Tada! A shiney new thread - get me with my fancy asterisks Grin

Ooh Pink, that seroma draining sounds vicious. Hope it subsides soon. Should do from memory.

Happy Anniversary Topsy. Am always impressed when people remember - I don't even know the date of ours. Blush I have a private stash of co-codamols too. Top drug of choice round here. What time's the appointment tomorrow? Hope it's early so you don't have to stew.

Cakes, I was told to try and swim lots before my back op. Worth a go if you can as it's so good for strengthening the core muscles.

Kurri, your i-Spy book's filling up though arguably that's not a good thing. Must be quite reassuring to have a label though - is it something they can keep on an even keel? That clip's made me giggle, though DS has just asked what the dog's doing. Confused

Had a ridiculously frustrating morning. Spent an hour and a half waiting for my surgeon only to be told that she hadn't arrived, as her flight from a conference had been delayed. G'ah.. Lovely BC Nurse took me off for a natter and confided that it looks like my op will be bumped back by 3 weeks anyway. Not the end of the world - I think I might even be relieved to have a bit longer, but still. She's going to call the Surgeon and then let me know what's what. Going to see baby Theo later (MAS they are friends with excellent taste!) Can't wait. Smile

KurriKurri · 06/09/2011 14:52

Grrr for frustrating morning, I hope they sort out your date and let you know soon Smee, so you can plan round it.

Lucky you seeing little Theo, - Its ages since I had a chance to cuddle a proper tiny newborn baby.

topsy toffee popcorn sandwich would be a good compromise Grin

topsyturner · 06/09/2011 15:29

Hope you get a date soon smee , or even get to see a surgeon !
Love the name Theo , was on my list for if DD was DS .

kk ??? Popcorn sandwich ? Are you mad ? Everyone knows you put pocorn on ciabatta ! Grin

Have made Mamas Marvelous Meatballs for dinner . Have also knocked up a batch of dough for garlic bread .
Still not managed to get any lunch yet though .
Think it might be a bit too late now .......

cakesandale · 06/09/2011 15:31

That's interesting about the swimming smee. I wonder if even my girly breast stroke counts? I do like a nice swim though so I'll bear that in mind.

I am sorry you have had a fruitless morning, and you may be knocked back but then, a delay might be nice.

Enjoy the baby in the meantime.

smee · 06/09/2011 15:39

Cakes, girly breast stroke definitely counts. I do that one too. Grin Another thing they told me to do, was just to go and walk in the water, as apparently even a little bit of resistance strengthens the core muscles.

Topsy you've made dough for garlic bread?! Shock I have just bought some, as ds loves it. [inadequate mummy Blush]

amberlight · 06/09/2011 15:44

I do a good impression of someone sinking when I try to swim. Never have properly mastered the art of it.
Love the tales of the dogs!
Pink, eek and double eek!
Topsy, that's Very Naughty of you to suggest nakedness! Never do it to me - I'd believe you! Blush Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/09/2011 15:53

excellent name choice ! (have just done a picture for a brand new baby Theo too)
Bah about surgeon, but can understand bit of relief about it being put back a bit- I'd be the same-I quite like a bit of putting off.
Am back early from picking up S from school - we got home to theirs and then her friend from over the road asked her to play so I was redundant - rang to tell her mum (who has brought me some nice French marmalade from their hols) Ds seemed miffed that I was back so soon (though how would if effect him as he's shut up in his room anyway)
Your meatballs and garlic bread sound very yum topsy...

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/09/2011 15:54

actually I think breast stroke is a pretty good one for lots of muscles,if you think about it

cakesandale · 06/09/2011 16:12

I suppose it is, really. I'd better go and do some, then. I shall go later in the week.

And MAS, you should know that stroppy teenagers need the whole house to themselves, even if they never venture past the bedroom door.

Meatballs and garlic bread does sound nice. God knows what we will have

On the upside I have finished my rush job. Hoo - flippin - ray!!!!! I and my design guy have worked all weekend and into the night last night on it, even though he has been having surgical treatment for skin cancer Shock: it went to press half an hour ago. All that work and dedication, and I bet it takes at least four months before they bother to cough up for it Hmm

I have been ignoring all work emails that didn't relate to it: I now have 54 awaiting my attention Shock

SparkleRainbow · 06/09/2011 16:15

You are going to be busy cakes....have a Brew before you start it is fortifying! Grin

cakesandale · 06/09/2011 16:45

Slurp!

topsyturner · 06/09/2011 17:30

Dough for garlic bread is not that impressive .
Take 500g of flour , 1 sachet of powdered yeast , 3/4 spoons of oil , aprox 200ml of warm water , a spoon of salt .
Bung em all in bowl and mix together .
Cover with tea towel and ignore for 1 hour .
Knead it .
Roll it out into flatbreads .
cover with melted butter and garlic .

