Morning all. Lots of Brew on the go and just about to make obligatory Saturday morning sausage sarnies. [gein]
Amber, hope you have a nosebleed free day.
Jane, our dog sometimes ends up with two breakfasts.
Topsy, hope you woke up feeling refreshed. Try to have a quiet day today.
Have a relaxing day planned. Hope everyone else has a good one. Love to you all xx

DeeScent · 05/11/2011 10:02

topsy, Ikea - Saturday afternoon? Beyond madness. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/11/2011 10:59

sausage sandwiches sound delicious - I had branflakes with a garnish of crunchy nut cornflakes.
Flu jab done !

Ok , DH has but the scud on a Saturday afternoon visit to Ikea . So we get the great joy of B&Q and the petfood store instead ... sigh .

Can't get into my online banking this morning . Apparently they have a major fault and "are doing their best to rectify the situation"
I just want to see if I have any money Grin

Pass the brown sauce for my sausage sandwich please .

Phwoooooar MAS
< topsy fans self and has a little lie down >

But HOW MUCH ?????

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/11/2011 12:25

I know- Plumo is ridiculously expensive, but they are swoonsome

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 05/11/2011 12:43

Oh nice shoes MAS, I can only look at heels, can't wear them (or afford those ones Grin)

Confession time - I've never been to IKEA, - we don't have one anywhere near us, I yearn to go one day. B&Q we do have though Grin
We have an exciting trip to the launderette lined up, and while the washing is drying we will nip to the garden centre and ogle bulbs.

Having trouble with an e-bay sale atm, - someone bought quite an expensive item from us, we posted it 10 days ago (have proof of this) and she says it hasn't arrived and is sending angry e-mails. Not sure what to do, obviously we'll have to give her the money back, but I think she might be pulling a fast one Sad very annoying, we sold it to get a bit of cash for Christmas, - and now it looks like we've lost it Angry and she'll probably put a load of negative feeedback. Poo.

jchocchip · 05/11/2011 12:46

Hmmm. The new shoes I'm thinking of need to be practical for walking and cycling, how boring. I am going to Ilkley on Monday. When I worked there last there were nice shoe shops so maybe a bit of shopping there would be in order :)

KurriKurri · 05/11/2011 12:52

DH is getting me some knee boots for my birthday in Dec., but they will be a kind of one inch heel affair I've decided. Black or brown is the question ?????

I got some good walking boots in TKMaxx last year - they've had a lot of use, and still going strong.

topsyturner · 05/11/2011 13:18

kk as you have proof of postage you shouldn't have to refund the buyer . Did they pay through paypal ? They will be able to claim back via that .
And would the post office have to pay you for lost item as you have proof of postage ?

Apparently all banks that are subsiduaries of RBS are affected by a server failure . Will have to go see if the cashpoints are working , there are reports of debit cards not working too .
Sigh .

See you all later .

jchocchip · 05/11/2011 13:23

Banking system collapse! Think I'll try and get all my money out and put it under the mattress ;) In the old days we would have had enough cash or been able to write a cheque but loads of shops don't accept cheques these days:(

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/11/2011 14:21

oh kk that's rotten Sad - not sure what the procedure is though.

OP posts:
jchocchip · 05/11/2011 15:58

kk you have proof of postage and imo I think it was posted at the purchaser's risk. If they wanted it sent recorded delivery they should have said so and paid the extra. Hopefully it will turn up in the postal system, they can be really slow these days.

KurriKurri · 05/11/2011 16:13

Thanks for the encouraging words, I hope it turns up, if not the PO will only compensate us £40 and it's worth more than that. I think she needs to chase it up with the PO and check it hasn't been put in a shed or something.

Dad is a bit brighter today, he's looking at TV, and eating reasonably well (mostly soup and yogurt still) he can't walk though and they seem to think he'll be there a long time.

Mum says the staff at the hospital are treating her like a half wit because she's old - she asked what a drug was they were giving him, and was patted on the shoulder and told 'something that will stop him having strokes dear' - she has a science degree, and a big fat book of all the drugs because she likes to look it all up and check for S/Es etc. Grin

Plus she says he gets cold and no one checks on him - she gets there and he's freezing, but no one has felt his hands or feet and given him an extra blanket, or put a jumper on him. She says they'll give you blankets if you ask, but he can't ask Sad

Hope everyone has had a nice Saturday, - hope you are feeling better amber, and the nose bleed has stopped.

