Good news jane , the end is in sight .

Hope your dad is feeking ok after his freezing mas .

Have been wrapped up in a snuggly blanky on the sofa all afternoon . Weather has been foul here all day . Have been eating M&S pistachio and almond cookies , yum .

How has everyone elses day been ?

DeeScent · 17/11/2011 18:18

Hi Topsy and everyone else. Smile

I've done a bit more Christmas shopping today and have now wrapped most of the pressies. Thought about sending a Christmas card to the lovely ladies at the Breast Screening Centre who did a fab job spotting the tumour in Sept. When I looked at my mammo I just was a picture of the Milky Way! They are so skilled at "seeing" stuff. Very kind ladies, too - would just like to say "thank you" to them really.

I've been re-reading the leaflet ready for the ct scan tmw. Am assuming it will be a relatively "easy" appt but then any appt seems to shake me up a bit. I think I have worked so hard at being positive (and tbh I do have a good prognosis) that I'm a bit in denial that actually this is going to follow me for the rest of my life in one way or another- check-ups, possible scares, imagined symptoms. I'll never really ever walk away from it.

Anyhoo, looking forward to a Chinese tonight. Grab your pleasures where ye may!

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/11/2011 19:30

try not to fret dee- everything is still very recent for you, you are bound to have all kinds of feelings. Hope it is all fine and dandy tomorrow.
FBS of the day (well, two really~) M&S giant chocolate raisins and chocolate refrigerator squares...yum.

OP posts:
Figgyroll · 17/11/2011 20:08

Dee, I totally relate to your comment "this is going to follow me for the rest of my life in one way or another.....I'll never really ever walk away from it." I thought almost the exact same thing the other day and it sort of hit me in the face, the realisation. Good luck for your scan tomorrow.

MAS, you always have delish FBS (and give me great ideas for when I go shopping Grin). Hope your dad's feeling okay after his freezer treatment.

Jane, yayyyy, only 4 more days - you're nearly there. Have a lovely time at the pub tonight. We usually collect sloes for sloe gin but haven't this year - just another thing we haven't had time for but.... watch this space for next year.

Topsy, your afternoon sounds just the ticket. I've been a busy bee today - a hectic morning at work, then lunch with dear friends. I got home and decided to do some baking but first I cleared out the baking shelves in my larder. Amongst other stuff that were past their 'use-by' dates I had bags of flour and dried fruit lurking at the back dating back to 2007. Blush I made a delish banana and date loaf (using in-date ingredients, I'll have you know) and it has met with approval from DH. I'm off to Lakeside tomorrow to get some 'proper' bras. Wish me luck, I may be some time.

DeeScent · 17/11/2011 20:19

Figgy -these thoughts do hit you in the face, don't they? And then you process it and try to move on with life, I guess. Good luck with the bra-hunting.

I guess a cancer dx is life-changing, even when you "survive". You're right MAS that it's early days - I think I am still in a post-op recovery bubble and normal life hasn't yet resumed because things I do mean driving semi-long distances that I can't get back to til after rads.

But it's lovely to hear everyone's chatter about what they get up to. Life does resemble normality for a lot of the time.

DeeScent · 17/11/2011 20:52

Wonders how Summat is getting on?

smee · 17/11/2011 21:03

Dee, I think it takes a while to even begin to know how you feel. I still have wobbly days and am 18 months on from diagnosis. Does get easier though. Hope tomorrow flies by. Am sure it will. Smile

I was wondering about Summat too - and there was someone else about a week ago. Shron? If you're eves dropping, hope you're both as okay as you can be.

MAS, is your dad in any pain? Seem to remember my dad saying he was fine, but that generation are so unrelentingly stoic it's hard to tell.

Heroic Smee braved the cold waters. Well okay, not so cold and it was just the local swimming bath. DS came out bouncing, declaring we should go every day as it's so much fun. Obviously I agreed. (not!).

