smee, yes happy to report back when I find a good list online, plus books.

I think it works on the principle of having a diet that won't spike your system high in sugars which in turn seem to feed cancers.

It's also generally healthier - so you keep slim(mer) and have more energy (which I definitely need if I'm going to be doing exercise!) so win/win all round.

Figgyroll · 03/11/2011 18:00

It's interesting to read your thoughts about how we can try to control our cancer because, you might have noticed, for the last two weeks or so, there have been numerous articles in the papers and on the telly about the link between women drinking wine and BC diagnosis/recurrence. I don't like the taste of wine at the moment so have stopped drinking it but can't help thinking that, by not drinking it, it might be doing me some good. I wish I hated the taste of chocolate too. Sad As for exercise, I don't really do anything at the moment but would like to have a doctor's referrel to a gym once I feel stronger. I will look into that in a couple of weeks time.

SparkleRainbow · 03/11/2011 18:01

Cream doughnuts...chocolates.....no fair guys I hope you saved me some.

Dee fantastic news I am so pleased, may I offer you a Wine to celebrate virtual only I'm afraid...as none in the house!!!!

1in8 some better news today which is very good.

Smee Your ds and mine would get on sooo well!

SparkleRainbow · 03/11/2011 18:05

Can't remember who asked, but I had paracetamol and codiene for after op, I am allergic to aspirin and ibruprofen and all other NSAIDs, but codiene took care of it for me.

DeeScent · 03/11/2011 18:05

Thanks Sparkle.

Alcohol and smoking seem implicated in so many diseases - abstinence is a really easy way to reduce the risk of getting ill!

(Sorry I'm starting to sound like a public health announcement)

SparkleRainbow · 03/11/2011 18:08

Smoking affects my dh is so many ways, he takes a little pharmacy every morning, and half of them seem to be to help his body recover from the smoking! (Public health announcement away......I will however still have a glass of Wine if dh brings any home tonight!)

Hi everyone
It is interesting about the comments re alcohol. I have drunk alchohol for as long as I can remember and binged as a teenager, like most teenagers do.

Whilst I didnt drink excessively it was regularly.

At the beginning of the year I noticed every time I drank wine I was so ill the next day and this carried for a while, so much so I have now stopped drinking alcholol altogether.

I was also reading an article about alcohol causing dehydration, dry skin, bags under eyes etc - all symptons I had.

Despite my illness I now look a picture of health and a lot of people comment on it, I no longer have huge bags, my skin looks perfect and my I am fully hydrated.

I now wonder if this is because I no longer drink alcohol.

Driftwood999 · 03/11/2011 18:16

SparkleRainbow - re: painkillers, thanks for that, just planning ahead!

DeeScent · 03/11/2011 18:19

That's a good result, Stars!

I guess once you come through a serious illness it's a wake up call to have a healthier diet/lifestyle.

But while you're going through it I know treats are good medicine Smile

Iamseeingstars · 03/11/2011 18:24

Its still hard trying to eat a healthy diet though - I just dont want to eat. Full stop. All these messages of food, cakes, etc., just turn my stomach. Ive lost loads of weight (and do look better for it) but food is a huge huge battle.

I am turning the corner a bit though, doctor has given me some medication to stop me being sick and for stomach problems and this has helped me improve my food intake.

I do miss the wine though. Every so often I think Ill be ok but then suffer. I am also scared it will show up in my blood results because my liver amongst other things are tested every single week.

Its all systems go now, transplant is happening and having lots of final tests, check ups etc. Being closely monitored and seem to spend 3-4 days a week at hospital which will continue until I go in.

SparkleRainbow · 03/11/2011 18:25

I bet it is stars...., and well done for looking so good Grin

Drift - you are welcome, I would get some low strength paracodal (500gm/8gm) and some ibruprofen in, and then the hospital will probably send you home with some stronger paracodal type meds (500gms/35gms).

SparkleRainbow · 03/11/2011 18:26

I don't know how you are with GA, but it made me feel sick, and I wished I'd had something in to settle my stomach, but that may just be me Blush

Iamseeingstars · 03/11/2011 18:27

Sparke - what is NSAID?

Iamseeingstars · 03/11/2011 18:30

I had a gascoscopy and they found problems in my stomach which was probably the cause of my sickness and not wanting to eat because of the pain it caused. Medication is kicking in!

SparkleRainbow · 03/11/2011 18:31

Non Steroidal Anti-inflamatory Drugs, in other words all aspirin and ibruprofen types drugs.

SparkleRainbow · 03/11/2011 18:33

Sorry xposted stars and missed your message above.....how horrid to feel so dreadful, I hope the medication is starting to help.

Iamseeingstars · 03/11/2011 18:34

Thanks. Have also the same allergy but just quote ibuprofen and asparin. Hadnt heard of the official name

SparkleRainbow · 03/11/2011 18:35

I am going to have to sign off now, Dh has rung to say he is nearly home, and am going to try and keep him being positive, before he has to see "the executioner" tomorrow. Wish us luck....and see if you can come up with some inspirational money making ideas in case the worst happens tomorrow. Sad

SparkleRainbow · 03/11/2011 18:36

You must say to medics if it is all NSAIDs, as they will make you very poorly if someone gives you them in error. Nuff fretting, see you tomorrow!

jchocchip · 03/11/2011 18:40

cat64 thanks for the update, glad to hear the pain was not too bad and I hope you get your appointment soon. Monday/surgery cannot come soon enough for me, I already have the date to go back for results, 8 days later so focusing on that.