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/11/2011 16:42

grrr on your mum's behalf kk- that does make me very cross.

OP posts:
amberlight · 05/11/2011 17:24

KK, that's disgraceful, it really is Shock Whatever happened to basic nursing care? As a young adult I worked as a nursing assistant and no-one went hungry, thirsty, cold or dirty on my ward. Goodness me how difficult can it be to check basic things? And be polite to people and treat them with respect when they ask sensible questions.

Nosebleed-free day today, which is good, as posterior nosebleeds mean a stay in intensive care if they can't stop by themselves. But since it's done it a few times they'll have to do something dramatic next week which I'm not especially looking forward to.

Ooo, shoes!!!!!

topsyturner · 05/11/2011 18:09

These are the shoes I got the other day .

Can't find a link to the leopard print ones yet .

kk that's appalling about how your Dad is being treated , but sadly not uncommon . When my sisters sister in law was in hospital , they had to bring food in to her as they weren't being fed properly . Breakfast was 1 slice of plain bread (not toasted , no butter etc) . And on 2 or 3 of the mornings they came round with the bread and it was mouldy !
And my sister spent half her time feeding elderly strangers on the ward , as if they couldn't feed themselves , no one else bothered .

And that was in a major London teaching hospital .

Off to a friends house shortly . Just waiting for DH and the DC to get home from Mass .

Oh and look what I slipped and fell and bought today ...

(the bag , not the Paddington Bear hat !)

jchocchip · 05/11/2011 18:10

yay for nosebleed free day.
having jacket potatoes and sausages and baked beans for tea in honour of bonfire night. not wasting any of our wood on a bonfire, though toasting marshmallows on the fire in the living room. Massive bonfire in park behind us but we have bought catherine wheels and sparklers to have in back garden :)

topsyturner · 05/11/2011 18:11

Doh , the 2nd shoe link should have shown it in red . Just click on the red option and you will see them .

Figgyroll · 05/11/2011 19:19

Shoes are fab, Topsy - not too high for me, either. The bag is gorgeous too - reminds me of a Mary Poppins bag. I'd end up filling it up with so much toot that it would weigh a ton and I'd get a sore shoulder Grin

Brill about nose bleeds stopping, Amber.

Jane, bonfire tea sounds lovely. We used to do that when boys were little - and the sparklers but haven't been to or had a bonfire night for yonks. Poor dog has spent last few nights shaking and dribbling as he hears the fireworks going off. Poor thing. Sad

KK, so sorry to hear the staff at the hospital are lacking in the basic care skills. It's been very much in the news recently so you'd think they would pull their fingers out. It makes me furious to think of elderly and infirm patients having to fend for themselves. I hope your e-Bay problem gets sorted out. I think the safest thing is to send everything you sell "Signed for" (can't remember what that's called now) rather than just do "Proof of Posting". E-Bay used to have a good forum and everyone on there recommended "Signed for" because there were so many dodgy buyers out there.

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/11/2011 22:55

yes,Figgy's right- I send everything (pictures) registered, which is about £1.50 ish -so they're signed for.Special Delivery is a whole lot more expensive.
Shoes are fab topsy and the bag with it's bits (am glad about the hat)
We did end up with sausages but in a pasta dish with chorizo and dh's mystery ingredient which turned out to be fennel seeds. And a quince crumble

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/11/2011 22:55

am v glad to hear there was no nosebleeding too amber

Home again and in my pjs .
Spent the evening with friends , no fireworks though as they don't do Bonfire Night over here .

Our excitement is that MTV are holding their awards over here this weekend . I believe Lady GaGa was spotted in one of our city center shopping havens this afternoon .

In reality very few locals could get tickets , and those who did had to perform a Big Brother styley audition to get in .
So glad I am too old for this nonsense Grin

Got the munchies now after hearing about what mas had for dinner tonight .
We had a late lunch/early dinner of butchers lamb and mint sausages in baps with tobacco onions .
I could eat that again right now .
Think I might have some coco pops in the cupboard ...

topsyturner · 06/11/2011 08:47

Oooh , last post last night and first post of the morning Grin

Beautiful sunny day here , but freezing cold .
I am back to not sleeping again for some reason . Was up till gone 3.30 and then awake at 7am .

Grannys for lunch today and then maybe Ikea .
Or maybe not as my bank is still playing silly buggers . Payments that were meant to be in on Saturday aren't showing up yet .
Ah well , it will stop me spending !

What exciting things do you all have planned today ?
