Tada! A shiney new thread - get me with my fancy asterisks Grin

Also lighting a candle MAS, have a peaceful day xx

I agree with acknowledging and remembering our loved ones we have lost. I am not a religious person, so in my mind the way people live on, is in the memories and hearts of those who love them.

I hope everyone else has had a good day.

DH is persistantly falling asleep, so I have to keep bodging him. He was stopped by customs in Canada and asked if he was working on biological weapons, then if he had any biological weapons in his suitcase. He said no to both, (obviously) - but as he said, if he did have a case full of weapons, he'd probably lie about it. Grin

Off to look at Boden vest tops Smile

Bit of an update on my watery eye in case anyone can remember it at all - it turns out to be a bit embarrassing really. Five days in, and with both eyes sore, swollen and red from all the drops I was putting in case it was an infection, it turns out I have an eyelash in my eye Blush Two days later it is still not quite right, but certainly better than it was. perhaps it is as well I couldn't get a doc's appointment, I think she would have been quite stern.

Poor dh, KK. I remember coming back from Canada and being incapable of staying awake myself. It's horrible.

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/09/2011 17:15

thank you KK Smile
Grin @ dh with a caseful of biological weapons !
Am glad to hear that your eye is sorted Cakes - eyelashes are very pesky and hurt like mad if stuck in your eye (especially under a contact lens) Dh has been to the docs with an eyelash stuck in his eye Smile

smee · 03/09/2011 18:15

Ooh, that does sound sore, Cakes. Glad you're heading back to normal eyes now though.

I like that verb, Kurri: 'Bodge'. what's your implement of choice, for bodging DH then? Grin

MAS I think everyone's right about not pushing memory and recollection out. You do sound like you handle it all well. Hope you're okay though. I will drink a small toast to you and your brother later. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/09/2011 19:25

aw,thanks smee Smile

topsyturner · 03/09/2011 20:02

topsy is very jealous that cakes has eyelashes to get stuck in her eyes Grin

smee · 03/09/2011 20:06

Have they gone already, Topsy? I hated that - not sure why, but brows and lashes going hit me hard. I think I lost mine on about chemo 4 though, so later than you. Sad

KurriKurri · 03/09/2011 20:08

Eyelashes are sore Cakes - it may have scratched your eye a little bit. (I had some good stuff I got from the chemist for sore eyes, called lacrilube childish snigger, it soothed my scratched eye straight away.)

I usually grab whatever is to hand for bodging purposes Grin - cushion, teatowel, fist boot.

He's a bit chirpier now though, he and DD are watching a lottery quiz show which DD has described as 'like numberwang, but sillier' (if anyone watched Mitchell and Webb, you'll know what that means Grin) They are both shouting 'that's numberwang' at the TV now.

No , not all of them smee . But a large proportion .
A lovely friend of mine brought me round some eyebrow pencils (she works for Clinique) and I have been practicing with them .
Haven't quite managed the full on Drag Queen look yet though Grin

Excuse me whilst I go Bodge DH . No reason , just fancied trying the latest craze !
Hmmmm , what shall I bodge him with ?
Pokey stick ?
Toaster ?
Fire poker ?

pinkstarlight · 03/09/2011 20:54

topsy..ha ha im also jealous of cakes lashes, want my eye lashes back so i can wear mascara again.

i remember feeling gutted when i lost my eyebrows and having terrible time with pencils trying to get the right shade with being blond, the good thing is that they grew back really quickly.

my daughter has gone back to her uni town for a few days after being here for the last few weeks, then she will be back for a few days then back again to start her second year of uni.already the house seems very quiet.

topsyturner · 04/09/2011 09:54

Morning all

What are we all up to today ?
We are off to Grannys , as usual , for Sunday lunch .
DH took the DC to last nights vigil mass , so no church for us this morning .
Consequently the DC are still in bed .
Not surprising really for DD as she was at 2 parties (one at a climbing wall !) , then the park , then her friends house , yesterday !

Whilst DD was at her afternoon party my lovely friend took me for lunch .
2 hours of eating , gossiping , and no little voices shouting "muuuuuum"
T'was bliss . Had salt and pepper squid with sweet chilli dipping sauce and garlic mayo . And the sweetest little silver bucket with chips in them !

Time to go upstairs and "do a topsy"
Sunny day , oh what to wear ...........

KurriKurri · 04/09/2011 10:05

Have a lovely day topsy. Lunch yesterday sounds great.

I am Envy of your DD's social life.

Wear something summery while there is still some sun around (it is cold here)

DD and I are going for a long walk this afternoon, weather permitting.

Hope everyone else has a good day. Smile

Can I direct you to a thread in health called 'avoiding metal in creams',? the OP (Iamseeingstars) is starting chemo soon and is asking for info. - I wasn't too sure, but those who have had chemo more recently might have a better idea than me Smile

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 04/09/2011 11:51

On the bright side I have had gorgeous, well I think so, long curly black eyelashes since they grew back, and I am ginger!

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 04/09/2011 11:53

Sorry posted too soon, was told by the chemo nurse this is quite common, saves a fortune in mascara.

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/09/2011 12:18

lashes sound sumptuous ILGC Smile will they stay black ?
Lunch sounds so delicious yesterday topsy - am starving !
It is seriously peeing with rain here- grey but warm -miserable.

smee · 04/09/2011 12:23

Topsy, I want to come to lunch. Been years since I had a proper Sunday dinner. Smile

Kurri, I've posted on the other thread though am not sure I was much help.

ILGC, your lashes sound lovely - mine are still a bit thin, though at least they're back, which is always a plus.

