here we are- anticipating halloween

Don't worry, it's an annoyance but it is possible to improve it, I am sure. I had it a bit but exercise sorted it

I may be talking out of turn here because I did not have a mastectomy but that post surgery exercise they give you where you have to keep stretching your arm straight up above your head (climbing it gradually up a wall, if necessary) - I am sure that one was to do with cording.

Step away from Google and get a bit of sensible BCN advice.

KurriKurri · 29/09/2011 13:12

Poor you pink, I think it sounds like cording too. I'd ask about physio, and also speak to BCN of course.

Have been to yoga this morning, spent a long time toppling over in a heap perfecting the cow's head Grin

Hope everyone is OK today Smile

smee · 29/09/2011 13:14

pink, cording's a pain but is fixable. I had it after my op but the exercises sorted it quite quickly. From memory that one where you creep your hands up a wall until they're up straight above your head is good. Once you can do that, I also used to have a stretchy piece of rubber (like those they use in yoga) round a coat hook in the hall and used to use that to pull my arms up above my head and back gently.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2011 13:22

Am breaking out the giant buttons - anyone ?
Dad has to go back to hospital for more eye surgery (we went to the community hospital for appointment today) Apparently there is a thickening behind the new lens so needs more laser work- pesky but not too worrying..I shall take him anyway and perhaps see if my bcn is about while I wait.
Having hair cut later- ds is going tomorrow,so there'll be much scowling and crossness.

OP posts:
smee · 29/09/2011 13:22

Should have added, once you're through rads and feeling fitter, swimming's brilliant for keeping arms/ shoulders moving. I really miss it now if I don't go.

Thanks to all for thoughts on work - I will try the minor op thing and see what they say. Hope everyone has some of this sun today. Weird to be in sandals again, but I am getting a taste for it. Smile

smee · 29/09/2011 13:23

MAS, pass the buttons!! Smile I was hoping boys grow out of hating their hair being cut...

cakesandale · 29/09/2011 13:29

Buttons for me too, PLEASE. Ooh yum.

Dd has gone to the space centre at Leicester today, with the school. She wants to be an astronomer Hmm so she is v excited and has had no sleep at all

For her current homework we are making a model of Jupiter. I managed to go through my whole school career without ever getting involved with papier mache, but boy, am I an expert now Grin

SparkleRainbow · 29/09/2011 13:33

Beautiful sunshine here, really hot.

Pink I am sorry that you are having such a rotten time of it. Brew and Biscuit anytime you want.

Love the parrot stories. Funnily enough ds asked for one yesterday....Hmm I think not!

Picking up kittens at 10.30 tomorrow......dh still talking about going as soon as he wakes....which will be about 6.30am!!!!!! Am going to have to hide the car keys just to keep him here until a reasonable hour.

Hopsital went fine yesterday for ds and later for me. DD2 sat by my feet on the examination bed "reading" Pepper Pig book, much to surprise of the nurse, who though she was going to be "difficult".

SparkleRainbow · 29/09/2011 13:34

She will sleep on the way home in the coach!!! I am thinking of taking ds there too, as he develops his future career or astrophysicist/spy.

KurriKurri · 29/09/2011 13:47

Ooh buttons, I like buttons Smile

Sorry about your Dad's eye MAS, - that's a nuisance, but good that its not a serious problem.

Hope DD has fun at the space centre Cakes. I don't envy you the model of Jupiter, - I so glad my papier mache-ing days are over Grin

Glad the appointments went fine Sparkle, - can't wait to see photos of those kittens Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2011 13:59

ooh I like papier mache- I went through a phase of making stuff with it...
And am envious of trip to the space centre- we always see the signs for it as we drive up the M1 and say-oh we should go there...but we never do.
Hope dd has a fab time and isn't too exhausted !
Am glad dad's eyes aren't too bad- it's a relief.

