poppysdog that all sounds really positive for you guys- nice one! Give big hugs to gigondas and feel free to hang out with us here as long as you like Smile

Thanks for positive thoughts- amber bleddy Nora, they put you through the mill! Good to know you, smee and others have come through the same process. I think the fear of the unknown is probably worse than the experience itself, and will feel better once started. Have spoken to chemo nurse, and can get bloods done at GPs end of next week, and first treatment is on Monday 20th February. Bring it on, I think. Have ordered 4 different scarves/ hats to try out styles before hair loss commences.

Fbs snack front- have just had very nice snack pot with dark choc buttons, dried cranberries and pecan nuts. Yum Smile

Hope everyone else OK this evening? big hugs and Wine all round x x

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/02/2012 22:20

mumofjust1 · 10/02/2012 23:15

Hi,

I'm in bed and so worried about tomorrow Sad

I have decided to go, and am now driving myself mad with what if's. My head is pounding and I feel sick. I have been googling far too much.

smee · 11/02/2012 00:21

Ooh, very late, but Poppysdog I'd logged in to hear if we'd heard anything. Thanks so much for posting and that's all sounding excellent. Smile Smile

mumofjust1, step away from the google and go to bed. Honestly google drives you insane. I am the expert..

Holstein is that new news on lymph nodes?? If so YEAY AND TRIPLE YEAY. Smile

MAS, I'd bet the card will arrive. Honestly don't worry. There's time yet, and it has been snowing so everything stops for that.

Bit tipsy and thawing out after a long walk home through the cold. Must go back to DH and sofa. Night all xx

jchocchip · 11/02/2012 06:21

Morning all time to get up and make Mum a vat of porridge. There will be Brew on the go too.

Heard yesterday that dh's grandmother (98) who was losing her swallowing reflex when we saw her in December, has had another fall and now cannot walk. She has altzheimers and I've a feeling that she won't be around much longer. I'm trying to persuade dh to go down and visit her.

OneInEight · 11/02/2012 06:47

Gigondas and Poppydog -great news. Hope you continue to recover well from the operation and can be soon home with your daughters.

Holsten - yippee for clear lymph nodes. Have they said anything more about any further treatment.

MumOfJust1 - I hope all goes well today. As others have said the waiting is really the worst bit. Will be keeping my fingers crossed you get good news today.

Jane - sorry to hear about your grandmother - hope you manage to get to visit her.

MAS - grrr for postal service. I had a spell of student assignments getting lost in the post last year - which we narrowed down to a certain post-box. So annoying.

Has anybody got any exciting weekend plans?

Gigondas · 11/02/2012 07:02

Managed to get net working (doubt it will last) but just checking in whilst eating a nice chocolate chip biscuit.
Thanks for all nice thoughts- as dh said, op went well but am a bit bruised/done in so resting here best place to be. So my weekend plans a bit limited .

Ned- big hugs and support for you as sounds like a big day. Was thinking of you yesterday.

Yay Holsten re nodes!!

Mumofone I hope you get some comfort today as I know it's worrying (I had breast issues caused by bf but well remember the worry and agree google is not your friend).

Will leave biscuits for fbs x

NedSchneebly · 11/02/2012 07:29

holsten great news about your nodes- that's awesome! I love a good clear node in the morning!

mumofjust1 (I am mum of 1 too!) I hope you are OK nd got some sleep. Definitely go today - its a no-brainer if you have the chance and can afford it etc. Like amber said, lots of lumps and bumps turn out to be nothing, so there's every chance you can be reassured. Thinking of you today and please keep us posted x x

gig and poppysdog hope you guys had a reasonable night? Thinking of you and your DDs massively at the moment x x thanks gig it was a pretty mega day for me - the sense of anticipation of how awful it might be is getting to me a bit, I think.

Am suggesting a Mumsnet escort for all of MAS future deliveries- would save on poor stressed MAS when she's worked so hard! Hope postie comes up trumps today x x

jchocchip sorry about DHs grandmother. Hope he can get to visit her soon.

Weekend plans- a soft play party with DS this afternoon for one of his schoolmates birthday, and possibly fossil hunting on Lyme Regis or Charmouth beach tomorrow. . . should be fun, if a little chilly!

amberlight · 11/02/2012 07:50

Mumofjust1, Google is almost totally out of date for breast cancer stuff. Most of the figures are based on research done on people 20 years ago before the modern treatments and regimes were even invented and before the wonderdrugs like herceptin existed (and when people didn't really even get radiotherapy very often in some areas). Take no notice of it. Your odds remain 99 out of 100 that all will be well. Let us know how it goes?

