Hi Fen- Lactulose can do this to you, My friend is a district nurse and a lot of her patients suffer from constipation issues ( for various reasons). She advised to get movicol and mix with orange juice with bits, well so far works for me. I have played about with the combination and 2 sachets daily seem to keep me regular have wind Blush but can deal with that. I take them in the morning and have now trained my bowel to go every morning just after I wake up, also try to eat more fibre prunes, veg, bran and porridge all do the trick. This adds bulk but you do need to drink plenty fluids xxx hope this helps xx My GP was happy to prescribe this and I will probs be on for foreseeable future but a small price to pay x

Likestoski- glad you are feeling well, but remeber not to overdo it xx
Wellcome AllOverit - similar probs pre op with the sex life but getting better now Grinxx

Meant to add the movicol needs mixed in a big glass half orange and half water xx then I drink another glass water x

fengirl1 · 17/03/2012 21:30

Panic over! Have realised (with investigation on fb) that I've actually got a bug (thought yesterday was a bit extreme!) Thanks for all the advice, can't take movicol/laxido as it makes me feel ill, have tried extra fibre as well. I think the only thing that will help is getting rid of the kink! (Incidentally found I have a big band of adhesion round my intestine when I saw the consultant - no-one ever mentioned it in all the years I've had trouble with my tum...) feeling v achy but at least I know why now. Ooooh - lucky ladies who have just had / are about to have their ops. Think I might break open a bottle of bubbly when I finally get my date! Ben10 - that's the lovely thing about this thread isn't it? There's always someone out there going through the same thing which helps me a lot. Happy Mother's Day to all mothers for tomorrow. X

I've been lurking here for the last few months and want to give all you previous posters a cyber hug for sharing your very personal stories and helping me emotionally and practically deal with my problem. This forum has been the best source of information I could find and has guided me through this traumatic time.

I was diagnosed with rectocele in November. It took a while to get to the point when I asked for help but once I did, unlike some of you, I have been treated very well and referred straight away to a consultant. I am in my 50's and the problems are a result of difficult births and now menopause. Nature is cruel to women!

I felt unclean, miserable, exhausted etc. On a practical level I did find the use of a pessary ring helpful in alleviating symptons enough to get me through my working day then just crawled onto the sofa for the evening. I can only imagine what it is like for those of you 'dragging yourselves around' with small children and babies, not to mention young husbands!

I saw the consultant within 2 weeks of referral in November and had my op last Wednesday to correct a large rectocele. I was told my uterus was of normal size but dropped a little so did not have a hysterectomy. There was evidence of a small cystele so I am aware this may go in due course. I was keen to go home on the Friday and although they said normally they'd keep me in an extra day they let me go - there was a bed shortage but this worked to my advantage as I'm much happier at home.

Before I went into hospital I had read about glycerine pessaries on this forum. They were my saviour as hadn't had a BM in hospital. I can't thank people enough for sharing these very practical tips on here. There was another lady who had had both front and back wall repairs and I directed her to this forum for information. She said how pleased she was to be able to speak to me as she didn't know anybody who'd had this and I was able to support her just a bit through the knowledge I'd built up through this forum and by hugely valuable support I'd received from a close friend who had the operation a year ago. The fact that you've all shared is very powerful and I just wanted to make a tiny contribution to thank each and every one of you who have shared your journey. My first op got cancelled due to an emergency and I ended up with a different consultant but think I was very lucky indeed because they specialise in pelvic floor repair. When I met him just before the op I did ask him how good he was at darning old socks.

I'm sore now but hopeful I will make a full recovery and if I need another op, then so be it ..... I'll do what we have all probably done ..... cry, read the forum, dig deep and get on with it!!!!!!!! Big hugs to all xx

I don't think you're weird at all Footle - it's lovely to get an idea of how things may go in the weeks and months post-op. I would never have thought about scat tissue if it wasn't for you ( and I'm having front, back and top done so it's something I will definitely ask about and keep an eye on). Please stay! Smile

Can anyone hold my hand a bit and offer some advice? Biopsy was a week ago tomorrow - no results and no word yet on when the scan is.... I can't get my head around whether this is all delaying tactics (and possibly to 'punish ' me because I had the temerity to question the consultants secretary (how paranoid am I??)) or whether I really do have something to worry about. Still v puzzled as to why I now need the scan. WWYD in my shoes? The waiting is too much on top of feeling grotty most of the time. SadSad

Ben10HasFinallyLeftTheBuilding · 19/03/2012 19:26

Sorry can't offer any advice but I wouldn't have thought that it would be delaying tactics. More just poor admin or backlogs....

Had my pre-op assessment and the nurse thinks that due to my relatively recent lung surgery, a spinal plus sedation will be the way that the anaesthetist will want to go. While I know this is the sensible option, it fills me with dread that I might hear them doing the surgery like I could hear them doing my chest drain and the metal scraping along my rib (still having flashbacks 6 months later). I have been advised that I won't hear anything and if I do I won't remember. I will trust what the medics say. I know they are looking after me. They did a chest x-ray today even though I am having "ladies surgery" just to make sure that everyone knows what they are dealing with.