OP posts:
cakesandale · 29/09/2011 14:03

Sorry MAS, I am sorry to hear about your Dad's eye too. No wonder you were havng a bit of a wobble about him if this was in the offing, they always look little and frail at a hospital (actually, so do I Grin )

Glad the appointments went well Sparkles. ANd that dd2 was not 'difficult' Wink

I am still jealous about the kittens, but I wish you joy of them. We will need pictures.

I'll report back on the verdict on the space centre if you are interested Sparkles. I hope she has not slept on the coach, why should she have all the fun?

cakesandale · 29/09/2011 14:07

Did you know Smarties are only 85 calories a tube? That's almost a diet food, right there!

I was briefly excited when I noticed a little 5 in a circle as well. But it turns out they aren't one of your 5 a day after all, it's a points collecting system of some kind Hmm

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2011 14:45

arf @cakes !! Grin x

OP posts:
smee · 29/09/2011 15:03

Grin cakes. If only...!

MAS, when does your dad need his laser surgery? Does he get nervous? Hope not.

Sparkle, good to hear hospital was okay. DD sounds very sweet. And kittens tomorrow, yeay!! Pictures are expected. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2011 15:06

I suppose he'll have to wait a month or two- he was very calm with the cataracts -he said it was all fascinating..there's no blood,so he's ok ! The surgeon is very nice too.

OP posts:
smee · 29/09/2011 16:44

Well that's good then. Still must be a teeny bit daunting though.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2011 16:47

oh yes- I'd be very wibbly about it !

OP posts:
pinkstarlight · 29/09/2011 17:37

thanks you have put my mind at rest about the cording, will bring it up with my gp.

mas..your dad sounds a bit of a character. as for your sons haircut glad to hear my teen dd is not the only one who gets angry over hair cuts and somehow its always my fault then come the threats im not going school tomorrow with my hair like this but of course she always does.

sparkle...glad your hospital visits went ok,what a good little girl you have.bet your so excited nearly kitty time.

cakes...we have been to the space centre a couple of times,im sure your dd will enjoy it.

dont know if my brains being mushy but is someone having an op today?also is topsy ok.

SparkleRainbow · 29/09/2011 17:41

SOOO excited, I keep nearly telling the children! Yes please I would like a run down on the high and low points of the space centre trip.

My lovely friend who supported me through the breast surgery etc, despite having such awful things going on in her life at the time, stood up and spoke at the Labour Party conference today, I am so proud of her!!!!! She is amazing, and I am in awe.

SparkleRainbow · 29/09/2011 18:10

MAS I am glad your dad is so calm about his laser eye surgery. I too would be a little wibbly about it....dad's so much braver than us. Wink Did you see your bcn while you waited?

Cakes....are you telling me that smarties aren't part of ones five day???? Sob sob...... I was banking on that Wink

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2011 19:38

wow -impressed by your friend sparkl;e !!
Didn't see BCN as we were only at the community hospital for this appointment-will be going to main hosp. when he has his laser treatment.
Have just had hair cut and while I was there a classmate of the boy's was having her hair bleached and highlighted (she's 14) -costing her mum about £90 !! Shock was amazed ! the hairdressers were too (after she'd gone) I should get away with £14 tomorrow, which is quite a lot for a boy's hair (he won't go to a barbers because they'd use a razor and he is terrified)
Am fretting about when he needs to shave...I couldn't face a bearded child

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 29/09/2011 19:52

KK's Asian biccies inspired me to go into the Philippino shop on the way to hairdressers (needed some change for tip) I bought some very nice biscuits- honey flavoured...

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 29/09/2011 20:05

Very impressed with your friend Sparkle - well done her Smile

£90 for a child's hairdo is quite astonishing MAS Shock. Are you pleased with your cut - was it a new style, or a trim and tidy kind of thing?

The biscuits sound good - I am Envy of your Philippino shop.

DH and I were just watching the end of Top of The Pops 2, and ABBA were on singing Dancing Queen. DH just said 'oh my God they are singing 'You're in the mood for a dance' I always thought that line was 'You're in the Hoover Dam' '
Confused - I really despair sometimes.

pinkstarlight · 29/09/2011 21:41
