Hello all
I am resurrecting an old tradition of boosting general health by committing to doing at least 10 mins of exercise and aiming for 10 portions of Fruit and veg a day.
The old threads always had genius titles - a particular favourite being aaah Leek out, le leek, c'est chic"

Heres hoping

I was just lusting after looking at graze boxes and wondering what wasabi peas were ?

Sorry your run didn't go well, neither did mine. THe NHS C25K site said sometimes you have a bad run and not to worry it still improves your health. Read about my bad run here

Food to follow...

Babieseverywhere · 11/10/2011 16:05
  1. Seeds mix and berries (on cereal and snack)
2 & 3. Salad for lunch plates worth
  1. Chilli Flavour Peanuts, 25 g...yeah or nay.
  2. Grapes, 40g is that enough for a portion.

So somewhere between 3 and 5.

Aiming to have stir fry with chicken for tea and I'll try and fit in an apple or banana/carrot snack later...maybe. ;)

Yeah, nice to chat to another ECer.

I've got 1 year old DD on the potty atm. She is getting cheeky. This afternoon she signed 'toilet' and said 'poo' just as I was packing pram for school run. Didn't want to discourage her, so strip her down three layers popped her on potty and she laughed and crawled off,...arghh, late to school.

I'm very lazy with ECing but she is doing with well with three poos caught in last four days and a few wees.

Surely Nuts and seeds are plants like fruit and veg and good for us...how can they not count ?!?

FrannyandZooey · 11/10/2011 17:48

Oi I ECed quite a bit
I know I didn't start till 8 months but I did do it

how can nuts and seeds be a vegetable? I ask you

right:
orange juice
melon
grapes
pear
raisins
lettuce, spinach, toms, cucumber, beetroot = 1 portion
roast onions, peppers, butternut, mushrooms, courgette = 2 portions

seems like 8, must do better

exercise ha ha ha

i can't decide whether I am in or out of this thing

OliviaMumsnet · 11/10/2011 19:55

Oh be in Franny, be in!!
I am sure seeds count as vegetables. They grow don't they?!

What is consensus on potatoes chips?
Today
OJ
Carrot juice
Banana
Salad
chips
(waiting for DH to come home and cook - hopefully lots of veg Wink)

Fran I don't think any of us managed to vegger properly when we were upduffed. All I could eat was jelly beans. Stay and we can keep asking you how long you have left and stroke your bump and stuff.

I have never attempted ECing, dd2 (just 2) sits on the potty for ages saying "I do wee" and then gets up and pisses on the floor Hmm

FourThousandHoles · 11/10/2011 20:00

Olivia potatoes don't count, but you know that don't you Grin

FrannyandZooey · 11/10/2011 20:08

rice grows, it's not a vegetable
dear lord i am among heathens
4000 i can do the vegging bit, it's the threading bit
slightly odd isn't it? it's been a while

SuePurblybilt · 11/10/2011 21:20

Today

School run twice is about 30 mins walking

Water 1/10 (as in one pint)

Fruit - o/10

Veg - 9/10
Spinach, cherry toms, sweetcorn, red and yellow peppers, cucumber, raw carrot, cos lettuce, brocolli. In salad (huge bowl) and for both lunch and dinner so it must count as one portion of each, surely?

Mars Bars - 1/10 Blush

SuePurblybilt, I forgot about the school run, is that countable as exercise ?

In which case every school day I do 10 minute brisk walk 4 times a day covering 1.3 miles, pushing pram with two kids in it (they are too slow walking to get to school on time) and the oldest is nearly 3 stone !

I will also be doing Week Three, Run Three of the C25K which is 25 minutes run/walk, after tea :)

Food wise.

  1. Berries on cereal
  2. Apple for snack
  3. Fruit Tea Do we count fruit tea ? DD2 has taken a liking to it, so we share cooled cups ;)
Babieseverywhere · 12/10/2011 10:11

aviatrix, I'm sure the water bit is optional, isn't this fruit/veg/exercise thread ?

Very annoying that is is now unhealthy to drink loads of water now, it is the only thing I am good at in my food intake :( :)

FourThousandHoles · 12/10/2011 16:29

ten pints of water is waaaay over the top

I drink very little actual water but manage to stay well hydrated

too much water is bad for you, it flushes too many electrolytes out of your system (I think, happy to be corrected)

BE I know you drink a few glasses a day but I doubt it's anywhere near 10 pints!

Babieseverywhere · 12/10/2011 18:30

I misread a bit somewhere along the way. I could not drink 10 pints a day, I would be on the loo all day !

  1. Berries on cereal
  2. Apple for snack
  3. Another apple afternoon snack
  4. Full salad (2 portions) for tea

Oh dear not a good count...better than nothing mind.

FourThousandHoles · 12/10/2011 20:33

mixed salad (1)
apple
mushrooms
onion
orange juice

not so good myself today either

I had to run from the town centre to school today, prob about half a mile but I was pushing dd2 who is enormous in her buggy and wearing shoes with slippery soles. And it was raining. And it was wearing a raincoat which made me sweat a LOT. I must have looked very attractive when I arrived. But I will count it as my exercise for today Grin

Keep threading Franny, and everyone else. I am liking having you all here :)

bocoid · 12/10/2011 21:39

Right

apple
orange
Parsnip
lentil
carrot
sweetcorn
tomato
orange juice
raisins and dried pinapple

= 9.

I'm not good at water so quite pleased to hear that it's not so good for you after all.

FourThousandHoles · 12/10/2011 21:43

just the one lentil boco?

FourThousandHoles · 12/10/2011 21:43

one lentil does not a portion make

bocoid · 12/10/2011 22:00

Oh it was a MASSIVE lentil!

No, it was many, made into soup. It wasn't very nice soup, but I did eat it all up. The deli near my work make amazing home made soup, the best is anythign with tarragon, the lentil not my favourite.

Babieseverywhere · 12/10/2011 22:01
OliviaMumsnet · 13/10/2011 12:43

Aviatrix I have misremembered. (not uncommon) so the 10/10/10 will be gone for the next thread.

I have been to the gym
Did 40mins roughly
Also had "vital" statistics done with one of those terrifying scale things.
I do feel fab though. All that endorphin nonsense.

So am vegging with a vengeance
Had apple and raisin with my porridge (I'd say 1 portion total)
Banana after workout (get me I went for a workout)
Lunch is toms, cherry toms (do they count as separate?)
cucumber, carrot and mixed leaves
(is that 7?)

FrannyandZooey · 13/10/2011 17:54

guys, you have got to check the portion charts linked earlier by Avi and me
it isn't about eating 10 different fruit and veg, it's about 10 PORTIONS of f+v, really entirely different, especially where salad is concerned
a portion of salad is BIG, about cereal bowl sized

sorry to be pedantic but that is what 10/10 meant, 10 full portions a day, if you want to get there you need to look at the chart here: www.nhs.uk/Livewell/5ADAY/Documents/Downloads/5ADAY_portion_guide.pdf

FrannyandZooey · 13/10/2011 17:59

i think i am just going to come on occasionally and chastise people about their listing
is that more or less what i did before?

orange juice
kiwi
nectarine
grapes
lettuce, toms, pepper, beetroot, cucumber = 1 portion
borlotti beans

coming up: carrots, broccoli, red cabbage = 2.5

total : 8.5
I need to step it up here, I mostly ate cheese and biscuits today though Blush
