Tada! A shiney new thread - get me with my fancy asterisks Grin

Hi amber welcome back, hope you had a lovely relaxing time Smile

SR - the thyroid is over active, and one of the symptoms is a racing heartbeat, so I've been given beta blockers to bring it down, so not a heart problems as such, just a by product of the thyroid nonsense! No caffiene because it makes heart rate faster, and no spicy food or hot drinks as they make the constant sweating worse. (actually I've already broken the hot drink/caffeine rule, - had a cup of tea Blush but put lots of milk in, and I'll get some de caf bags at the weekend.

Yes how is the weight loss, mine is down a little bit, due to the thyroid I presume, - certainly not due to any effort on my part. I'm glad you are making progress Cakes, - doesn't matter if its slow, you'll get there eventually Smile

Wonder if Figgy has had her op yet? I hope she sipping tea and munching a bit of toast and feeling relieved its out of the way Smile

Hello ! It's me on my phone from MIL's - very tricky to get hold of MN but I've missed you lot - hello to ILoveGEorgeCLooney and lots of love to Figgy x
Am ok and we're having a nice time - missing Celeste v much. Back on Sunday !

KurriKurri · 05/08/2011 21:47

Hello MAS Grin Glad you're having a good time, see you soon. Smile

FrameyMcFrame · 05/08/2011 22:49

Hi everyone, sending good wishes to Figgy!
DN saw Mum today and she also thinks it's wind due to the op. Also though it transpires that she hasn't had a poo since Sunday so I guess that might not be helping. Got her some Senna so hopefully that will solve the problem.
She's been across the road today helping her neighbour to look after her elderly Mum who lives with her... She helped lift her back into bed and cheered up neighbour who is at the end of her tether with her Mum who has dementia. Mum has offered to spend the day with the Mum tomorrow to give her a break. :) Funny thing is my Mum is actually older than neighbour's Mum. :)

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/08/2011 23:16

Waving back @ Framey ! Thanks KK for looking after new thread too ! Can't read all the posts so forgive me for missing out new news- hope SR had a good time in London

KurriKurri · 06/08/2011 10:50

Framey - good that its only wind, - although there's not much only about it - post op wind is very uncomfortable! Also the constipation is very common after ops, - I think everything kind of shuts down a bit, also you don't eat much and you aren't mobile. Dried apricots usually gets things moving for me.

Your mum sounds like a lovely person and good friend and neighbour, but she needs to be careful not to overdo things, (I'm thinking heavy lifting!). But I do understand how hard it is for her neighbour, my Dad has alzheimers and mum cares for him. Does the neighbour get any SS help with dressing/washing her mum? and they often have sitting schemes as well (mum has some one who comes in on Friday afternoons and chats to dad while she gets on with paperwork/bills etc.) definitely worth inquiring about all these things, in our experience they don't volunteer much information so people often don't know what help is available.

Hope Figgy is recovering well and will be home soon Smile

I've just tried to go swimming and been told that up until 11.40 it is 50m continuous lane swimming. -Don't think my very slow breast stroke quite fits that category Grin so going back later.

Spent last night putting songs onto my MP3 player with the idea that I'll go on some long walks and have something to listen to.

Also managed to trip over in the hallway last night, - and have a large impressive bruise on my leg and a flappy piece of skin hanging off my toe. V attractive Grin

According to cb figgy's doing fine(reported by junior figgy) so that's good news.
Poor KK's toe :-(
Last evening at MIL's - nice walk in between rain - her electric shower isn't working so looks like a cold one tomorrow ! Dh has sorted an electrician for her for tomorrow.

FrameyMcFrame · 06/08/2011 19:59

Hi folks. Continue to be worried about my Mum not eating and feeling sick and burping a lot Sad
It just doesn't seem to be improving and she looked ill today.
Not much I can do until Minday I guess.
Thanks Kk and MAS, hope you're both having a nice weekend. Bet you're looking forward to getting home MAS!

