OP posts:
smee · 16/09/2011 10:03

Glad you're feeling not too bad. Have a very lazy day - I know that's not your forte, but try very hard. [staples amber to the sofa]

You're right about the spealling - the English language really is a sod to learn I've been amazed seeing him learn how insane it really is. You kind of forget when you know iyswim. Still though, he totally gets that some words can be spelt phonetically and others you have to learn and he knew those words in Yr1 and now he's Yr3..! He can however build a fiendish pully system, hooked all round the table, which opens the oven when he pulls on the kitchen door. Obviously far more useful in life. Grin

cakesandale · 16/09/2011 10:06

I have the feet thing too, smee. I think it is the tamoxifen, for sure

EarthMotherImNot · 16/09/2011 10:07

Hi allSmile after yesterdays debacle the BCN asked me to come in today at 4pm and have the damn thing drained again to get me through the weekendHmm as it's unlikely to not flood again and the unit is closed over the weekend so it would mean going onto the ward and having a doctor drain it when he/she had time.

Just went for a lie down and 20 minutes later I'm drenchedAngry oh god why me.
What do I do? mop up until 4pm or go now?

smee · 16/09/2011 10:24

Earth, maybe call the BCN and see if they could do it earlier. No point going now if you have to sit around and wait until 4pm. Am passing a Brew and Biscuit to distract.

amberlight · 16/09/2011 10:24

I'd ring and say you need to go in now, if it was me. What a palaver for you...
Have a Brew to replace some of that flood... I would make it for you but someone's stapled me to the sofa Grin

cakesandale · 16/09/2011 10:28

Smee - that stuff has the potential to be way more useful in life than spelling, which I have always thought to be a pedantic little skill (and one of the few I possess Hmm )

Glad you are feeling OK amber, but I'm with smee. Sit down, woman!

Earth, oh dear, poor you. It's horrible, sticky fluid as well isn't it? I'd say call the nurse as well. But don't suffer over the weekend: if you need to go to the ward and get it done, just do. Don't let it make you miserable. I am still promising that it WILL stop in a week or two.

EarthMotherImNot · 16/09/2011 10:37

I've rang the unit and the nurse I need to see doesn't begin work until 12Angry She isn't my usual nurse who is off today, just someone covering for her.

To top it all my friend can't give me a lift until later as we'd agreed yesterday. I shall just sit quietly leaking, not a bother to anyone me (I can hear violins)

amberlight · 16/09/2011 10:56

Arrgh Earth, have another Brew

EarthMotherImNot · 16/09/2011 11:01

thanks amberSmile funny thing drinking coffee watching my wound leakGrin
Like those cartoons where the cowboy gets shot, takes a drink and it pours outGrin

smee · 16/09/2011 11:20

Grim, grim.. Earth it will stop honestly. Just another bit of crap from BC. Soon be past it though. More Biscuit would that help?

amberlight · 16/09/2011 11:54

Earth, Grin yup...

smee · 16/09/2011 11:55

Cakes, am reassured by you having the achey feet thing too. Must be the Tamoxifen. I can spell too, though you're right, I'd far rather be able to make ingenious pully systems. Grin

KurriKurri · 16/09/2011 12:03

Waves to cupcaked, - great to see you and to hear you are doing so well, and that the boys are keeping you busy, and well done for getting back to work. Hot flushes from the tamox. are a bugger, but they do calm down slightly after a while I found. Lack of stamina again, does improve gradually.
Lovely you could pop in, - look forward to seeing you again Smile

Earth, you poor thing, it sounds awful, I hope they get rid of plenty this afternoon, and it doesn't play up over the weekend.

English language is bizarre Smee, your DS has a logical approach though which is good.
Here in Norfolk, the children pronounce all the words ending 'ome' to rhyme with come/some, I used to have children coming in and telling me 'I've done my humwork' Grin - makes it easier to remember spellings though if you pronounce everything the same way!

amber, stay nailed to that sofa, and don't do a thing, (a little bell to ring when you need anything, can be useful Grin)

Hope you aren't feeling too grotty today topsy.

Waving to everyone, - sorry about the grapefruit news, no one told me anything about it, but a pharmacist mentioned it at a talk I went to once, and on googling it turns out to be true. Everyone else there seemed to know, so I thought I was the only person who didn't. Wish I'd said before, now I know its not been mentioned to anyone. Sad

topsyturner · 16/09/2011 12:09

Oh earth , I am sitting here quietly giggleing at the image of you sprouting leaks like a lawn sprinkler every time you drink something !
Only problem is my district nurse is here and I am sure she thinks I am looking at porn on the laptop Grin

amber - am backing up the staples with a roll of duct tape . Get back on the sofa woman !

