Hello all
I am resurrecting an old tradition of boosting general health by committing to doing at least 10 mins of exercise and aiming for 10 portions of Fruit and veg a day.
The old threads always had genius titles - a particular favourite being aaah Leek out, le leek, c'est chic"

Heres hoping

  1. Raw carrot (snack)
  2. Apple (snack)
  3. Dried mixed fruits (snack)
  4. Small Salad (Lunch)
  5. Garden Peas (Tea)

That's it for today, looking forward to moving onto my Saturday night treats later...packet of crips, dark chocolate and strawberry cider, yum yum. :)

Guadalupe · 08/10/2011 18:47

Oh, I never actually looked at that portion document, I am sorry to say. I just roughly decide that a cherry tomato is not one for eg, and a handful is. Grin

Aw, the title list. I don't know if I made any of those up though! Anne of green gages seems very familiar though I think it might have 100x.

Terrible food day.

Crumpets
chocolate slab
salad
houmous
biscuits
ready salted crisps
apple juice
Moam chews

and going out for dinner.

Oops. I did walk a bit though.

Babieseverywhere · 08/10/2011 18:58

Mmm, crumpets. :)

Exercise wise I'm going to do 10 minutes of swings, cleans and attempt presses with my Kettlebell once the rugrats are in bed.

FourThousandHoles · 08/10/2011 20:02

I am full of snot and am snuggled up in me spotty pj's on the sofa. Can't believe the difference between last weekend and this, weather wise, last weekend we were basking on the beach and now its pissing down and freezing.
Apple
2 satsumas
Dried mango & pineapple ex graze box
Mixed salad (2)
Beetroot
Coleslaw

Will have some pineapple in a bit

So 8

Not bad really but no exercise other than child herding. Taking the dds swimming in the morning.

Lol @ BE and the eu salad mountain

Babieseverywhere · 08/10/2011 20:15

Gesh, this thread has a tough crowd ;)

Babieseverywhere · 08/10/2011 20:16

4000, Sorry to hear you have a cold. Wrap up and get well soon.

FrannyandZooey · 09/10/2011 07:21

I think Anne of Green Gages was Greeny, but if not it was 100
where's 100? would she be tempted to make a cameo appearance I wonder? She could swan in with a turban and cigarette holder

Tatties · 09/10/2011 09:24

The "Changing Chard" title, that was when we went to London wasn't it [nostalgia]

I will not hijack thread further but lovely to see you all :)

Guadalupe · 09/10/2011 09:48

Tatties That was fun wasn't it, I still remember how full I felt on the way home, endless pinwheels of perfect sandwiches and little iced delights. Yum.

Do you know, I only recently finished the lovely foot soak you sent me. It lasted AGES. [GRIN]

I have not 'spoken' to 100 for a v long time. I hope she is not stuck in her cupboard.

crumpets with marmite

I think I need blackcurrant flapjack in my life...

pinksomething · 09/10/2011 15:30

I had 2 portions of fruit in my Pimms last night! An apple and half a tin of peaches.

Today. Not so good!

good to see you!

Hi, pink. Bit cold for pimms isn't it?!

Avi - can you post flapjack recipe? Sound delicious. Is it a blackcurrant layer or all mixed in?

About to have toad in the hole and onion gravy. There is also kale and broccoli and then apple pie, and we walked miles earlier. Have some sloes too, I haven't made sloe gin for years.

Celery
Banana
Courgette
Carrot
Raisins

Do the seeds on my bagel count?
Blush at being OP and being so dismal at this.

mmm veg tagine sounds lush, do you have a recipe avi or shall I google? I may just google anyway, I do like a good google.

Yesterday was shit really, I felt like crap and only wanted to eat toast laden with butter, which I did a bit, but then had a word with myself and had two satsumas, carrots, leeks, broccoli and, erm, well that's about it really. Didn't go swimming as planned much to dd1's digust but I would have snotted all over the pool and they are grim enough as it is.