FrameyMcFrame · 06/08/2011 20:02

Sorry to hear about your Dad KK, no the neighbour is caring for her Mum alone. It's really hard for her! She's a lovely woman and has looked out for my Mum since she got ill.

sandripples · 06/08/2011 21:47

Hi, just thought I'd mention DH and I have been to see Sarah's kEY THIS EVENING. oNLY GO IF YOU ARE FEELING STRONG - IE NOT FOR THOSE UNDERGOING TREATMENT OR EMOTIONAL TRAUMA - BUT ITS EXCELLENT, i RECOMMEND IT.

Oops sorry about the capitals. The Independent did not give this film much of a review but DH and I both agreed on jow good it was. Its about a modern-day journalist researching into what happenend to a Jewish family in Paris, and interweaves the past and present. Its a 12A but I think it is too sad for anyone under 16 myself.

WhoremoaneeGrainger · 06/08/2011 22:21

Hi all.

Posted this in chat and was advised to bring it on over here. Basic story is this:

My wonderful Mum has been recalled following a mammogram. She has to have it redone and a biopsy taken. She only had it done last Tuesday, and received the letter today calling her back next week.

The mega bugger is that she had Grade 4 cancer in the same boob 9 years ago, and we all thought it was all over. Lymph nodes were clear, tumour cut out, had chemo and radiotherapy, went back for all follow-ups etc and was given the all clear after 5 years.

Bless her, she just said if its back, its back. I will do whatever i have to do. I beat it before and i will again.

Such a brave, special lady. Spent 20 years nursing my dad through ill-health, even when she was fighting her own battle.

Iknow there is a chance this could be nothing more than a cyst. But this is my beautiful, much loved mum! Im scared.

If this outs me, please dont say anything, especially to my DD, my mum is the only Nana she has (the only grandparent, actually). Please talk to me.

topsyturner · 06/08/2011 22:29

Hello and welcome .
Not going to tell you not to worry , cos you will . She's your mum , and cancer is bloody scarey .
I think the worse part is all the damn waiting .
I was fairly lucky (ha !) that I was mammgrammed , scanned , biopsied , and got results all on the same day . But I have sinced learned (from all the wonderful women on this board) that this is not always the case .

What ever the results for your mum , keep talking to us .
We offer cake Brew and copious amounts of gin/wine/what ever your poison is !

FrameyMcFrame · 06/08/2011 22:35

Hi sorry to hear about your Mum, I know how you feel, it's awfulSad
Try not to worry too much and take things step by step. If it is Cancer your Mum can get the treatment she needs to get well again. Good luck Smile

KurriKurri · 06/08/2011 23:12

Hello and welcome WG, as topsy and Framey have said, I won't tell you not to worry, of course you will.

Take things a day at a time at the moment, through the next few days and then for the appointment next week. Then you can deal with what you know.
Come on here and chat whenever you want it sometimes helps just to write the things that scaring you, and we can try to support you.

Good thoughts and wishes to your mum Smile

Framey - sorry your mum is still feeling bad, - if you are worried do phone the ward, will the DN be in again tomorrow. I wonder if pro biotic yogurts would settle her tummy a bit if she's up to eating something?

SR - that film sounds very interesting, I will see if its on round here. I'm glad you had a nice night out Smile

Framey - your mum's neighbour should definitely be entitled to SS help (washing, dressing, lifting. Plus any necessary equipment, wheelchair, special bed, raised toilet, etc etc) My dad has people come twice a day to get him up and in the evening to get him ready for bed. She's probably also eligible for benefits.

amberlight · 07/08/2011 09:48

WMG, heck re your mum. Hope we can be of some use for support through all of this for you.

Morning all. I'm trying not to think about chemo tomorrow, though with it being the last one of the 8 lots, I should be delighted.
Hospital have now mucked me about on the date I get to see the breast surgeon to discuss the surgery on 15 Sept. The appointment to see him is now the day after my birthday at 6.45 in the evening when I'll be really tired and so will he. Not very happy about this. I get more and more tired towards evening and start being unable to communicate scary things clearly. What is the point of going private through work health insurance if we're shunted into whatever happens to be available for the surgeon to fit in with his summer holidays? Shall be phoning his secretary and seeing whether this is in any way negotiable.