Off out now, and later I have a huge treat, as I managed to get some tickets to see Kevin Spacey's Richard III at Old Vic. Got horribly cheap tickets, but still am sure it will be amazing.

Wishing you all a lovely Sunday. Smile

KurriKurri · 04/09/2011 13:00

Smee - you lucky thing Envy I love Richard III and I love Kevin Spacey. Have a great time.

ILGC - your lashes do sound good, how did your head hair return? - Mine used to be darkish and curly, and has come back grey and straight Angry, but a couple of friends who had straight hair pre chemo are now sporting seventies perm hair. Grin

I have started dieting in earnest, - rice cakes for lunch here

Am giggling at the term "bodging". We call it "bommyknocking". I don't recall which book it was in, but DS1 had a book from school when he was little where giants carried bommyknockers.

My lashes and eyebrows went after the fourth or fifth cycle. I never had many lashes or brows to begin with so am hoping for bushy regrowth. My hair is coming back grey, mind you the brown was out of a bottle. It is about 3/4" long at the moment and today, for the first time, I went out wigless and scarfless. I wore lovely dangly earrings and a bit of make-up so I wouldn't look too butch. No-one laughed or stared so that's made me feel a bit better but not sure what to do about school next week. Decisions, decisions.

Your lunch out sounds lovely Topsy. Have you got sun? Lucky thing. It's pouring down here. The bbq is on hold and we're going for Plan B -roast chicken.

Enjoy The Old Vic, Smee.

Pink, put a loud CD on and have a singsong. That'll make you feel better about the quiet house. Always works for me. Not sure the neighbours approve though. Grin

Cakes, glad your eye has cleared up now.

I don't know if I said but I went to a chiropodist yesterday. She's lovely and has tried her best - my feet are looking lovely now, except one of my big toe nails was coming off and she's managed to cut it down so now I have half a nail and some of the other nails are going the same way. Shock I am just going to put some polish on and try to disguise them.

cakesandale · 04/09/2011 15:51

Oops, sorry, my talk of excess eyelashes probably was a touch insensitive. Sorry. Losing the lashes and brows is almost worse than losing the hair on your head for some reason, but hold on tight y'all, because ILGC is right, they come back fast, and thick and gorgeous, at least usually they do. Sometimes they only come back the same as before, but even that is delicious when it happens.

KK. Rice cakes. Is that wise? It's so hair shirt. you'll never stick to it. Could you not get a tastier diet? I'm still on mine and my lunch was some smoked salmon I bought cheap and have had in the freezer, a big bowl of salad leaves and a bit of dressing and it was GORGEOUS! Mind you, the weight loss progress is...um....sedate. But at least you can keep it up.

Smee. I hope you have a terrific time with Dick 3 and Kev. I am very Envy and that's not a sick face from eating too many leaves, it's real out and out envy.

I did have a look at the thread about metal in creams but it rings no bells with me, so I have no advice to offer

cakesandale · 04/09/2011 15:54

Cross post figgy. WOOHOO for your first outing without a scarf. Good for you. When I took mine off I just went cold turkey, it was so nice not to have to bother. Whatever you decide, it won't be long now until you are back with a full head of hair and just not thinking about it. How fab. Smile

KurriKurri · 04/09/2011 16:02

It is a bit hair shirt Cakes, although I do like ricecakes. I will do a nice healthy shop tomorrow and get myself stuff to make nice salads with.

Have just got back from a long walk with the dog. Half way round (its a circular walk round fields) it started to pour with rain, so we all got soaked. So now I'm in my PJ's, with a big mug of tea, and I'm going to put my feet up and watch Vertigo, with the lovely James Stewart, on ITV3

pinkstarlight · 04/09/2011 17:06

ilovegeorgeclooney...wow lucky you,i wish mine would hurry up and grow back.

figgy...my hair is starting to grow back was originally blonde, still cant decide if its growing back grey or blond as its growing back very fair.good for you to brave going out with out covering your head im such a coward i decided months ago my wig stays put till my hair is the same lenght as my wig.i lost all my finger and toenails but the funny thing was new nails pushed the old nails out, my fingernails now look like i badly bite them so really they are growing back quite quick but have ridges in them but toenails seem very slow growing back.

its been a really nice day here quite warm or that might just be my hot flushes.house is not so quiet today my 15 and 12 year old have made sure of that, would love to know why kids shout.

amberlight · 04/09/2011 18:58

Why do they shout? Because they can. Grin

My hair is now nearly 2 ins long under my wig, but still quite thin and still very grey Hmm

Good day though. Church, friend for a cuppa, out to sort out FineLad's phone crisis, then over to Henley with dh for a walk and a pizza. So good to have some energy back.

topsyturner · 04/09/2011 19:01

Well I spoke too soon , the rain has hit !
I put on black skinny jeans , black vest , lilac mid sleeve cardy , and lilac scarf .
And now I am bloody cold !

Ah well , soon be time to get my jim-jams on Grin

Ooooh , Richard III , lucky you .
Last theatre I saw was (apart from DS end of year performance of Cinderella Rockafella) was a play entitled "An Evening With George" . It was very good , but full of Belfast humour . And you kind of had to be a local to appreciate a lot of it .

So , has anyone tried false lashes ?
I have tried them before , even pre cancer .
Hmm , wonder if the Look Good course I am going on next month will have any in the kit they give you ?

Sunday Evening snack time .
Tonight I am mostly eating Tesco Finest Honey Gammon crisps and a LARGE bar of Galaxy Grin

Oh and lunch at Grannys was roast ham and all the trimmings , followed by apricot tart tatin and ice cream . Yum !