Must go cook. Have only just noticed the time. No wonder my stomach's rumbling. Waving to all. Smile

DeeScent · 17/11/2011 21:13

You're right about the older generation being stoical; my Mum was diagnosed with a serious heart condition in the summer, then told us she'd had the symptoms for years, but hadn't liked to "make a fuss". Shock Thankfully she's on tablets that have sorted her out.

topsyturner · 17/11/2011 21:22

Evening

Hugs all round for all who are wibbling tonight .

dee CT scans are a piece of piss Grin
Unless it's for rads planning , you don't even have to bare yourself !
They strip you to the waist , but put a gown over the top .
I had another one this morning , lost count of the amount I have had !

Heroic smee indeed . Swimming on a day like this . I suppose you are going to tell me it was a lovely day weatherwise for you ? Grump , groan , mutter , mumble ...

Haven't had any dinner tonight either , am hungry now but don't know what to have . Want food , not fbs .

DeeScent · 17/11/2011 22:17

Yup, for rads planning, but glad it is a piece of...cake Grin

Hope you had a nice supper.

topsyturner · 17/11/2011 22:40

Aaah rads planning , well that involves them stripping you to the waist , providing you with a cape (that they never allow to cover you !) . And then parading every member of the rads department they can find , into the scan room to draw on your norks Grin

Piece of piss , honest ...

Supper was 1/2 an M&S pastrami and pickles sarnie that I had leftover from lunch . And more pistachio and almond cookies .
Balanced meal , non ?

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/11/2011 22:49

very balanced topsy !
Well done to smee for chilly swimming - glad ds loved it Grin
And good luck with bra shopping figgy- don't forget the fbs !
Dad is always stoic- he sounded very cheery in his email -will inspect it tomorrow.

jchocchip · 17/11/2011 23:02

Not sure I will have a lot of time tomorrow to go and buy gin. Took one pint of sloes to my gin loving friend, think I may put the rest in the freezer until get the gin. Just popped in to say night night. Dh has a early job tomorrow so I should be up earlier to catch train without running/ not eating breakfast...

Dee, I'm sure you will be ok at the rads planning. A bit of lying around with arm in an awkward position but soon done. Topsy must have been far more interesting than me 'cos I don't remember any parade.

Today they couldn't work out how to set up the boost though and I had to wait ages for someone to come over to explain it... Did a sodoko in solitary, sat in the changing room in my gown.

topsyturner · 18/11/2011 07:41

Morning All

Grin

Dark and wet here today . Got DS home today , some sort of teacher training day .

Going to a beer festival tonight with a friend , should be a laugh if I manage to remain upright !

DC have their tai jitsu gradings tomorrow , DD is panicking because she can't remember her choke holds (honest , this is a self defence sport ...)

What's on the agenda today for us all ?

amberlight · 18/11/2011 07:58

Ah, the agenda, you say?

1.Apologies

  1. Those present
  2. Minutes of the previous meeting
  3. Matters arising.
  4. Drunken Wild party involving gin-buying and choke holds.
  5. Any other business.

I may be exaggerating about (5) but one can live in hope.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/11/2011 08:00

morning topsy ! good luck with gradings and beer festival. Am drawing again today, might need to take a walk and will see my olds later.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/11/2011 08:01

OP posts:
jchocchip · 18/11/2011 08:17

Morning all. Dh went back to sleep when his alarm went off so I had to run for the train after all! On the bus going to rads, will be there soon, hope quicker today, need to get home and make caramel shortcake for guides cake stall at christmas fair.

topsyturner · 18/11/2011 08:38

Mmmmm caramel shortcake

Pondering what to have for breakfast today . Inspire me ladies .

Good luck at the hospital today jane
And mas , get off the computer and do some work Grin
Amber good minutes , am off to make sure I do number 5 thoroughly ...

jchocchip · 18/11/2011 08:59

Thanks Topsy. Just missed a bus but already on the next one. Just the train to link with now. Quick in and out today! Try and get some rest before the beer festival! Great agenda, Amber :)

Summatontoast · 18/11/2011 09:15

Morning everyone, just wanted to nip in and say hi again (nothing to do with the gin or caramel shortcake honest, well maybe a little :)) I have not been around much for last few days as trying to occupy my mind as much as poosible, Meadowhall yesterday and a lovely Thai restaurant which finally encouraged me to eat something again. The nearer Monday & meet with surgeon gets the more jittery I get. Hope everyone has a good day today, I know I am very new on here, but you are in my thoughts.
