Hello all
I am resurrecting an old tradition of boosting general health by committing to doing at least 10 mins of exercise and aiming for 10 portions of Fruit and veg a day.
The old threads always had genius titles - a particular favourite being aaah Leek out, le leek, c'est chic"

Heres hoping
guys, you have got to check the portion charts linked earlier by Avi and me

sorry to be pedantic but that is what 10/10 meant, 10 full portions a day, if you want to get there you need to look at the chart here: www.nhs.uk/Livewell/5ADAY/Documents/Downloads/5ADAY_portion_guide.pdf
Off to check and print out, miss.

yes quite right young Olivia
start this thread blethering about water and whatnot
then tries to sneak extra portions past the Portion Monitor

you will be wishing you had never tipped me off about this thread, that's for sure Wink

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 13/10/2011 20:20

I'm back, having let this slip off my radar.the thread seems to have gathered momentum in my absence!
Have walked for 10 today. Also stairs a plenty on the way to the coffee shop at work

Veg so far:
Satsuma x 2
Apple
Pear
Banana
About to make tea with onion and tomatoes, will add some celery, mushrooms and courgette to boost my numbers!
Have we decided if mushrooms are in or out?

FourThousandHoles · 14/10/2011 13:53

I am at work today, the eating part of this is much easier at work because I can pack myself up a salad and a load of fruit and carrot sticks and so forth and graze all day. The exercise bit is much easier when I'm not at work. So most days I tend to do one or the other. I am completely rubbish although when I list a portion it is an actual portion

So yesterday
OJ
apple
vegetable crumble (2-3)
steamed veg (2)
was supposed to go for a run but didn't finish pissing about doing housework until gone 8 so didn't bother (sorry)

Today
OJ
apple
mixed salad (2)
carrot sticks (poss two portions, two medium carrots) with pea & wasabi dip
I will cram in three portions at tea time
and I WILL go for that ^^ run

I am failing with breakfast at the moment, which is how come I can eat an apple and two raw carrots in the middle of the mornign and then I'm starving for the rest of the day. I need to get up 15 mins earlier and eat porridge with fruit in

Babieseverywhere · 14/10/2011 23:58

One portion of berries...

FourThousandHoles · 15/10/2011 07:55

I didn't go for a run yesterday either

OliviaMumsnet · 15/10/2011 11:35

@FourThousandHoles

although when I list a portion it is an actual portion
Do you have a point? Grin

haha at oldies rudely ganging up on newies
this was secretly always about competitive fruit eating, but now it's out in the open

FrannyandZooey · 15/10/2011 12:29

i thought i did really well yesterday but it turned out to be 8.5 again when i counted
tbh i am eating a lot of shite along with the f+v, this should really change

OsmosisBanana · 18/10/2011 21:38

Whoop whoop! 10/10 lives! And F&Z has returned to her former format! Sadly for some I too have returned from my BSc endeavours. I shall however try and be less antagonistic. And rude. I said try......

With that in mind..........

20 mins uphill walking
10 mins running

2.5 leeks
1 head greens
handful edamame beans
handful peas
2 x massive tomatoes

I think that's a minimum of 8. Especially when you throw in the grape juice.....

I'm an actual Asscoiate Nutritionist now btw. Sick innum.

OsmosisBanana · 18/10/2011 21:43

Avi, Pink, Guad, F&Z, good to see you guys. Sorry to those I've been standardly ignorant towards.

I look forward to discussing the merits of various portion sizes and quantities of carbs n vits vs the merits of actual absorbance rates if you don't consume the necessary enzymes / fats to absorb them with all of you.

No I don't, that is clearly a lie.

I have however taken up netball. And an MSc in Nutrition. Somone up there fuckin hates me.

Babieseverywhere · 19/10/2011 21:43
 1. Berries (breakfast)
 2. Apple (snack)
 3. Banana (snack)
4 & 5. Big plate salad (lunch) 6 & 7. Vegetable & Beansprout Stir Fry 220g (tea)

Also loads of nuts, seeds and fruit tea which don't count...see I am getting the hang of things here ;)

Exercise wise I did C25K Week Five Run One for 31 minutes and it nearly finished me off.

OsmosisBanana · 20/10/2011 14:43

not a lot of goodness to report but I have an extremely irritating ill husband and a stats essay so junk will be consumed

however

1 apple
bag watercress (2?)
3 carrots planned for dinner
1 orange planned for dinner

So 7. I also normally have netball tonight but that's orf too. ARSE! I shall run tomorrow. Mebbe.

OliviaMumsnet · 21/10/2011 10:28

Cocoa is a vegetable isnt it?

Did go to the gym though

OP posts:
OsmosisBanana · 21/10/2011 19:14

4 carrots
1 orange
2 tomatoes
Olives

easily 10 given their size.

5k run and 5k row. Soon to be followed by 5min fight with DD and 5hour fight with DH.

FourThousandHoles · 28/10/2011 21:24

Oh dear, that didn't last long did it? :o

Been to the gym this evening

Hello OsmosisBanana :)

OsmosisBanana · 03/11/2011 20:31

Hey FTH, just you n me then?

1 x pear
2 x tomato
2 x leek
1 x head of greens
1 x soupy veg stuff = 1.5

7.5 Rubbish.

And no netball. Double rubbish.

SD's mother has rather helpfully booked her into swimming at 8pm on the weeknight we have her. This means I will not be able to play netball any more as both sets of practice coincide and DD will be in bed. FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!! *disclaimer alert..... This is actually DH's fault as he sanctioned it.... conveniently forgetting netball. Ah well, uni is getting a bit much for me atm so prob not a bad thing. Right? Sad

OliviaMumsnet · 24/11/2011 23:30
