OP posts:
Gigondas · 17/02/2012 20:01

Smee - my mum had quite bad scarring on her neck from op and acupuncture really helped. It is not obvious now and the slight droop she had where skin pulled has all but gone.

Ned- not doing too bad. Had lovely day at home with dh and girls and an old friend dropped by. I told her about dx and she was lovely- so normal and positive about it . It really did help me think maybe I can get through this and learn to live with new normal.

Am still feeling bit rough but lot more positive.

I am adding some ferraro rocher to FBs pile.

NedSchneebly · 17/02/2012 20:16

I have found so many of my friends have been really positive and "normal" and everyone seems to have a positive story to tell about someone they know who has come through this shitty journey safely. I have 2 friends who have really let me down and I have barely heard from them- both who I have known for over 10 years, one very local, one further afield, but I have decided not to let them get me down. The ball is in their courts now. . .

Glad that you had a nice day with DDs and have a treat planned for tomorrow. I reckon that's the way forward!

LimeJellyforBrains · 17/02/2012 21:45

Thank you all for the lovely welcome (back) Smile

Took the boys to my mum's and back today so knackered from all the driving, just reading through before bed.

Didn't want to post and run!

Gig I had Tramadol after an op once and felt really weird on it. Was really pleased to come off it, so would not be at all surprised if it's capable of making bad withdrawal symptoms. Some people love it and have no probs at all.

Smee glad your dad's op went well and hope he makes a good and steady recovery. Lots of love to you xx

I am registered on Facebook (just so I could have a nose around) but have an empty profile and don't really use it. How would I go about being able to see the Tamoxifen page on there? No way do I want to miss Topsy's photos! Grin

holstenlips · 17/02/2012 23:55

Quick hello to all from me, been poorly today, went to gp, have infection in surgery site, grr but at least have antib's now. Also gp really kind, and advised me to keep off work for time being.
Am going to get some counselling via hosp. See you all tomorrow!

Gigondas · 18/02/2012 07:54

Glad Gp helped and that is great about counselling. I don't think I could cope without my therapist (sounds like loony american actress) at the moment.

Just rang hospital as wound leaking bloody fluid- not much but enough to be worried.

And had lively night with dds (one has a cold and other just not settling for long) so not much doing here today (dh being a hero).

NedSchneebly · 18/02/2012 08:43

Poor gig that's a bit rubbish for you - hope hospital can get you sorted out, and nothing too serious.

holsten sorry about your infection - hope antibiotics kick in and get you sorted quick. Glad to hear you are going to get some counselling too- will be really helpful, I'm sure

lime I think you can just be invited to join Tamoxifen group on fb, but not sure how to do it Blush I'm sure that MAS will be along soon, and she'll be able to help - she linked me up a few weeks ago. Hope you are doing OK this morning- thinking of you x x

smee sorry, meant to say yestereday get well soon to your lovely dad, and hope that he's doing OK. Big hugs to you and your family x x x

What's on the fbs trolley this morning? Can probably get DH to rustle up a bacon sandwich while he is in the kitchen?!

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/02/2012 09:46

Oh bum, just deleted my post Sad I'm here-I will catch up with yesterday's posts when I get a proper chance to read, though noticed that LJ might want an invitation to tamoxifen on fb- LJ -you'll need to pm me your fb name.

Had a very lovely day yesterday- lots of walking- exhausted and straight to bed when we got home - hip very sore-ibuprofen taken, but I think I may need to return to GP to ask for a regular prescription of those jumbo sized ones -it seems to be the only thing on offer-what do you think ? I feel a bit pathetic about moaning, but the bumps on my index fingers depress me and they hurt too- I quite self conscious about them though I suspect I notice them more than others do.
We went to the David Shrigley exhibition at the Hayward then saw allthe buildings which ds loves (Shard,Gherkin etc) then to Spitalfields and back to Covent Garden where I bought pens and some nice smooth paper. Went to an amazing posh sweetie shop called Sugar Sin which has a lot of Scandinavian sweets (salty licorice etc). Lovely supper at Wahaca with 2 margaritas and then wandered back to Waterloo- love London at night.
Back later - hope everyone is ok and that topsy is having a ball.

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 18/02/2012 09:50

Hi Smee -they are back some time today. Not too early I hope. How sweet of your ds to phone you a lot - surprisingly dd has only phoned three times in 48 hours so I am guessing she is getting a lot of attention where she is.

How nice to be able to swim yourself, it does make it less of a chore to go. We often go on a Sunday morning, and we have races doing sitting down swimming (no idea what you actually call it, if there is a name, and I haven't made up a new stroke Blush ) which is quite a laugh.

I really, really recommend the few days of peace, if it can be arranged. I have even done some cleaning, which has stayed clean since, it is a revelation!

Sometimesiwonder · 18/02/2012 09:54

Aaagh! I didn't see this page - I have replied to smee at the end of the last page, without seeing all these!!!! Blush Hello all (holsten, so sorry about the infection Sad ) - back later, I need to do some of the work I should have done yesterday......... Have a nice day [waves and disappears up own backside]

topsyturner · 18/02/2012 10:03
Sometimesiwonder · 18/02/2012 10:27

Hello Topsy - good night? Grin Share the best bits - was the onesie involved?

Just heard - they'll be back in half an hour. Peace will be shattered, bags will be dumped where I'll trip over them, mayhem will ensue.

jchocchip · 18/02/2012 10:46

Waves. Just lost my post, phone playing up! I'm having a very lazy day so far...

Good you've started the antibees holsten, hope they kick in fast.

Topsy! Don't get dehydrated, make sure you are drinking plenty!

SparkleRainbow · 18/02/2012 10:57

Wow Topsy it is only 10 o'clock...have you been to bed or are you just getting in Grin I want to know about the onesie too!

