DS1 has been to A&E today, he has had very high temps, and has been diagnosed with an inner ear infection...

I dont know if this is linked but it is cause him pain..

His testicles are red and very tender, I have just put a nappy on him for bed and my fingers just brushed them and he flinched and cried out that it hurt. They are very hot (his temp atm is 103) but extreamly tender. He said it doesnt hurt when he wees but hurts to sit, lie down and roll over,

whats causing the pain?? What can I do?? He has been having calpol to reduce temp but it doesnt seem to be helping ease the pain in his testicles.

Have to go sorry wine and lack of sllep are conspiring against me
Hoping you all get some sleep tonight

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 22/01/2006 00:33

The doctor from the out of hours service has just called and says he doesnt think it is mumps and that NHS direct irritate him

Has told me to get him to the childrens hospital.

I cant win!! Dh should be home soon so I will take him up.

Just hope I get to see a decent doctor when I get there. I have had 4 phone me now, they seem to be arguing between themselves!

One from Heartlands and one from the childrens...the doc from the childrens told me not to go to heartlands but to go there so I guess I am off into town!

I understand that the mumps component of MMR is known to be extremely ineffective btw.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 22/01/2006 00:34

Thanks Carl, Sleep Safe. Hopefully we can get together and take the kids out when hes recovered

Hi Tamba, I hope your DS1's feeling well again soon. I'm fairly sure I remember having mumps as a child and it isn't nice but I recovered fine, as most children do. I think I'd do the same as you and take him to A and E at this stage though, particularly if there's a chidlren's unit nearby.
Leave the doctors to their deliberations and take action if you're still worried for him

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 22/01/2006 13:02

Hello, we are home now, phew. Am totally exhausted!

He doesnt have mumps, he does have an ear infection etc but the swollen testicles is a seperate problem to that.

They said he has a boil just underneath the surface which has got infected causing the pain and swelling. Because it is infected there is a risk of poisening to the system, and so that is also contributing to him having a high temp and is also causing him to feel achey. Its so for him atm, he screams when anyone trys to touch him (anywhere) or move him - to give hugs or pick him up.

They are concerned about the infection getting into his blood as it can be quite serious, so he has some strong anti-bs, some cream and has been taking calpol and nurofen (the gave me a bottle at the hospital)

Hopefully this should sort it out, but we have to keep an eye on him and look out for bruises or marks under the skin as its an indicator of the infection getting into his blood or something. Im not entirely sure why im looking out for them but im checking every half hour.

He is at home now thankfully and is lying in bed. Hes very tired and groggy and im hoping he will go to sleep soon. I am tired but I am nervous to leave him as its important i look out for the bruising.

Thanks to you all for last night, I am very glad I went to the hospital.

I think DS will be fine but I can understand the hospital being cautious.

Anyhow, I am just rambling now as you do when you are tired and worried! So will stop typing and go and find something to eat! Am starving.

I got your text Carl but I still havent put credit in the phone - totally forgot! Thank you, and i hope DD feels better soon.

What a worrying time for you. It's awful when they're ill isn't it? Hope he's on the mend soon. Take care x.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 22/01/2006 18:31

bump for the lovely people that gave me advice last night

OP posts:
chapsmum · 22/01/2006 18:34

how are you doing tamba?

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 22/01/2006 18:49

Im tired but relieved that he is ok

(see my post further down)

My poor DH has gone to work (he works nights) but as he came home in the middle of last night, and then had ds2 til i got home and then let me sleep (bless him, if id been more awake id have told him to sleep instead) hes got no sleep at all today and has gone off to do a 14 hour shift tonight!!!

I am really lucky to have him, I just hope he doesnt fall asleep whilst driving or something (an hours drive both ways)

Jonathan is asleep atm, dosed up on painkillers. Hoping that he has a more restful night.

It was scary at the out of hours lpace last night though, cause dh came up about 3am to bring some stuff etc and I had to wait out side for him as I had his phone so he couldnt tell me when he was there and they have loads of locked gates etc. It was so dark and in the middle of night and there were way to many dodgy looking people around, so after scarying myself silly for 5 mins i remembered that there was a police station opposite so went to wait outside of there (doors were open and lights were on) felt much better then

chapsmum · 22/01/2006 18:57

Sounds as if you have had a really rough time, I hope that he's on the mend.
/The rash the hops are telling you aout is the same type of rash that menigitis gives (glass test)
THIS DOES NOT MEAN HES GOING TO GET MENIGITIS so don't panick, the rashes are the same. It is a sign of blood posining.
The bruising you are looking for will just be like normal brusing except without the injury.
Hope this advice helps. Admire you for keeping so calm and dealing with this so well
Glsd he's settled for you now, it's horrid when your on your on.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 22/01/2006 19:00

Thanks

I have been checking and he only has 'climbing over the stair gate' and 'rolling around the floor with Michael' bruises

His temp has been alot lower today, which is good although hes not eaten much.

OP posts:
chapsmum · 22/01/2006 19:09

Wouldn't worry about that sounds as if he's on the mend, he'll be stealin digestives out the biscuit tin in no time!!

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 22/01/2006 19:10

LOL, no chance, They are well out of his reach and well within mine
