Tada! A shiney new thread - get me with my fancy asterisks Grin

OP posts:
sandripples · 24/08/2011 21:22

Crikey Topsy - poor you. I have a friend who thought she was feeling fine after 1st chemo then had a similar (although worse as it was diorrhea) experience in her jeans. I heard this from her before my chemo started so was extremely cautious and just came home each time until session number 6 or so. By then I was on a milder type of regime and had got the hang of it.

Still - wonderful that you got the dress! I couldn't have shopped after chemo, esp after one of those ghastly vein stabbing sessions. All sympathies. How many more have you got to go? Wouldn't you like a central line? It takes away all that hassle with the veins so if they've flattened out it would be worth considering if you still have alot of sessions to have. I loved my line.

Just popping in really - hi to all. Cakes and other writers - I'm excited as my DD has an interview and test for writing job tomorrow.....at least she's got an interview. Fingers crossed.

topsyturner · 24/08/2011 21:48

Good luck to DD for tomorrow sands .

And eek for your friend .
At least mine wasn't quite that bad Grin

Am feeling much better now the anti sickness pump has kicked in .
Will make sure I check next time .

Don't know how many more sessions I am going to need .
Today was my 3rd session , and I will have another CT scan on the 7th of September .
Then will have a meeting with my consultant to discuss the results of that (whether it has had any affect on my lung mets) and decide further treatment from there .

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/08/2011 23:05

yikes topsy but the dress sounds fabby ! Glad you're feeling a bit better now.
Lots of good luck to dd SR Smile
The boy has announced that he'll wait for his RS results to come in the post -grrrr.

Hope you are feeling calm amber and loads of good vibes for you tomorrow and of course to figgy xxx

SparkleRainbow · 25/08/2011 08:59

Oh Topsy, how horrid for you, I am glad you weren't wearing light fabric trousers! Angry about your driver! How can they forget to turn it on !!!!!

I am glad you were feeling better by then end of the day, hope you had a good night.

MAS it is official, he has become "cool", to cool to identify his friends and way too cool to go and pick up his results Sad

cakesandale · 25/08/2011 09:06

Cool he may now be, but how the hell can he WAIT for the post? He must either be made of steel, or be a teenager Sad

Topsy. Oh dear. It could have been worse, as SR says. I think it does happen occasionally on chemo, I have heard of it before. I don' t think it means a lifetime of incontinence though. just wear a liner on the next treatment day to be safe. Good on you for dress shopping in those circs, tho'.

SR - fingers firmly crossed for your dd.

amberlight · 25/08/2011 09:33

Topsy, blimey, but yes, similar eek moments here with chemo - think it's more common than people realise.
I'm feeling very calm today. Not sure why. Will let you know what fiendish plans Mr Surgeon has.

cakesandale · 25/08/2011 10:07

Good luck amber! Glad you are calm.

Will be waiting for news with Brew

topsyturner · 25/08/2011 10:26

So much good luck to you amber . Let us know how it goes .

MAS - what time does your postie get to your house ? Ours doesn't arrive till midday , so I would be dragging the DC down to the school at the crack of dawn !!!

Feeling a bit better today . Slept till about 6am , had a potter about and saw DH off to work . Went back to sleep for another couple of hours !
Got district nurses coming round today to restock my meds .
Apart from that , I think I will be having an extremely lazy day today . Still feeling a bit mentally drained after yesterday .

Thanks for letting me know that its not just me that has peed herself on chemo before . Its always good to hear that you are not the only nutter about Grin

KurriKurri · 25/08/2011 11:04

loads of luck for today amber - I hope it all goes well for you Smile

topsy - the dress sounds lovely, but Sad about the peeing incident. But you are definitely not the only one, remember you had a lot of extra liquid pumped into you yesterday for one thing. I had an incident of the poo variety on chemo - luckily I was at home, but I think you just have to abandon all pretence to dignity. Smile

Have a Brew and a strawberry bon bon Smile (I accidentally did my supermarket shop before my meal last night and a few sweet found their way into the trolley Blush)

MAS - your boy sounds very laid back, I remember my DS waiting for his in the post - he said he didn't want to be surrounded by people either gloating or crying when he opened them Grin

Fingers crossed for you DD's interview SR, - how exciting!

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/08/2011 11:32

postie can come at any time here- but usually late morning, not unknown a 2 pm...gah ! We still don't know his singing exam results either, was rather hoping he might ask for those too,if he'd gone in. Friend's dd isn't going in- think they might feel a bit intimidated by the hoards of year 11s clamouring about.
Anxiety dream last night about nuclear disaster but my main concern was not having enough loo paper, getting all my things organised and going to have a poo before the disaster occurred - obviously a curious combination of thinking of this thread and ds's results.
Hope you feel ok today topsy and KK.Good luck to all with consultations and dds with interviews

pinkstarlight · 25/08/2011 12:09

topsy...poor you i never had that problem but my bladder did start to get sluggish and the flow was very slow, like kurri i did have problems on the poo side infact looking back i spent alot of the time on the loo or running to the loo.i always came home after chemo my legs was always wobbly.at least you managed to get your dress.

sands...good luck for your daughter.

mas...lol at your son making you wait longer for the results.

feeling ok today my post op pain isnt to bad they doubled the strenght of my painkillers because my seroma is starting to fill again, questioning why i have a seroma while i have a drain was told that it was because one of my drains fell out and the other was blocked.i wont be taking that many painkillers again last night i was gripping the walls never felt so odd in all my life.

consultant wants to keep my drain in till i produce less than 40 mil in 24 hours but im still producing over 300 mil,the drain is driving me bloody mad its blocked again this morning full of rubbish,a few trips up and down the stairs will hopefully get it moving again.

amberlight · 25/08/2011 13:02

Yay!!! Mr Surgeon he say lumpectomy! He's v v pleased. Oh phew...

