Tada! A shiney new thread - get me with my fancy asterisks Grin

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 10/08/2011 19:28

here I am with a tray of Cosmopolitans, nicely chilled...
Thank you all for kind words about ds Smile..we had a lovely day walking from hide to hide with our binoculars- lots of sloes out - Pulborough is a really nice RSPB place- hadn't been before.
Eek about laptop topsy but glad it's insured ! Ds has finally managed to wreck his camera (just over a year old) -it has a rough old time as he uses it a lot and is very careless with it- it's always sticky from grubby fingers and yesterday we warned him to keep it out of the sand... he is now going to buy himself a replacement.
How annoying about the fire extinguisher kk - hope your ma gets the plot of The Hour- does she have access to iPlayer ?
We may go to London tomorrow - ds wants to look at buildings in the city & docklands -will see what weather is up to.
Have a wonderful holiday ILGC - sounds idyllic ! Hope those feeling down feel a little perkier very soon- another cocktail should do it.

KurriKurri · 10/08/2011 20:04

She doesn't have iplayer MAS, but she was talking today of getting herself a laptop, and asking if I thought she'd manage to use one (which she would because she's bright as a button).

I love all the fifties outfits on the Hour Smile Mum will probably pick it up, she's watching the repeat of this weeks episode, and I've told her roughly what's happened, and who's sleeping with who Grin

My nephew is A Boy With No Common Sense, he has his nice moments but can also be a bit of a pain, and I think mum finds him a bit difficult, he's quite rude to her, and always asking her for money etc. Hmm - best not get into those sort of family things, he gets away with too much IMO.

Bird watching day sounds lovely MAS, as does trip to London tomorrow weather permitting (it's wet and windy here in Norfolk).

Got any non alcoholic cocktails on your tray tonight? - I can supply shortbread.

smee · 10/08/2011 20:15

Mmm, could get a taste for this. Have a lovely day tomorrow, MAS. Docklands is always interesting. I love the light railway. Smile

Kurri, your nephew sounds more than annoying. How old is he? Must be hard for your mum if he's so demanding. My niece and nephew have had their moments and it's very hard as a family to know how to talk about it. Usually not at all, just quiet seething!

KurriKurri · 10/08/2011 20:28

He's 13 Smee, but quite immature IMO, he has 4 much older siblings so has always been the baby of the family. I generally quietly seethe, but I won't have him being rude to my, parents. (DH calls him 'the little sod' Blush Grin)

OP posts:
smee · 10/08/2011 21:20

Hope he grows out of it, Kurri. Must be hard not to jump in if he's rude though. I hate that too. Don't his parents notice?

KurriKurri · 10/08/2011 21:51

My sister is a single mum, and she seems to be somewhat oblivious, or she'll rather half heartedly tell him off, to no affect, he's bigger than she is now so rather rules the roost. His older brothers won't put up with too much nonsense from him, but they don't live at home any more so not a major influence, and he doesn't see his dad, (parents split up soon after he was born, his siblings have a different father).

I'm hoping going to a new secondary school in sept. will improve him, he's not very good at making friends, but I think he could do with some kids his own age to hang out with, he's with adults all the time. If you can get him talking about his interests, he can be a nice boy, but then he'll say something rude or do something idiotic.

He does respond quite well to being given firm boundaries, I was in charge of him for a few days at my parents once, and was very strict with him (barking out orders army style Grin, and he declared me his favourite aunt Grin

I'm sure he'll turn out alright in the end.(Just wish he'd hurry up!)

Evening all. I've had the drain out (student nurse, ouch) and had a lot of leakage so have been taking it easy. The area where the drain was is very swollen and "fluidy" - do you think it will disperse? I'm hoping it wont need draining. Just feeling a bit battered really. Had a few tears today. Oh, and my left arm is feeling a bit odd too (mx was on left). I will ring the BC nurse in the morning. I thought I was doing really well but feel very down about it all. Sad

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/08/2011 22:31

oh figgy- no wonder you're feeling down-am sure that's post operative blues-after the relief of having got through the surgery- hope things improve for you.
KK - non-alcoholic Cosmopolitan coming your way...
I think I've always assumed that ds will do as I tell him Smile I am quite strict I think. Nephew obviously responds to boundaries and a bit of sternness as that makes him feel secure. I always loved the scariest, strictest teachers at primary school.

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 10/08/2011 23:14

Hi Figgy, hope you are feeling a bit better, just try to do the exercises they show you at the hospital and your arm will feel better. It is really early days and don't expect too much from yourself, my arm felt dodgy for a while after my mx but it is fine now. We all have good/bad days and I know this time last year I sometimes felt really down but it does get better xxx

EarthMotherImNot · 11/08/2011 07:04

Good morning allSmile Its a very wobbly Smile but still!

Well today is D-Day, my appointment is 1.45pm. I'm going to have a long soak in the bath and try not to think about this afternoon if I can. Please say a little prayer/wish me luck for later.

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/08/2011 08:14

Earth- will be thinking of you and sending many good vibes your way- stay calm xx

SparkleRainbow · 11/08/2011 08:18

Hi Earth, I am sending you big hugs, and all my best luck is winging its way to you. I hope you are reclined in a nice warm bath, with a hot mug of Brew. Perhaps a little walk this morning, if its not raining, so you aren't sitting around watching the clock?

