have a few health threads going, it's been a long 2 weeks, I miss my kids so much it physically hurts :-(
The results from my lung biopsy come back tidal and with it a final diagnosis.
The front runner is neurosarcoidosis but the big c is yet to be ruled out.
So scared just want to press fast forward and get on with what ever it is. :-(

Sounds like they might do the biopsy soon so good luck with that!

Alouisee · 08/11/2011 07:38

Things are moving then LargeGlass - fingers, toes, legs and everything else crossed for you xx

magso · 08/11/2011 08:52

Sorry you are feeling so unwell. Hope all goes well.

When I was in hospital there were lots of leaflets explaining proceedures including open lung biopsy. They were not meant for the patients I dont think but it was the only imformation I got until preped and asked to sign! Are there leaflets there the nurses/ visiters could get for you - thats if information would help? I also accessed the British Lung foundation site when at home which is very helpful and explains test etc. Open biopsy is similar to brochoscopy (same bit of kit) but used to get at tissue not near air ways. It is usual to have a drain in for a couple of days. The docs were absolutley hopeless at communicating - but for me the not knowing was really difficult.

((gentle HUG))

Hope you are soon getting better!

Good to have a nice room - and offered cake! easier to sleep in a room on your own!

eaglewings · 08/11/2011 12:00

Lets hope the coffee, cake and ensuite is just the start of a better time for you. I was waiting over the weekend for your update having caught your thread on Friday.

LargeGlassofRed · 08/11/2011 20:46

Todays update, sat all day in my gown, surgical stockings and nill by mouth, but no room in theatre today unfortunately so have to repeat process tomorrow.
Thanks for all the message and support it means such alot,
Really missing the dc's and dp they feel along way away just so desperate to get home,

the surgeon said the full results will take 10 days to 2 weeks, he's going to try and do it key hole with 3, inch long cuts but may need to do it open, and then at least one drain in for a few days, the thought of that is making me more worried than the surgery!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 08/11/2011 21:02

Poor you...you are getting there though! Don't worry at all about the drain - I had one after an op and it was no problem at all.

(Until they come to take it out but that's over quickly I promise and doesnt actually hurt it just feels wierd!)

LilRedWG · 08/11/2011 21:04

I've been following but not posted before now. Just wanted to say that you are in my thoughts. Take care. x

oxcat1 · 08/11/2011 21:49

I've had 6 chest drains over the last 10 months, and then surgery around this time last year that involved the same 3-inch incisions for the camera etc, and then I had 2 drains. Please try not to worry. The inch-long incisions had dissolvable stitches and I didn't even know where they'd gone in until I looked in the mirror. Those scars are scarcely visible now.

The drains are fine - the worst bit is getting them in and of course that will be done while you're under anaesthetic! They'll probably put some local in around the site so it will still be numb around there when you wake up. The amount of pain varies enormously, but the ward will be well-used to patients with drains and should give you appropriate pain relief regularly for as long as you need it. It is a slightly odd sensation, and you'll move around pretty gingerly at first until you adjust to the drain, but the pain shouldn't be a problem as long as you keep speaking up and don't try to tough it out!

Thinking of you.

giraffesCantDookForApples · 09/11/2011 01:20

LargeGlassofRed · 10/11/2011 17:06

Hi all, had the op yesterday unfortunately they couldn't do the biopsy key hole so had to go for a ful open biopsy, had very rough night last night had a reaction to the paravertebral block so was only on low causing awful pain,
Have had a morphine pump and now on full whack of everything, so doped but comfortable,
Doctors came this morning but was pretty out of it with pain,
I asked if he could tell me anything yet, and said only that lungs diseased and that it could still be sarcoidosis, results should be back in a week.
Gulp.
Asked when I would be going home and he said he wasn't in the position to discuss that yet, and would just have to see how thing go.

sorry it's all so up in the air, and the medics are being uncommunicative. Hopefully they will let you home once you've recovered from the op.
