Good morning everyoneSmile and thanks for all your welcomes yesterday.

Last night was hard, very weepySad This morning, swollen eyes aside, I'm feeling stronger. Its a brand new daySmile

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/08/2011 08:30

my friend calls those pasta shell eyes Earth - hope today is good for you, remember we're here for coffee, tea, cake, cocktails -anything.

amberlight · 10/08/2011 08:39

Brew amd ((((hugs)))) for anyone who needs a virtual hug.
Slept a lot better last night, thank goodness.
Figgy, hooray re progress so far. Sounds like you definitely need a better matched other side!! I'd give them a hard stare until they find something more suited.

SparkleRainbow · 10/08/2011 08:45

I missed the cocktails and the chance to be outraged by rude people on the beach. MAS and ILGC I think you both did very well not to flash your scars at both rude people to frighten them off Grin

I am glad he got home safely cakes, and that it wasn't a long long evening as you waited.

Earth crying and puffy eyes is a necessary evil to help you face the brand new day sometimes....well it is for me.

cakesandale · 10/08/2011 09:29

MAS - forgot to say. Jaw droppingly stupid of that woman to say that about your ds. Having the ability to concentrate and get absorbed in doing something well does NOT automatically make for a learning disorder. Maybe she is coping with children who have been identified in that way and was just hoped for some fellow feeling, but still, what a crass idiot.

ILGC - you have a lot on your plate.

Earth - everyone's right. Tears are better out than in. We've all sat here and cried - those of us with BC and those of us who -hooray! - are found to be without. So here, you can vent all you like whether it's about BC, the possibility of BC, or anything else, and we'll listen and pass the cake around.

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/08/2011 11:42

aw thanks Cakes- I fretted a bit I must say - maybe it's odd to see 14 yr olds interested in these things ? oh well.
Today it's RSPB-ing (ds v interested in birdlife,as are we through his interest).
There'll be Cosmopolitans later.

cakesandale · 10/08/2011 11:53

I dunno, but I would have thought that an ability to concentrate would be definite advantage. Some teenagers do seem to have a problem with focusing for any length of time but I'd think that was the problem rather than it being the other way round.

We like birding here too. The eagles, harriers etc on holiday were like manna from heaven. Oh, and lots and lots of hares, which are a major rarity around here.

Line me up a cosmo, I could do with it, V depressed about the state of things.

SparkleRainbow · 10/08/2011 11:55

MAS - Now now we won't have any fretting. He is not autistic, he is an intelligent boy, who has good concentration and was enjoying spending time messing around in the sand. This is to be celebrated not worried over, that kind of ability to concentrate will help him no end. The woman had one possibly 2 dc with LD, and just unfortunately associated the repetitve construction of his sand mountains with something which it was not. Have a wonderful day RSPB ing with your wonderful boy......and raise a cosmo to him later.

SparkleRainbow · 10/08/2011 11:58

x post cakes, I agree with you, the advantage of being able to sustain concentration is something that is invaluable.

I think it is the air pressure or something, I too am feeling very down about what is going on around us, and feeling the pressure of juggling everything.

KurriKurri · 10/08/2011 13:40

Hello all Smile Earth, - I think crying helps, it's good to get the tension out of your system, and as cakes says, here is the place to vent.

Also keen birders here MAS, - we are lucky in that the house backs onto fields, and there is a wood across the road, so we get quite a variety in the garden. Hope you and DS have a good day. He always sounds such a lovely boy, - you've done a good job and have nothing to worry about Smile

Went to yoga this morning, one of the other people who goes is a doctor, so she had a look at my eye for me, and declared me fit for purpose. She said there some sort of tissue plates or something in your head, and you can bang it and the bruising by passes everything and comes out over your eye.(At least I think thats what she said) Anyway she diagnosed that I was a walking disaster area Grin

The news is very depressing at the moment, it just goes on and on. Sad

Sister got home safely , she said the roads were the quietest she has ever seen . She left the buns , hence the handing round of them before they go stale Grin

earth - weep , wail , gnash teeth . You have to let it out of your system . We all do it . I have days when I feel like I can't lift my head of my pillow . So I allow myself a duvet day . Be good to yourself .

8 year old DD managed to kick 12 year old DS (3 week old) laptop over on Sunday and smashed the screen on it .
DS was heartbroken .
DD was hysterically upset at what she had done .
We had tears and snots for hours .
Phoned the house insurance people on Monday , and thank the Lord , we are covered !
They picked it up this morning to assess it for either repair or replacement .