It is peeing down here , big time . Think I shall take advantage of the many offers from friends to do the school run today .

I have had crumpets and butter , and the other half of my (99p from Tesco / special offer) giant Galaxy bar .
And that was just breakfast , now to decide what is for lunch ! (darn those steroids for making me eat Grin )

And hello to cupcaked , pleased to meet you .

amberlight · 16/09/2011 12:37

They Weighed Me yesterday! Shock
Oh my!
Oh deary me.
3/4 stone extra from the start of chemo.
Gah!

SparkleRainbow · 16/09/2011 12:48

Oh Earth....how are you doing? Keep drinking Brew and eating Biscuit, you never know they might stem the flow, the Biscuit that is not the Brew. Wink I hope you have got through to the nurse now it is after 12.

Amber - I would like to reinforce the staples and duct tape, but I asm not sure what is left.....lie down.

Topsy you will be making the district nurses day by giggling, she will go back and dine out for days on the patient surfing porn whilst she cahnges dressings....what an exciting life you lead. Grin

Smee, my ds thinks spellings and writing come to that is an over rated and out dated fad insisted upon at the behest of teachers! He too would find a pully system which can open the oven door much more interesting... and quite frankly he would also point out that computer spell checkers negate the need for learning how to spell anyway.

Ds appt was "interesting" I was very reserved and didn't rise to the comment that only paed orthopaedic surgeons based in London truely hadf the knowledge to help ds.....I could have screamed thats why I wanted you to refer him to GOSH a year ago....but I refrained....disgression and valour and all that jazz. He has decided in his wisdom that ds should be left in pain for 6 hours before hospitalistion due to his neck, unless neurology symptoms are detected......the school had major slight fit about this info this morning, rightly pointing out they are not medical professionals and can not make judgements about what is and is not a neurology symptom..... Fun goes on. Ds read star wars character guide throughout consultation, including being manipulated and examined Grin He also requested of the consultant as to whether he could stay outside and read and mummy could just go into the appt for him...... I like his style Grin

SparkleRainbow · 16/09/2011 12:48

Oh amber..boo weight gain, but cut yourself some slack over this....and get back on that sofa!

amberlight · 16/09/2011 12:50

I'm reclining whilst on the computer, which counts as resting, honest! Smile

cakesandale · 16/09/2011 12:50

One more crap SE, amber.

And I don't want to depress you, but it's a bastard to shift, as well. Sad

But my advice would be not to sweat it too much at the moment: just concentrate on eating healthily and well so you keep your energy up and heal well, and put the weight gain on the back burner for now.

SparkleRainbow · 16/09/2011 12:55

disgression.....??????? discretion!!!!!!!!!

Clearly not only can I no longer type or spell, I have never been able to make a pulley system either..

SparkleRainbow · 16/09/2011 12:55

I agree with cakes amber...one battle at a time.

smee · 16/09/2011 13:18

Sparkle does that mean they will refer him to someone at GOSH? I like your DS's style too. Grin

Amber, 3/4 stone's not a lot to lose. Honestly fret not. There'll be time for getting rid, once you're through treatment. Smile

SparkleRainbow · 16/09/2011 13:25

Nothing as useful smee. I am resigned to the fact that they can not tell what is happening to ds' neck, and how the vertebrae are moving. I am hanging on to the fact that the spinal cord has nice space around it, so it gives him a bit of "wiggle room" when the bones move.

Not sure how to alter emergency protocols in school, or whether I should alter them at all, I am not happy with teachers and TAs being required to make medical decisions, any more than they are. So think we will have to keep same protocol, ambulance when it happens, and deal with the consequences when we get to the hospital.

cakesandale · 16/09/2011 13:29

Sounds bloody unsatisfactory, Sparkles. If they don't know what's happening, and it is potentially so serious, I'd have thought a referral to someone who might would be the only possible next step. Confused

SparkleRainbow · 16/09/2011 13:33

Not going to happen. What do you think about the 6 hour wait thing, his T at school was shocked and said it was tantamount to chilc abuse to leave a child in severe pain without medical assistance. I am too close to this, and have lost my perspective.
