Tada! A shiney new thread - get me with my fancy asterisks Grin

Well I had mad red curly hair before it fell out and now I have even madder red curly hair! But it is in lovely condition!
I thought Richard III was amazing but enjoyed Much Ado with David Tennant more, a flashback to a misspent 80's youth!
Back at work tomorrow after 7 weeks holidays and dreading the 6am alarm. DD2 starts 6th Form and has just, about 30 mins ago started the summer's induction tasks. I am afraid she isn't a typical Mumsnet child, they all appear much more diligent. DS however has polished and hoovered his car, passed his test at end of July, so looking forward to driving to school and successfully winding up his little sister by claiming he won't give her a lift. I don't normally drink on a school night but maybe ........

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/09/2011 21:09

good luck tomorrow ILGC
lunch sounds gorgeous topsy - slobber ! (though dh made liver and bacon for supper which was magnificent- though I now have to clear up !)
Ds not back until Wednesday (for an hour and a half- some exam skills thing being taught) but I am collecting my charge from her school on Tuesday..will be v nice to see her.
Haven't been to theatre for years - am not a huge theatre fan really though have seen some good stuff in the past. Might have to brush up though as ds is taking Drama as a GCSE.
I once wore false lashes for a 70s party but they soon came adrift !
KK - a huge salad takes quite a bit of munching through- you could add some seeds and whatnot. I also quite like ricecakes.

topsyturner · 05/09/2011 09:46

Ok , that's both the DC at school .
Slight blip with DS when he phoned me crying from the bus stop (thank God for mobiles eh ?) thinking he had missed his bus .
Once I explained to him that they come every 7 minutes and that the cousins he was meeting were on the next bus , he calmed down . I had to stay on the phone with him though till he got on his bus !
Anyhow , drama over , he texted me to tell me he was in school Grin

Now what to do with myself today ?
I have never been at home without my DC or without any mindees .
I have already hoovered and washed the floors , emptied the tumble dryer , put another load on to wash .
Am defrosting some beef for tonights dinner . Going to make beef stew and dumplings , crappy weather here so feel the need for comfort food .

Having new stairs and upstairs hall carpet fitted tomorrow , so will have to clear all the assorted crap that has accumulated on the stairs today . DH is ripping up the old carpet tonight .

I am rambling , by the way , as I have my repeat CT scan first thing on Wednesday morning . This is the one to see if my lung secondaries have changed at all with the past 3 chemos .
Part of me is expecting to hear that there has been a miracle and they have all gone .
Somehow I doubt it though .
Won't get the results till I see my Onc on next Monday though .

So please bare with me till then , I am going to be awfully waffly Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/09/2011 11:16

waffle away topsy- we are here Grin
So glad that ds got to school ok - bless him.
Am off to post 2 parcels with pictures and get something for our lunch.

SparkleRainbow · 05/09/2011 11:46

Topsy, you can feel free to waffle with me anytime. How exciting to have new carpets....I can dream Grin

dc not back until Wednesday here, then what will I do just dd2 and me....she will miss ds and dd1 so much, I think the days are going to drag for her. Dd1 plays with her all the time, and mothers her, fetches and carries for her, cuddles her better, gets her up from naps...I have to say at this point she asks to do all of these things and gets upset if I "interfere" Grin Dd1 is only just 6 herself.

KurriKurri · 05/09/2011 13:44

Aww - bless your DS topsy, - it's things like getting the bus when they haven't done it before that throw them. Of course after the first year they are completely blase about it all, and dash out of the house at the last minute, piece of toast hanging out of the mouth, and leg it for the bus. (or is that just my kids? Grin) Hope he has a happy day Smile

Loads of luck for wednesday, and good vibes coming your way, waffle to your hearts content, meanwhile Brew and rice cake.

It must feel quite weird not having the DC or mindees in the house, and it will be strange for your DD2 Sparkle with no big brother and sister during the day.

I had a nice yoga class this morning, very relaxing, my new hair do was admired, apparently it makes me look 'cheeky' - I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not Grin

I have my endocrinologist appointment tomorrow, and I'm suddenly feeling a bit nervous about it. Worried they are going to find something horrid . Oh well, it'll be good to get it over with.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 05/09/2011 13:58

cheeky hairdo-think that's to be taken as a compliment KK Grin lots of luck for appointment -will be thinking of you.
I am feeling guilty as I am just spending money carelessly- my own,not from household account, but even so- today I ordered a book,a nice fleecy blanket for Celeste and a Francoise Hardy cd- I tend to spend money on bits and pieces which do add up, yet seem small at the time.

topsyturner · 05/09/2011 14:10

Cheeky is ALWAYS good kk
Any pics of said cheeky haircut ?
And loads of positive vibes for tomorrows appointment .

MAS - you spend away , it does you good . I have been downloading loads of free books onto my kindle . All the fun of buying new books , without spending a penny !