KurriKurri · 25/08/2011 13:13

Good for you amber, - that's great Smile phew indeed!

Pink, I hope they get those drains sorted soon, what a pain. is there anything you can do to unblock it, apart from wiggling it around?

It is pouring with rain here and quite cold. I hope Smee has had good weather on her camping holiday.

Brew anybody?

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 25/08/2011 13:51

fantastic amber !! hooray and yay Grin
pink- it all sounds pretty rotten for you at the moment- really hope the gunk stops soon.
Righto- have cleaned and dusted-must feed us and go and get the blazer ! Brew would be lovely thanks KK

Figgyroll · 25/08/2011 17:09

Great news Amber. Grin

Pity about the blocked drain, Pinks. I hope it flushes through. Mine came out on day 5 and I was still producing over 200ml when the DN took it out. I have a small swelling but apparently they get 'absorbed'. I read on the BCC site that a lot of mx ladies aren't being given drains at all now.

MAS, has the postie been yet? My FB Home page is full of friends congratulating their offspring on good results. I'm sure your boy has done well too. He seems an exceptionally bright lad from the things you say about him.

Sands, I hope the interview went well today. Any news yet?

Topsy, I had 'toilet' troubles too. Weeing was a slow and laborious process so never got caught out there but had to rush for a poo many a time. Your dress sounds lovely. Glad to hear your driver is doing it's stuff.

I've been out for lunch with friends today (and No.2 son). DH took me to see the oncologist this morning and she is thrilled with the results of chemo. For a lady who doesn't seem to smile at much, to see her beaming and gushing meant a lot to us so we both feel a lot more reassured. Icould have hugged her. She sent me for a blood test to check whether or not I'm post menopausal (I think I must be) and has given me letrozole/Femara to take once the results come through. Then it's radiotherapy at the end of September. I'm also expecting a letter for a bone density scan. It's all looking very positive.

I only live in a small village and, when the DNs were coming in after the op, one mentioned she was going to see another mx lady who had had her op a few days before me and who lived in a street not far from mine. Then yesterday I learnt about a neighbour (young and with 4 small children) up the road who had her mx last week but in London. AND one of DHs close workmates had her mx last week too. Dreadful bastard BC. But we're all fighting it and that's the main thing.

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/08/2011 17:37

excellent news figgy - fantastic Grin !!!
Postie should bring results tomorrow - it's only the one this year (they do RS early-) I so hope he has done well

sandripples · 25/08/2011 17:45

Amber and Figgy - I'm really pleased about your news - isn't that great - I know what you mean when the surgeon or onc can give you good news - its lovely.

Good luck MAS with your GCS result - its practise for next year for you!

No news here from DD yet - thanks for the good wishes.

amberlight · 25/08/2011 18:16

Yay Figgy!!!!!!!!!! Grin

topsyturner · 25/08/2011 19:40

Yippee for figgy and amber . Good news day today !
And mas , well done you for being so patient and waiting for tomorrows post . I would be tearing my hair out by now (if I had any) Grin

Had very lazy pj day today . Still feeling a bit crap , but much better than yesterday .
DH working late tonight , but should be home by 9pm .
Think I need some food , suggestions for what I should have please . (and proper food , not popcorn , cake , etc Grin )

FrameyMcFrame · 25/08/2011 22:52

Hi everyone, just popping in, I've been reading and lurking Smile
Fantastic news for Figgy and Amber!

Good news for my Mum too, after seeing the oncologist yesterday she has been told that they're not recommending chemo for her. She was really pleased about that. She will get radiotherapy and Letrozole. Apparently it's great stuff and is very effective ( also costs nearly £100 per pack apparently!)
Good luck for the exam results MAS.
Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/08/2011 23:11

that's very good news for your mum Framey ! I was reading something (an e book sample on kindle) written by a GP and he told of how a computer glitch caused the price of the drugs to appear on the prescriptions and patients were horrified by the huge cost - he thought if it was put on the presc. people might stick to their course of medication !
Foods for topsy- hmmm - left to my own devices I'd live on cereal, salad, cheese and crackers, marmite and peanut butter and fruit (oh and yogurt) (and jelly) Dh makes sure we eat really quite healthily - I love salad-you could have it with tuna and anchovies and cannellini beans with olive oil and black pepper -easy and good for you ! Scrambled eggs with cheese on toasted bagel...(am just randomly thinking of stuff we have during the week- he does proper cooking at weekends !) Bit late now I realise for food !
Hope you found something tasty x

WhoremoaneeGrainger · 25/08/2011 23:17

Hi Ladies, dont know if you remember but i posted a couple of weeks ago about my lovely mum.

The bad news is that the BC has returned, 9 years and 8 mths after the last time!!!

She is having a mastectomy on the 13th of September. They did offer to do a lumpectomy, but she has decided that she would rather they took the whole thing away, bless her.

They said that they didnt think it was invasive, but because she has no lymph glands (all removed last time) they didnt want to take any chances.

Have been too scared to google, but i think i will.

Thanks for the support.

cakesandale · 26/08/2011 08:19

Rough news WhoremoanG - but I am glad she is getting her op and quickly. She sounds redoutable (sp?). I will watch her progress fingers cross, and with high hopes. Keep us posted.

Well done to figgy and amber. Some really fab news.

We went up Sparkles' way yesterday to the Monkey Forest, just dd and me. It was fab, lots of baby monkeys to coo at Grin

cakesandale · 26/08/2011 08:20

Where is my head???? Excellent news for your Mum too, Framey. Yay!

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/08/2011 08:40

WhoremoaneG - yes,as cakes says, rough news- do stay around if we can be helpful-will be thinking of her and you.