Good job too , as I think DS would never speak to DD again !

cakesandale · 10/08/2011 14:29

Ah well, that's good news, Topsy. Thank goodness for that, accidental damage is always a worry. When dh went through the loft ceiling it transpired that we weren't covered for criminal idiocy and we had to pay up ourselves Hmm

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 10/08/2011 14:49

Thanks for all the support, clearly something my swimming costume lacks! It was one of those classic " I hope you are not offended but...........". Yes we have had a fairly shit year but in many ways we are fortunate and reading Mumsnet you do feel you are not alone.
However I am off to Italy tomorrow with all 3DC, DD1's boyfriend, my best friend and her 3 and we are all staying at an old uni friend's villa just outside Florence. So some things in life are good.
MAS only last week my 17year old DS and two friends spent an entire day on the beach creating some extremely complex irrigation/sand sculpture thingy, even at one stage refusing sandwiches! I thing it is a boy/construction thing, I seem to have spent half my life watching him and pals absorbed in this sort of thing and DH used to be as bad.
Earth I hope you feel brighter soon.

cakesandale · 10/08/2011 14:53

Have a great time ILGC. Don't forget to come back here afterwards (or obviously during, if you want, but I imagine you want to get right away and forget Smile )

KurriKurri · 10/08/2011 14:58

Have a great holiday ILGC, I haven't been to Florence since my student days, would love to go again - it is beautiful. Smile

OP posts:
cakesandale · 10/08/2011 15:09

Why don't we have friends with villas in places like that? Hmm

In fact, I don't think I have any friends with any second homes anywhere at all, and we struggle with the mortgage on just the one

smee · 10/08/2011 16:27

Am I too early for cocktails?! You need to educate me after all. Grin

ILGC, have a fab time. If anyone deserves a friend with a villa outside Florence, it's undoubtedly you. Enjoy. Smile

Topsy, heck no wonder DS was so cross. Great you were insured - I haven't a clue if we would be. [scuttles off to check policy]

Earth, nice to see you're still with us. Shell eyes sound pretty normal to me. Is your appt tomorrow or next Thursday?

I feel strangely more optimistic today. We had a quiet riot free night and life on the streets seems back to normal, with lots of loud tut-tutting from the majority and renewed community spirit, which is always a plus. Hope it stays, but who knows.

Figgy, hope you're okay today. Must feel good to be home. Smile

SparkleRainbow · 10/08/2011 17:08

I don't really do cocktails, although maybe I just need someone to educate me on them too.

Actually I had a choccie biscuit earlier, and now i feel sick, so I am sticking to the Brew.

Cakes, I am glad I am not alone in not knowing anyone with a second home, holiday or otherwise.....quite frankly keeping on top of one home is like fighting a losing battle Confused

Smee your gifts of ideas keep giving, another happy day building dens, and now being spies, crawling around trying to watch me without me seeing them, of course I am helping by being "oblivious" to what is going on Grin

SparkleRainbow · 10/08/2011 17:08

Topsy, I am glad your sis got home safely. Smile

smee · 10/08/2011 17:37

Ooh if they like spying Sparkle, how about invisible messages? Use Lemon juice to write (cotton wool buds are good), then boil red cabbage and use the water to paint over the invisible writing. Or you can put it in a low heat oven - the juice darkens as it gets hot, so you can read it.

I have a holiday home. It's minimal, shifts location and is made of canvas. Grin

SparkleRainbow · 10/08/2011 18:02

I do have one of those then......albeit too compact to fit the whole family in. Grin

Invisible writing......excellent that is at least an hour tomorrow sorted. What would I do without you?

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 10/08/2011 18:10

It isn't a second home, she very sensibly married a gorgeous Italian doctor and has spent the last 20 years making the rest of us hideously jealous! Not only is he lovely he can cook!!!! However if anyone wants a break on the Isle of Wight I know of a slightly scruffy home that is vacant!

KurriKurri · 10/08/2011 18:13

A lovely friend has just given me a big bag of cooking apples from her garden, - yum yum, apple sponge tonight I think Smile

I'm glad things have settled down a bit Smee, and that the children are having fun Sparkle.

topsy - thank goodness it was insured. And good that your sis got home safely (and very nice of her to leave cake Grin)

Have just spent half an hour on the phone trying to explain the plot of a drama series to my mum. (The Hour - anyone else watching?) She's decided she wants to watch it, but has missed the first four episodes and wanted me to 'fill her in' Grin

She also told me that my very annoying not to mention spoilt 13 yr old nephew had set of the fire extinguisher in her house because he was fiddling with it, its only one of those small house ones, but still made quite a mess.

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 10/08/2011 18:35

Oh that will be dreadful to get out of the carpet, your poor mum Kurri.

smee · 10/08/2011 18:52

Ooh your poor Mum, Kurri. As if she hasn't enough to be getting on with. I'm watching 'The Hour'. Not convinced by it at all, but still strangely hooked.

ILGC, I'm jealous of your friend now too. Excellent that she lets you all share - though only some aspects of course! Grin

Where's MAS with the cocktails? Smile
