic pants perfectly fitted. And yes I can keep it. Bloke who made it was actually pleased I asked as clearly sees himself as an artist.

Also saw nutritionist yesterday who was lovely- got to keep a food Diary now.

Re aspirin I am going back on them- took them thru pregnancy (the coated ones) with no ill effects. If results are as good as seem , strikes me as a no brainer if you can live with taking them.

Loving the dog stories.

KurriKurri · 23/03/2012 10:13

Morning all Smile

Gig - sorry you are feeling yuk today, - one course of AB's gives me awful diarrhoea - so your must be really struggling after the various courses you've had - sympathies. If I've caught you before you go, its worth asking the GP about something for thrush as well - so that you don't get it (another S/e of long bouts of AB's)

jane - your cat collects frogs - that's organization! Grin

waving to MAS Smile