Use same recipe for pizza bases .
Costs pennies , I am a tight git Grin

KurriKurri · 06/09/2011 17:36

they sound really yummy topsy, I love garlic bread (actually I'll happily eat any variety of flat bread)

I have just been out to pick some veg from the garden and discovered my little yellow courgettes are now big yellow marrows. - Stuffed marrow tomorrow I think. Grin

Tonight is lentil loaf, roast sweet potatoes, marrow courgettes and beans from the garden. - I nearly got blown over by the wind out there!

OP posts:
smee · 06/09/2011 17:39

I'm a tight git too, but am still impressed Topsy. Grin

DH running late and visiting time's only 'til 7, so I might not get to see baby Theo today after all. Having such a frustrating day. Grrr...

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/09/2011 18:23

grrr for smee..
my MIL thinks garlic is hateful -tried it once and didn't like it, not sure she realises it's probably in loads of stuff she eats.
Love stuffed marrow too KK or with cheese sauce.
Well done Cakes- always a relief to get things done, would you like a snackerel to go with the Brew before your next task ?

SparkleRainbow · 06/09/2011 18:27

My grandmother used garlic in every cooked dish I can think of her cooking, but never told her DH as he "hated" garlic......he loved her cooking Grin

Sorry you won't get to see the gorgeoud baby Theo today smee, may be tomorrow.

We are having sweetcorn from the garden tonight.....not sure what with.....more sweetcorn probably Grin

KurriKurri · 06/09/2011 18:30

My sweetcorn is looking a bit sorry for itself Sparkle, I think it could have done with more sunshine. My mother panics at the very thought of garlic too Grin

DH has just picked up my new tablets from the docs. and they are in a little brown glass bottle, no information leaflet or anything - bit odd Confused

OP posts:
topsyturner · 06/09/2011 19:52

Maybe DH has got you some "special" tablets kk ?
Has he got you to sign any new life insurance policies recently ? Grin

Wish I had a veg patch . Pig/dog tends to uproot most things growing in our garden . My sister in law grows tomatoes in hanging baskets and potatoes in dustbins etc . So maybe I should try that ?

Foul night here in Belfast . Wind is blowing a gale out there . I have actually turned the heating on !

Right , off to stuff the kids in a bath .
Then it's time to relax with a big mug of Brew .
Left over garlic bread anyone ?

smee · 06/09/2011 20:49

Phew, DH arrived just as I was beginning to despair, so I ran all the way to the hospital and managed to see the adorable Theo. So very extraordinary always to see a new born, I never quite get over the amazement. Smile

Excellent Cakes on getting that work done. Hope your collaborator's okay. Skin cancer's scary stuff.

My mother's not convinced by garlic either. She told me they don't have it in Birmingham (where they live), which let's face it, seems a little unlikely. Grin

Grim night here too. Blowing a gale and buckets of rain. Glad I'm home. Off to ferret round the freezer for something to eat in a bit.

Hope you're okay tomorrow, Topsy. Will be thinking of you x

smee · 06/09/2011 20:51

Kurri, Topsy might be right. Make DH try one of your tablets first. Grin

KurriKurri · 06/09/2011 21:09

I should make him try one, they are odd little peachy coloured things (like a small version of those mini refresher sweeties you get in lucky bags).

I'm glad you got to see the baby Smee, - I bet your friend is just on cloud nine with her tiny boy Smile

Well done with finishing the work Cakes, but sorry to hear your designer is ill.

Good luck tomorrow topsy, - will be thinking of you xx

EarthMotherImNot · 07/09/2011 06:10

Good morning allSmile Well its here, the big day has arrived. I have to be at hospital for 7.45 am Shock

I'll update when I'm home xxx

topsyturner · 07/09/2011 07:11

earth - you have probably gone already , but wanted to wish you all the very best for today . I am sending you positive thoughts , and I know you will be ok .
Very un-mumsnetty hugs x

I am off shortly myself , but its only a scan so should be back mid morning for Brew and cake Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/09/2011 07:30

Earth lots of good thoughts to you xxxx
and topsy xxx

cakesandale · 07/09/2011 09:25

Earth - it's all crossed. Thinking of you x

Glad you got to see Theo, smee.

KK - hope the new tablets are OK.

I am very impressed by all the veg being grown and consumed - we used to have a large veg plot but it was too much so now it is all lawn. So I am very grateful for the beans and courgettes we are getting from more industrious neighbours at the mo. There's nothing like fresh beans. We reciprocate with apples, of which we have masses. Seems to be a good year for them as well.

Our designer is OK, I think. A few weeks ago he had a mole that was getting bigger and went to get it checked - they insisted on getting it off instantly Shock He went back yesterday to have it confirmed that it was the worst kind of skin cancer (melanoma? not sure) but was mercifully only shallow. Nonetheless, they have cut a wide-ish additional sliver of skin from wrist to elbow - double Shock - just to be certain. Poor guy. I bet that stings. Sunhats and sunblock all the way for him now, I imagine.