Figgy, you are doing so well, I hope the fluid is starting to disperse, although it is really early days. Ring the BCN if you are not sure, I know they would rather hear from you, than have you stressing at home. Feet up, telly on, Brew ready for you....that is an order Grin

Sorry I missed the cosmos, I am knackered today, I let ds have a sleepover in dd1 and 2 room last night. He and dd1 were still awake chatting away at 9.30pm. Dd1 had written a story in her bed, ds was reading Famous Five, dd2 was fast asleep oblivious. They were all up at 6.00 this morning, so they are going to be fun today. By 6.30 they had put every soft toy in the house in dd2's cot, and it was literally full to the top, dd2 was not in it at the time but laughing manically on the floor. Dh had a bit of a stress about work last night and didn't sleep and I had loads of pain from my joints and strangely enough my lower ribcage. Fun day ahead....virtual cake may be needed Wink

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/08/2011 08:31

am exhausted already reading your post sparkle- will be ready with the cocktails at yard arm time (or earlier if needed)
Hope things feel better today figgy
And cakes so sorry- forgot to say how much I'm looking forward to dd's story !!!
Off to London with the boy to study buildings !

EarthMotherImNot · 11/08/2011 08:51

Thank you MAS and Sparkle Smile Had my bath and defluffed the pitsWink

Now if only I could stop shaking I'd be fineBlush

WhoremoaneeGrainger · 11/08/2011 09:38

Just thought i'd post you all an update.

Mum had the mammogram redone yesterday. The docs looked at it, and then told her that she has a mass in the same boob as before, and sent her off to have some biopsies taken. She thinks they took about 10 tissue samples. Someone will phone her next Tuesday afternoon, to give her the results and let her know what will happen next, if anything needs to happen.

So, a week of nail biting to come.

Hope you are all as well as you can be.

smee · 11/08/2011 10:07

Earth mother will be sending good vibes too. Must be a hard wait. 1.45's a killer of a time. Far better if these things are first thing.

WhoremoaneeG, sorry your mum's going through it all again. Must be scary for her. A week's a long time to worry. Let us distract you if we can.

Figgy, I hit a low after my op too. I think it's normal, not that that makes it any easier. Hope you're not feeling too uncomfortable today.

Kurri, my niece and nephew are nice human beings now, but we struggled with them for years. Let's hope your nephew will soon too.

Sparkle, can you do a film afternoon or something? They get to choose one thing each to watch. Make tickets/ popcorn on the cooker?? Sounds like you all need a lie down. Grin

Raining here, but DS has gainfully set off for tennis. He thinks they can still play, though I have my doubts. Bit annoying as it's their last session and they were getting quite good at it yesterday. ie actually hitting the ball. Grin

We're off at the weekend for two weeks in our second home. Wink Am suffering form a bad case of wee anxiety and am in a faff over which of my very thick jumpers to take.

topsyturner · 11/08/2011 10:10

Morning all .

earth - am sending you all my positive thoughts today . Let us know how it goes won't you ?

figgy - I had a fair bit of fluid around the drain site . The docs didn't want to drain it as it would have been another route for infection . It went down after a couple of weeks . Keep doing your exercises though , that's the most important thing . And by the way , getting my 2nd drain out hurt like a bastard !
As for the arm feeling funny , is it numb ? Mine was numb for a good month . I still have numb patches but the feeling has mostly returned .

Off to buy the first borns uniform for big school this afternoon , I shall probably cry Grin

topsyturner · 11/08/2011 10:13

smee - enjoy the 2nd home , I think you should take wellies too Grin

whoremoanee - I can't believe the waiting times , it's the hardest part isn't it ?

smee · 11/08/2011 10:18

Wellies. [Sob]

Go bawl, Topsy. Am sure I would. Smile

smee · 11/08/2011 10:20

Ooh and remember to get a really huge blazer that he can grow into, but makes him look like a munchkin. Grin

EarthMotherImNot · 11/08/2011 10:24

Thanks guys.

WhoremoaneeG my call back was in 4 days as well Shock

If I need biopsies done today do they hurt much (wimp emoticon)

KurriKurri · 11/08/2011 10:32

Earth, loads of good vibes for today, will be thinking of you Smile

Whoremoanee, - good luck also to your mum, and will be thinking of her on tuesday.

Figgy, - I'm sure I had quite few down moments after my op. It all gets a bit overwelming, and going through the chemo first will have left you pretty drained too. Fluid most likely will disperse, I had some too and it went on its own, but if it gets too uncomfortable you can get it drained.

topsy good luck with uniform shopping, - bless him, is he excited about big school?

Have a lovely holiday Smee, I think you will have to pack thick sweaters and shorts and vest tops, given the weather at the moment - that way you cover all bases Grin Encouraging to hear your niece and nephew eventually turned human Smile

Sparkle - youngest children have their own built in entertainment system with sibling, - I can just imagine your littlest DD laughing her head off at the soft toys Grin

Have a lovely day in London MAS, is DS taking photos of the buildings? (presumably with a borrowed camera after the sand incident!)

I'm off to yoga this afternoon, meanwhile there is a sink full of washing up with my name on it, which I'm trying to ignore.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 11/08/2011 10:36

x-posted Earth, - they will give you a local anaesthetic, - it is a little uncomfortable but more a sort of tugging sensation than painful, its fairly quick, but you will feel a bit bruised for a couple of days afterwards.

Good luck, prepare to be at the hospital for a while if they do a range of tests today (biopsy, ultrasound, consultation with doc. etc), there often a bit of waiting around. Is anyone going with you to keep you company?

OP posts:
topsyturner · 11/08/2011 10:37

earth - I barely felt anything when I had my biopsies . Had needle and core biopsies in my boob and armpit . Tiny prick for the local , which worked pretty quickly . Then the core biopsy felt like a bit of rummaging around while they get the right spot then a big click . But I felt no pain .

I am definitely going to make him wear a huge blazer , and a jumper that is like a maxi dress ! He will be wearing them in 6th form Grin

cakesandale · 11/08/2011 10:48

Dropping by dead quick to send all my best luck to Earth for this afternoon. And to hope for better days for WhoremoanG and Figgy. Keep hanging in there....

Back later. x
