You in scratch mode this morning, cc?

I don't know. It started to grate on Friday afternoon, was worse yesterday and today ... gone!

kleist · 11/12/2005 10:38

I keep imagining throat cancer ... Punishment for years of smoking ... But that wouldn't be so sudden would it?

charlietherednosedpussy · 11/12/2005 10:38

Ah well...at least your other half wont be able to hear you harping on LOL...nah...its shite, you dont realise how much you need your voice till it goes!
Hope it comes back soon

charlietherednosedpussy · 11/12/2005 10:39

No I dont think so... Goodness me your morbid.

OP posts:
kleist · 11/12/2005 10:42

Cc, I always dread that all those years of smoking will creep up on me. I'm not generally morbid. Only when I think about the damage of smoking

charlietherednosedpussy · 11/12/2005 11:24

I have my fingers crossed that we have stopped in time. I also have my fingers crossed that one day in my lifetime they will ban fags altogether.

kleist · 11/12/2005 13:12

I think it's the only way really cc. Hopefully our kids will look back on our generation of smokers and think 'why?'

dropinthemanger · 12/12/2005 15:56

Know what you mean Kleist.I quite often wake up in the morning with a tight chest and a sore throat as if I had smoked a pack of 20 before going to bed. It's been nearly 10 months since I've stopped!

Very worrying!

Hows everyone doing?

Lucy-where are you and what you up to for Christmas?

kleist · 12/12/2005 18:48

Hmmm ... that sounds as though your throat's getting dry in the night, drop. Do you think you're dehydrated when you go to bed? How's your red wine consumption?

Yes, what happened to Lucy? And em. And wm. Funny how they've just come and gone ... Especially em. I really thought she'd kick it in the end ...

And where oh where is that dang cat?!

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 12/12/2005 18:50

I will be joining you soon - think I'll smoke my last on Christmas day (don't like "new year" resolutions are they always fail)

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 12/12/2005 18:51

hope my last ones will be xmas day too.... especially if dad gets me Allen Carr like i asked! My dad is serious anti-smoking so i reckon im on to a winner there.

kleist · 12/12/2005 18:52

Is Christmas Day a good idea? I always needed loads more that day. Plus if you've got New Year's Eve plans to go out you might slide. Personally I'd recommend quitting at a totally ordinary day that you decide on and prepare for for a few weeks. Each fag you smoke before then, have a good think about it, is it worth it, etc. then just go for it at a time when you've got nothing to give you an excuse to slide!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 12/12/2005 18:57

ok, boxing day - give me a chance to read the book!

Hoping that if it works for me, DH will read it and it will work for him too.

kleist · 12/12/2005 19:00

I think, if I remember correctly, you're meant to read the book over a week or 10 days, so that would take you nicely into the New Year. I'd go for, say, 3 January or so if I was you! Get all the Christmas / New Year pressures over, then you can focus on it. Depends how addicted you are of course!

charlietherednosedpussy · 12/12/2005 19:02

Just jumping in with dp is still off the fags. Being an utter c**t but still off the fags. Get motivating these new quitters kleist

OP posts:
kleist · 12/12/2005 19:05

I'm trying to be motivating, cc, is it working?

Is this the longest your dp's lasted then?

HRHQueenOfQuelNoel · 12/12/2005 19:06

"Is Christmas Day a good idea? " - Yes it is

"I always needed loads more that day." - I tend to smoke less on days like that - too busy to go outside for one

" Plus if you've got New Year's Eve plans to go out you might slide." - no plans - at home as usual

"Personally I'd recommend quitting at a totally ordinary day that you decide on and prepare for for a few weeks." - yes been preparing for weeks

"
Each fag you smoke before then, have a good think about it, is it worth it, etc. then just go for it at a time when you've got nothing to give you an excuse to slide! "

Already do - I've got plenty of excuses to let it slide - and can't see them disappearing any time soon - so Christmas Day it is (well Boxing Day as I'll smoke on Christmas Day).

kleist · 12/12/2005 19:09

Ok, HRH, whatever you think will work best for you ... I'm only making (un)helpful suggestions!

How many are you on? Can you cut back over the week before Christmas? It really helped me to cut from 10 to 5 or less in the week or so before I quit, made the initial cravings easier.

charlietherednosedpussy · 12/12/2005 19:12

He lasted 3 months once...no probs but has spent the last 3 years chuffing away like a chimney working up to this quit. Has had other half days etc...one fag a day for a wek etc but this has been pure cold turkey yeeehaaa...

OP posts:
jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 12/12/2005 19:23

Too embarrassed to say how many i smoke, but can say im truly addicted.

Will see how i get on, just hope you lot will still be here when im crying/shaking/going insane when it does happen!

charlietherednosedpussy · 12/12/2005 19:24

JandRmum...I was on 25-35 roll ups a day now im free ...dont be be honest

OP posts:
dropinthemanger · 12/12/2005 19:35

I totally agree with Kleist on picking a non-important day to quit! I chose National No Smoking Day!!!!

No, really-can you believe, I have always been adamant that I couldn't have stopped on a Monday but did it easily on a Wednesday!

Mental!

charlietherednosedpussy · 12/12/2005 19:36

I stopped a week after my kids birthday. The realisation id been trying since the year before and was still chuffing was