Today I am feeling better and have already troughed...
Mixed salad (2)
Coleslaw
Beetroot
Carrot sticks & frijolemole dip (mmmm yum)
Muller rice
Pineapple

I have some grapes for later when I have my mid afternoon slump

And there will be steamed veg at tea time, hopefully three portions. I'm trying to cut down on carbs in the evening so replace spuds/rice/etc with an extra portion of veg

I'm going to attempt week 4 run 1 of C25K this evening. I'm running on a treadmill at the gym, I listen to my own music and keep an eye on the time but I think I'll have to download an app or something because I am constantly glancing at the time and getting downhearted when I must have been running for at least two minutes but only thirty seconds has elapsed Hmm

We are mean aren't we BabiesEverywhere especially Head Girl Franny but we have your best interests at heart my lovely You do get the hang of cramming an extra portion in somehow (see above re replacing carbs with more veg for eg) and a smallish glass of orange juice once a day instantly adds a portion too.

Guadalupe · 10/10/2011 17:36

Thanks for that, avi, will definitley try those out.

Hope you feel better, 4000 feet. Snort some cider vinegar, that'll do the trick.

SuePurblybilt · 10/10/2011 17:43

Am joining Grin. I have been eating crap for a couple of weeks.

I have had veggie stew with pearl barley for lunch and dinner (courgettes, runners, hallots and green beans from garden, peppers, brocolli, cauli, spinach, carrots, peas, sweetcorn). Does that count? Failing sadly on the fruit and water, off to eat an apple and drink a pint of water.

I'm planning on not eating carby carbs after breakfast so will be replacing them with veg. Which is mega cheap at the Lidl this week btw - 500g of brocolli is about 60p, as is spinach, cauliflower and squash.

FreddieMercurysBolero · 10/10/2011 22:29

I will start tomorrow, I will. I am trying to convince myself that if I eat more veg and fruit, I will be one of those people who leap out of bed in the morning and bounce happily off to work. Today I had a mere handful of parsnip and carrot, due to hungoverness.

OliviaMumsnet · 10/10/2011 22:36

I had porridge for breakfast - it was a poncey indiv portioned one with apple and raisins but my god the portion was TITCHY so I had to have 5 biscuits in a meeting not 1.5 hours later
Apple
Banana
Salad (sweetcorn (which surely doesn't count as is cattlefeed?) cuc, lettuce, avo)

and then more courgette and carrot with supper
Do yoghurt covered raisins count??

I make that 9 but I reckon it's not proper portion sizes

Sad

FourThousandHoles · 11/10/2011 14:59

lol at cider vinegar, i feel part of a proper quiche what with in jokes n everyfink

run last night was dreadful, didn't even get half way through :( am v scared of wk4 and still fighting off a cold so not the best time to try. will try again tomorrow probably

today's exercise will mainly involve having to restrain myself from flirting outrageously with dd1's extremely rugged'n'dark teacher with whom we have parent teacher doodah tonight. dh will be coming with me and my eyebrows need doing so prob best to behave Grin

apple
2 satsumas
mixed salad (2)
pea and wasabi dip
rocket and parmesan dip
pineapple

3 x steamed veg at tea time

will have to shoehorn another portion in there somewhere I reckon

yogurt covered raisins... you'd have to eat a LOT of 'em to get a portion Grin

veg is definitely better than fruit, low gi, less sugar etc I tend to eat too much fruit I reckon. I need to get some pulses in there somehow but dh is pulsophobic so can be tricky. will have to try him on avi's tagine :)

how are you newbies doing? veggering on a hangover is veh veh hard

apols for shitty typing, am having a can't be arsed day :)

FourThousandHoles · 11/10/2011 15:01

What is the official position on wasabi peas? Not that I eat them often, I can't find them anywhere round here. PINK can you get them up your way do you know?