Holsten, hope the AB start working very soon.

KurriKurri · 18/02/2012 11:06

Morning all,

Hope your mum was OK LJ and you're not too knackered, hope boys are fine too and have enjoyed half term Smile

Holsten - pain about the infection Sad - maybe that was making your back hurt too? - hope the AB's kick in quickly - very glad to here they've arranged counselling for you, - I had it and it really helped me Smile

Gig are hospital going to phone back? - hope they get something sorted for you, and that your DD's cold is better today.

MAS - sounds like a lovely day out - you certainly packed everything in Smile
Have cortisone injections ever been suggested for your hip? (no idea if they are remotely appropriate in your case, but they worked wonders on my painful hand)

topsy - we want all the gossip when you get back - no censoring Grin

I'm having a well earned Brew after wrangling the dog into a bath. She was not impressed, I sang her a smelly dog song - still not impressed Grin

enjoy your last few hours of 'me time' Sometimes Smile

NedSchneebly · 18/02/2012 11:45

DH had to give ridiculous dog a bath the other day, after she discovered some unidentifiable gross animal poo. . . . I think she was similarly unimpressed, kurri !

topsy hope you're having a lovely time with the girls - definite expectation of gossip and pictures here too!

MAS that jam-packed day makes me tired just reading about it! Hope you can have a more chilled out one today. sorry to hear your hands and hip are getting you down. Hie thee to a medic for big pills, I say.

sometimes don't work too hard!

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/02/2012 12:11

Grin @ dog bathing kk - mum was always hosing our dogs down after rolling in foix
holsten oh poor thing with infection,ow and hugs for a quick clearing up.
topsy hope you aren't too hung over !
Waves to smee and sometimes - with you returning offspring
Must get on...not too much on today, laundry and packing a picture to send, then later supper with friends- hope I don't fall asleep though.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 18/02/2012 12:11

foix ? fox, the poo or a dead fox

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 18/02/2012 13:13

Oh yes - unidentified animal poo - my dog is a fan too Grin

Poor DH has awful toothache - he's taken himself off to the drop-in centre, to see if there's anything they can give him. But he's been gone about 2 and a 1/2 hours now, - hope that hasn't all been sitting and waiting.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/02/2012 13:58

oh poor thing- toothache is horrible Sad hope he's back soon and sorted

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 18/02/2012 14:38

He is back - it's an abcess, so he has AB's and painkillers, and has gone off to bed.

smee · 18/02/2012 15:01

Abscess sounds grim, Kurri. Poor DH. Sad

Ned, poo rolling brought back dog memories. When I was little ours loved cow pancakes. Grin Hope you're keeping busy.

MAS your day in London sounds good. Much colder today and raining too, so you chose the right day. I'd ask GP for referral to rheumatologist. There's lots of different things they can do for arthritis and it's not great to take Ibuprofen long term.

Holsten, hope those antibiotics kick in soon.

Sometimes, they're back v.early. Did DH struggle or couldn't they wait to escape whoever they were staying with. Grin

Gig, hope the DDs are better tonight. So hard when they keep you up like that and you need your sleep even if your DH is being heroic. He does sound lovely btw. Smile

LJ, driving always makes me tired. I find it hard not to fall asleep at the wheel on motorways, so need to have the window open and sing loudly. Strangely DH prefers to do the driving. Can't imagine why. Grin How are your energy levels? Mine took ages to come back and I still have tired days. Mind you that might be do to hot flushes waking me several times a night. Hmm

Topsy, we will ban you from the fb trolley unless you tell us exactly what you've been up to. Grin

Waving to all others. Impossible to post to all. Hope weather's not as yuk where you are...

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/02/2012 15:08

poor dh Sad
smee the blood test ruled out rheumatics though- it seems to be an osteo thing-I do find it hard to make anything sound as though it's bad at the docs- not sure how to get around it- I need my mum or someone to speak up for me !! He is very nice though and have seen quite a lot of him with these little ops- I never feel I can talk about ailments while he's operating though-which would be a good time I suppose-instead we talked about his dog !

OP posts:
smee · 18/02/2012 15:23

Mmm, osteo's a bugger. Does heat help it?? A friend of mine uses a Tens Machine and swears by it. Might be worth a whirl?

KurriKurri · 18/02/2012 15:30

What about asking for a physio referral MAS? - do you think that could help? - heat definitely worth a try, or a cold pack even (but wrap anything up well so you don't burn/freeze your skin)

My mum phoned to tell me she's just had a phone bill which says she's made five international calls. She says she's only made 2 (to her brother in Australia), so not sure what's going on. I suspect a) mistake by BT (again) b) she's done 1471 and called back something that was an overseas call centre c) my awful nephew buggering about on the phone (strong possibility) Hmm

NedSchneebly · 18/02/2012 16:06

Would chocolate brownie hot chocolate help MAS ? Sorry to hear you're in pain. Definitely worth a proper chat with doc about it specifically, I would think, especially if you have found him helpful and supportive about other things.

Had potentially rather quiet afternoon smee DH and DS went out on boys mission, so got my electric guitar out and turned it right up and did some rock strumming! Felt good to be playing very loudly and very badly!! DH came back with top ups for my fbs box, so fizzy cola bottles and jelly beans all round??

kurri Hope you can help your mum sort out her phone bill. We could all pop round to see your awful nephew if you need us to. . .

gig what news? Have you heard back from hospital? Hope you're taking it easy? I will be round with some stiff rope to tie you to the sofa otherwise. . .

holsten hope ABs working their magic? And I will be round to yours with the rope too, if you're not resting!

jchocchip hope you're enjoying your lazy day? Put your feet up and have a Brew ?

Hi everyone else - sorry if I've missed anything important x x x x x