Gigondas, Poppysdog, holsten, hurrah!!! Brew ?

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/02/2012 09:10

fabulously fab news for holsten !! yay !
Gigondas -lovely to see you and hope your aren't too uncomfortable.
Thinking of mumofjust1 right now - hope everything goes well for you and that you did sleep a bit.
jane Sad for dh's grandma -this sounds very like Patience, though she still manages pureed foods
I love the idea of a MN escort with my work ! When my ocd was very bad the idea of posting my work was incredibly distressing as I had to check it so many times for actually being in the package, correctly addressed, then safely in the post office -truly it was agony. Now I manage to check a sensible amount of time and have learned to trust that it should be safe and get to the correct place- huh !

My brother and niece are coming up to watch rugby today with dad/maul ds-they're staying over at parents and me and dh are invited to a neighbour's party up our road,so we'll trot along to that.

holstenlips · 11/02/2012 09:48

Great to hear from you Gig, you are wonderwoman! Hope you're not too sore over the coming days. Take it easy. Rest. Eat. I'm turning into my mum!
Yes, I had a call from cns (macmillan nurse at hosp) yday evening. Nodes in groin clear. There found some spread in local area but excised it during op. Have to wait til all healed then go back in a few weeks to see oncsurgeon.
I'm relieved, I knew already that this cancer doesn't just go away, but if it had spread that would have been v scary.
My weekend plans involve alcohol, I'm taking DS out for cocktails/nice meal tonight.
Ned,I'm soo jealous I love Lyme/charmouth many happy hols down there. Wrap up warm tho. Wind chill!
Waving to all and thanks all for good wishes . Gingerbread men made by dd on fbs and, millionaires shortbreads which a friend brought me yum. X

smee · 11/02/2012 10:32

Gigondas, yeay for you. So hugely pleased it all went well and you've got some good news too. Rest up and you'll be home before you know it.

Mumofjust1, I know you're today. Am thinking of you. Hope scan shows nowt but normal lumpy breasts. Smile

Just posting quickly, but MAS card just arrived. It's fantastic. Such great colours. DS is going to adore it - I want to give it to him now, but will wait.. Smile

Better go. Back later

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/02/2012 11:13

oh phew smee !!! that's made me feel better !

OP posts:
mumofjust1 · 11/02/2012 11:20

Thanks all for thinking of me Smile

I've been up half the night and now feel sick with nerves Sad

I've got everything crossed, but just can't feel positive

Best wishes to all x

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/02/2012 12:00

what time is your appointment...?

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 11/02/2012 12:38

Hello all, - having computer probs, hence I may only be on spasmodically.

Gigondas and Poppydog (welcome by the way - lovely to have partners on here Smile) - great to hear from you. So pleased your surgery went well and they've managed to conserve a good amount of muscle for you. And brilliant that they've found no spread, - great news, and although its early days and you'll be feeling sore, groggy and exhausted, I really hope you guys can relax a bit now, take time to recover and enjoy your lovely little girls Smile - take care of yourselves, and Gig I hope you get home soon, when you're feeling a bit stronger (handy tip - whatever they offer in terms of pain relief, grab it and gobble it down! Grin)

Holsten, - way yay for you, clear lymph nodes, so relieved for you Smile - you've had a tense old wait and been through a hell of a lot - now you can concentrate on getting better, - any news on what is to come now in terms of treatment, or is surgery + monitoring the completion of it?

Welcome to Mumofjust1 - welcome and sorry you are going through the scary waiting period, - the fact that you have generally lumpy breast I would see as a positive, - hope everything goes well for you this after noon - we'll be thinking of you Smile

Ned - If its any comfort, I totally freaked out when I found I had to have chemo - 'chemo' has so many scary associations - but whoever said it's essentially a mop up job (Sometimes I think Smile) is right, and in fact you can come to appreciate the fact that they are throwing everything at you. I was grade three as well, with spread to nodes, - I had 2 surgeries, eight chemos, rads, herceptin and tamoxifen - Yes I rattle and glow in the dark Grin Grin - but it's doable, - step at a time yes? you'll get there, and you've done one big chunk (the surgery) so you are well on your way.