My BP was sky high today. They had to keep trying and get me to do deep breathing exercises and relaxation. I know that hospital is scary for everyone but the last time I was admitted I was seriously ill and in ICU. Just need to get to Monday and get it over and done with. I warned them that my arms must not be left above my head (as the left one might go blue and drop off LOL) and they have to be careful with my arms when transferring me.

fengirl1 · 19/03/2012 19:35

Sorry you have been through the mill ben10. Could you ask for some Valium to help you chill out a bit? My daughter had it for her second kidney biopsy (first got no tissue despite 4 goes and they also went into an area that had not been anaesthetised) I insisted they give her something for the second and it really helped (although if there's a next time I shall ask for some too).
Have been thinking about my situation and wondering whether PALS might help..

Ben10HasFinallyLeftTheBuilding · 19/03/2012 19:39

Apparently I will be sedated so I won't be aware of what's going on. I'm already on a small dose of AD's for nerve pain so I don't really want to mess around with anything else as I'll probably go loopy :)

PALS would be helpful I'm sure. I think it normally is a week for results if NHS. PALS might be able to help push to find out what is going on. I forgot about them. That is one of the best things about still having private insurance. You are actually a name to the secretary rather than a file...

AllOverIt · 20/03/2012 12:41

Footle - I can't find that thread you referenced, can you do a linky?

Well still waiting for referral, not sure how long that'll take though so expecting 6 - 8 weeks or so.

Still madly doing pelvic floor, even if doc says it'll do little to help the prolapse. Can't hurt though I suppose.

It helps to read others' experiences and know that there is a way through all this....

wouldratherbeskiing · 20/03/2012 14:00

AllOverIt - when I was referred my GP just printed out a referral letter and I had to phone myself for an appointment or even book on the internet - very civilised. Had the choice of two local hospitals and was seen within 2 weeks. Then, once it was decided I needed an op I left it a few weeks and phoned to chase it up. I was told the consultant I'd seen had a long waiting list and could not give me a date with her but offered me one within a month with the lead consultant. I did get cancelled after being prepped and waiting all day and did end up with a third consultant but that is another story. So.... after that ramble my advice to you would be to chase if you feel you need to be seen quicker, there are often cancellations and once you get through to the staff making appointments they can be very helpful. Good luck.

AllOverIt · 20/03/2012 14:08

Thanks wouldrather. I only saw her on Friday so I think it's early days, but it doesn't hurt to know that I can chase it up. Sounds like your Local Health Authority is quite civilised. I think mine is definitely more 'old school' Wink

mrsm22 · 20/03/2012 16:21

I'm new to this mumsnet site and am not sure if my problem is relevant on this discussion thread, but i think this is where i was directed by the link. I am at my wits end with worry and am continuously looking on the internet to try and sort of self-diagnose myself but am struggling. My baby is 12 weeks old tomorrow and my bladder problem only started about 4 weeks ago. I saw my gp 3 times who seemed to dismiss what i was saying and kept saying i had a water infection, despite antibiotics not working and the last time i saw her she gave me a thrush tablet, which clearly wasn't going to help.
I've been to see a uro gynacologist myself who only did an internal and said she couldn't see any prolapse but said it is my pelvic floor muscles that need work and she has suggested physio. My first physio session was last week but i'm confused because the physio seemed to think my pelvic muscles weren't that weak. The only symptom i have is that i have this constant feeling of needing to wee, but it's not like every ten mins. It's a feeling which doesn't go away, even when i have been to the loo. It's really getting me very down and miserable as my baby is so young and i can't take him out anywhere as i feel desperate for a wee when i'm on my feet and walking about. I can't see or feel anything hanging down, like i have heard can be the case with a prolapse. Does anyone have any experience of this or any idea what it can be? Can pelvic muscles really make you feel the permanent need to empty your bladder? I don't dare go out anywhere at the moment as i'm scared i might not be able to hold myself. I've been told by the gyno to hold myself for two hours which i can do but only if i sit in a chair and barely walk about. Any ideas?

wouldratherbeskiing · 20/03/2012 17:03

Footle I found this but am not sure how to post as a link so will need to copy and paste into address line - links to other bits are contained within this page: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/698136-anyone-had-posterior-repair-rectocele-repair/AllOnOnePage

mrsm22 - sorry can't be any help - hope someone comes along soon to help - big hug.

CAZ1958 · 20/03/2012 17:09

Hello Ladies...
Dear Fen & Jackie, thanks for your comments & caring. My feet hardly touched the ground over the weekend either so apologies for the delayed reply. The extreme tiredness is ridiculous,I could have just put my head on the steering wheel & slept, how the hell I got home I don't know !!! I just look at peeps in envy that can just walk around & get on with there day as normal even oap's !!!
Very happy with everything underneath but this is getting me down so much now & I am not sure how long I can keep going like this. Seriously thinking about the docs again.
Love to All of you

Caz - just a quick thought - did you have an epidural as maybe that has caused the back pain? If so, it would evetually clear up with anti-inflamatory drugs such as diclofenac?? As I say, just a thought!

I had bad back pain 12 weeks after surgery but that was due to stitches and has completely gone since they were removed surgically last month.
Hope you are feel better soon .xxxx

Good luck to those that have their ops next week (can't remember who, was it Fivehours on the 26th March??) x