KurriKurri · 07/08/2011 11:39

amber - good luck for tomorrow, but Sad you are being messed around. I would definitely try to negotiate on the appointment. Mean while I would write down every single thing you can think of you want to discuss, at a time when you don't feel too wiped out, and take a list in with you, and get the surgeon to write down what he says so you don't miss anything.

Angry on your behalf - too much stress for you that you don't need.

cakesandale · 07/08/2011 12:21

WMG -welcome. This hasn't outed you to me, and I wouldn't say anything anyway. Promise.

Take it easy for now, and just try not to get too far ahead of things. i am hoping for a good outcome. They are ultra cautious at the clinic and call back if there is any doubt at all: many people turn out to be absolutely fine. but of course you are worried. Who wouldn't be? Sad

Glad to hear figgy is OK. Love to all.

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/08/2011 14:07

WMG welcome and so sorry that you are going through this anxiety - as others have said the breast clinic will be very thorough in their checking. I was recalled
acter my 2 yrs mammo as there was something suspicious - it turned out to be dense tissue-so with luck it 'll be similar for your mum
Sorry for brief post - am on M1 coming home

  • typing a bit tricky ! Lots of good thoughts to amber for tomorrow
pranma · 07/08/2011 17:34

I'm coming back too :)
My 'news' is that the oncologist discharged me 4 and a half years post dx despite being triple negative.there is some new research which seems to indicate that if yn people can get past 5 years it's most unlikely to recur.I was blown away by this but not quite ready to hang out the bunting just yet :)
I'm going to read everyone's posts and hope I can offer some support.

topsyturner · 07/08/2011 18:05

Hi pranma , pleased to meet you Grin

Do you mind me asking what "triple negative" means ?
I am fairly new to all of this , so not quite up on the terminology .

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/08/2011 18:08

welcome back pranma - that's encouraging news though- at our hosp. we are discharged after 3 years -it all varies around the country.
Am now back home -hooray ! though it was v nice and MIL loved having us there. Her shower is fixed (was a loose connection in on/off switch) which is a relief. Celeste was poorly while we were away- sick several times- kind parents took her to the vet and she was given antibiotics and stress medicine- mum reckons she was upset by our being away.
Hope everyone is ok- Figgy especially and of course amber.

sandripples · 07/08/2011 19:04

WMG - sorry to hear about your mum. Its so difficult having to wait before you all know what you are dealing with. Your mum sounds very strong, and I wish you both well.

A friend here who was DX a few months before me (from a swollen arm - that was her first symptom) is back in hospitaL so I'm going to see her tomorrow. I am so very grateful for screeening - my BC was picked up via mammogram screening and at least that tends to mean it is found early - I am a strong supporter! The ealiest its found the better - no matter that there are some false positives, its a life saving programme. WMG - its good that your mum's been checked up via a mammogram even though I know it's worrying for you.

I thought that Radio 4 programme was interesting when suggesting that women with any genetic predisposition to BC might have screening at a younger age. Sounds a good idea?

Amber - hope you can get your appt moved to a better time of day.

MAS - poor Celeste! Oralndo is learning to deal witha big thug of a cat who is stalking him round our garden - he nips into the house too, grrr.

sandripples · 07/08/2011 19:06

Sorry I forgot to say hi and welcome back to Pranma - that's good news!

sandripples · 07/08/2011 19:11

O yes also forgot to reply about my weight - funny that. Well I got stuck after losing just over a stone basically. Think I got bored and started to binge a bit....as is my wont....but I'm still a bit more than a stone lighter than at end of treatment which is good.

Am making a renewed effort as I'm on leave and I find it so much easier to be active when not at work. Also I know I eat to compensate stress at work .... I need to reprogramme myself about this... overeating does not help.... it is abusing my body.....I need to keep focussed on eating healthily and reasonable portions.....this is me trying to reprogramme myself...I can be pleased today because I've been swimming AND cut the hedge AND had a short walk AND eaten healthily .......how much have you lost Cakes? I bet you're doing well. I've paid at Slimming World for up to October so will be focussed.