My friend just came round and took me out for lunch . So I am now nicely full of chicken pad-thai .
Really don't feel like doing the ironing now Grin maybe it can wait till tomorrow ?

Got to pick up DD from school in 20 minutes so it's hardly worth getting the ironing board out , is it ............... ?

KurriKurri · 05/09/2011 14:16

ooh Francoise Hardy - tres bonne Grin, lovely singer and she has that sixties beauty too, kind of innocent yet knowing.

I will make you feel less guilty by revealing I bought new slippers today, and some dusky pink trackie pants for yoga, and some rather nice blackcurrant fruit spread from the health store - to spread on my rice cakes Grin

Hmm how do you get the accent to work on a keyboard?, I've got one, but can't seem to co ordinate it with the letter Confused

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 05/09/2011 14:18

oops x posted topsy - I'll see if I can get DH to take a photo tonight, and then scare you all with it Grin

definitely NO to ironing Grin - 20 mins.= just time for a Brew

OP posts:
smee · 05/09/2011 14:52

Kurri, have you found corn cakes - like rice cakes, but far more tasty imo and most delicious with cream cheese and marmite. Smile

Dashing in as ever, but will catch up with all waffling later. Though Topsy honestly never apologise for waffling. I haven't got scary CT scans on going and I waffle all the time. Grin

RIII was fantastic. KS went for comedy monster approach, which he pulled off with his usual panache, but I kind of thought in doing so he missed the pathos by a mile. Hugely entertaining though and v.v.good.

ILGC, am jealous you got to see the DT Hamlet - tickets had gone before they were even on sale. Are you a Londoner too?

No time, as am running out with DS to the park to meet his friend, but I have just had the most fantastic news, as BF has had her baby this morning. She's the lovely soul who was there every inch with me through chemo and all other BC grimness last year. I am so, so happy for them. Smile

KurriKurri · 05/09/2011 15:08

How lovely Smee, congratulations to her - little boy or little girl?

I will look out for corncakes, -haven't tried them before.

Even more Envy about RIII now you've described it.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 05/09/2011 15:49

ooh, lovely news smee ! and glad that Richard 111 was cracking ! I did see Daniel Day Lewis being Hamlet at the NT (before he went loopy)
Corncakes are nice- have had those, probably more popcornish than rice cakes.
KK - can't figure out to do accents either !

cakesandale · 05/09/2011 15:55

Well if you are on a MAC and you are in Word, you don't type in the letter to be accented, you go to Insert in your toolbar, click on symbols, and a load of accented letters should come up. You pick the one you want.

KurriKurri · 05/09/2011 16:06

I'm not on a MAC Cakes, , why have I got an accent on my keyboard (on the key underneath esc.) and I can't use it?

I will ask DD, - she likes an opportunity to give me her pitying look Grin

OP posts:
topsyturner · 05/09/2011 16:15

The boy is home , and he survived the day .
Loved science , hated P.E Grin

Do you have a button with a blue "Fn" written on it kk ?
If you hit that on my laptop that lets me use the accent .
I am on DS Dell lappy .

KurriKurri · 05/09/2011 16:24

I've got that button topsy, but I can't get it over the letter, I just end up with tres, or tres or something similar. I am probably doing something very elementary wrong.

I'm glad DS survived the day, - now he's got PE under his belt everything else will seem good Grin

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 05/09/2011 16:25

I should add the occasions on which I need to use poncy French words are fairly few Grin

OP posts:
topsyturner · 05/09/2011 16:48

Aaaaaargh , I can't get it to go in the right place either !
Ok techno wizards - heeeeeeeelp Grin

KurriKurri · 05/09/2011 16:57

Oh no topsy, - you've caught 'mad old woman who can't use a keyboard' off me Grin Grin ,

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 05/09/2011 18:17

hooray for junior topsy !
will ask dh about accents - am on a Mac but not on word

topsyturner · 05/09/2011 18:28
smee · 05/09/2011 21:33

[ducks from techo-void], though it's possibly already grabbed me, as I can't find accents either. Confused

Glad your boy survived his first whole day, Topsy. Must be a huge relief he's started and it's all okay. So sweet to hear about him upset at the bus stop. I did something similar when I started secondary - no mobiles then (dinosaur!), so I had to sob solo. I caught the bus in the wrong direction and got myself hopelessly lost!

My friend has had a boy - we've known for ages it was a he. She's had 3 miscarriages so he's extraordinarily precious. When I was diagnosed she was just newly pregnant via IVF, but lost it quite early on. We used to joke our lives were like bad chick lit. Am going to see her tomorrow, but weirdly have an appointment at same hospital first thing with my surgeon to discuss my op, which is next week - I know I chose it, but still eek..

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/09/2011 21:59

oh smee- that's soon ! you'll need lots of sustaining cake.

cakesandale · 05/09/2011 22:34

Oh smee, eek indeed. Cake, wine

Very pleased to about your friend's little boy though, what a nice start to the week.

For the record I also can't do accents on here. Only in word.