I am very Envy of your weekend plans - I think Is aid before that I grew up in Dorset, Charmouth and Lyme are two of my very favourite places, I love fossil hunting, - I hope you keep warm and get lots of exciting finds Smile

Is it topsy's girls trip this weekend? - hope she's having fun, showing off her new dress, and having a great laugh with the girls.

So sorry about your DH's grandmother jane Sad, (if you think there's anything I can tell you about my Dad's last few weeks that would help, feel free to PM, but I don't want to force info. onto you, - sorry I hope that doesn't sound tactless or unfeeling, I needed to know, but I know others don't.) best wishes to your family xx

waving to amber, Smee ,MAS and Sometimes and anyone I've missed.

Spent this morning having our car fixed by the AA, as it broke down then refused to have its lid opened Angry - felt like taking a big branch to it Basil Fawlty style! Grin

mumofjust1 · 11/02/2012 13:32

My apt was at 1pm. I have seen the specialist and had a physical examination. She has said that she can't see or feel anything of concern. With the indent she mentioned coopers ligaments.

I am waiting for the second part of my apt now, ultrasound and possible biopsy if anything untoward is seen.

Thanks again for thinking of me - will update as soon as I can

X

topsyturner · 11/02/2012 13:36

Afternoon All

Girls weekend is next weekend kk , Practiced drinking last night as it's been a while ! Grin

Thanks for posting and letting us know how Gig got on Poppydog . And Gig so glad to hear it all went as well as possible . Now let people look after you , and take all painkillers and fbs that are on offer !

Holsten that's such good news . I am thrilled for you !

Welcome mumofjust1 , sorry you find yourself here . Bit late in answering , but if you can afford it I would go for the private consultation too . Waiting is a complete bastard !
Make sure you let us know what they say ?

Ned chemo is not something any of us would choose to do . But it is managable . My Onc said that if I felt ill on chemo then she wasn't doing her job properly !
And she kept to her word too !

Jane sorry to hear of your Grandmother troubles . I sometimes think I might be lucky after all to not have parents or grandparents around to worry about . It must be so hard for you seeing them with these problems .

Visions of kk being carted off by the men in the white coats for Assaulting her car ... Grin

Plans for today ? Supermarket run I think . DCs complaining that the choice of breakfast cereals are not up to the usual standards .

Oh question time . Got a letter today saying that DS has been identified as needing a BCG innoculation . Does anyone know why ? I thought it was normally only if they or a parent were born abroad ?
Granny was born in Africa , but that was over 80 years ago !

KurriKurri · 11/02/2012 14:01

Oops -sorry topsy Grin
Did you get a dress in the end - I saw your other thread, and liked the snake patterned ones you were interested in - You'd look pretty foxy in one of those and some of your killer heels Smile

Regarding the BCG, - are all the kids in his class having one? they sometimes bring them back in if cases of TB have gone up in certain areas, or there's an increase in people from particular parts of the world coming into an area. - All I know is my DS had one (in about 1998/9) but by the time my DD was the same age (five years later), they'd stopped them. Maybe they've come in again.

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/02/2012 14:46

ds had a BCG a few days after he was born -I think this might be because we lived in W London and the area is full of immigrants/nr Heathrow. My niece got TB a couple of years ago -she had trvelled abroad a lot during university and afterwards and was taken ill in NZ. She had a huge lump on her side which they were worried might be a soft tissue sarcoma -eventually removed and found to be TB - was all very scary.

OP posts:
jchocchip · 11/02/2012 14:59

The bcg is a policy which varies between health authorities. ds was born in Kent then we moved to Yorkshire and the health visitor had kittens that he hadn't had it. By the time dds were born, policy had changed and they didn't have to have it as babies. I remember having a heaf test at school and most people had to have the vaccination at about 12 years old.

mumofjust1 · 11/02/2012 15:04

Home - ultrasound was clear, nothing to biopsy. It appears I just have a fat boob Grin

The ultrasound guy said he could feel the lumpiness, and after scanning, it was fatty tissue.

The consultant mentioned dominant granularity.

She said that she likes to examine twice, so I'm back there on Friday.

Thanks for all the advice, reassurance and good wishes

All the best to all of you Smile

Xx

KurriKurri · 11/02/2012 15:10

mumnofjust1 - that sounds like an excellent result - hooray for fat boobs Grin - and great that they are being thorough and taking a second look on Friday. Hope you are feeling a lot better now that you've got all that out of the way Smile
