Tada! A shiney new thread - get me with my fancy asterisks Grin

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 26/08/2011 08:44

Dh off today and it is pouring with rain which isn't what we'd planned Sad but never mind.
Picked up blazer yesterday with badge sewn on by them ! Also found some totally lovely and comfy shoes in the wardrobe exchange shop - barely worn clothes -these are the softest suede with leather lining, flat turquoise suede loafers from a very posh shop in Winchester-apparently the lady who brought them in always has lovely, expensive stuff..these have been worn once or twice and I think (hope) are a bargain .

SparkleRainbow · 26/08/2011 08:49

Framey, figgy and amber - fantastic news!

Whoremoanee, I am so sorry for your mum, she sounds proactive from what you have said, so fingers crossed, and as cakes said, not a long wait for the op at least.

Cakes did you wave to us? We love the monkey forest, ds spends all his time attempting to take photos, with my very rubbish camera....he is v patient considering! Grin He woke up with a dislocated shoulder this morning, so today will not be a good day. Sad

SparkleRainbow · 26/08/2011 08:51

MAS shoes sound lovely, I have a bit of a shoe fettish, but only a vcoupke of pairs as it is very difficult to find anything I can wear with my long narrow feet and dodgy joints. >

cakesandale · 26/08/2011 08:53

They do sound nice - and what a great way to get colourful shoes! A couple of years back I took a donation of stuff to the RSPCA shop and was tempted by a pair of yellow shoes for £2.50!!!! Never worn, and lovely. I don't think they are a very smart label but they are soft and comfy to wear, and always attract admiring glances. I don't think I would often pay top whack for yellow shoes Grin

Raining a lot here too Sad Weekend looks OK though

SparkleRainbow · 26/08/2011 08:55

Raining here too, finally, we are back in sync!

I would love yellow shoes, but wouldn't have the confidence to wear them.

cakesandale · 26/08/2011 09:27

It's not confidence you need sparkles - it's a total disregard for your DP's rude comments. My dh likes to call them my 'banana boats' .

I find 'Sod off' a helpful riposte at times like that - short, to the point, and hard to argue with Grin

weekend weather forecast is deteriorating. Angry

cakesandale · 26/08/2011 09:30

Of course we waved!

Sadly we only had the phone cameras and not much came out on them.

There was one very loud human Mum there absolutely F-ing and Blinding at her kids who were all under school age. Dd couldn't take her eyes of the woman, but it was all very aggressive to some very little kids. Sad

Sparkles I missed your previous post. I am very sorry ds is in trouble again, i hope he isn't in too much pain. Sad

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/08/2011 10:55

poor junior sparkle - hope his shoulder isn't too painful -and that the day is better than you imagine.
The monkey place sounds great fun but Shock @ that mother- no wonder dd was fascinated.
Banana shoes sound very jolly indeed. I put up pictures of shoes I liked on my fb page and my nephew in law wrote very uncomplimentary things under most -I told him that he had no sense of style.
I have 1 picture and 3 cards to do for sept. so will be busy -and have designed and ordered another postcard for me to send out with pictures.
Am also panicking as it occurs to me that 2 school friends (2 of the 3 I had lunch with in Claygate when I got lost) are coming to lunch here very soon - what on earth should I make ? Friend M made lovely salads and a cheesecake -am just flapping.

cakesandale · 26/08/2011 11:48

No inspiration here I'm afraid. As it's a bit grim I'd say soup and nice bread, but that may be a tall order from scratch just now.

But have fun!

KurriKurri · 26/08/2011 11:57

Poor little sparkles Sad - I hope he feels better soon, it must be so painful fro him poor chap.

Figgy - great news about beaming oncologist Grin - hooray for you.
And for Framey's mum, - great she's avoided chemo, Smile

But very sorry your mum's news not so good Whoremoanee, I'm glad she's getting her op. soon, I understand her sentiments about the mastectomy/lumpectomy choice. Fingers crossed everything goes well for her.

topsy - hope you found something tasty to eat last night, a PJ day sounds just the thing, take it easy today.

Monkey Jungle sound fun Cakes (apart from sweary woman Shock - how horrible), There's a place near my parents called Monkey World, we used to visit a lot when the children were young.
Yellow shoes = very snazzy, - sod off works for me too with DH Grin

MAS - love your birthday shoes, very stylish. Like the sound of the turquoise loafers too. Have a nice lunch with friends Smile

DH left from Vancouver early this morning, he actually managed to do his packing with reasonable efficiency.

Just after he left, the roof over DD's room sprung a leak - its pouring with rain here. We have arranged bowls underneath the leak, and are hoping the rain will stop

A woman phoned me yesterday and asked if I'd like to join her bookclub (I'd left my name at the library saying I wanted to join one) Next meeting in Sept. reading the Millstone by Margaret Drabble. It sounds fun (they meet in a hotel, comandeer a room and have coffee and cake - what's not to like? Grin)

This has turned into another one of my mega posts, - apologies.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 26/08/2011 12:29

oh lunch isn't today- it's in a couple of weeks Grin am panicking ahead !!
Hope dh has a good trip KK - huge nuisance about roof- maybe a tile has slipped ? Book club will be fun I'm sure, especially if there's cake- have a feeling I've read The Millstone -many years ago.
Postie has been, but no sign of results -bah !

KurriKurri · 26/08/2011 12:34

Boo to results not arriving, hopefully they'll come tomorrow (or you'll be on tenterhooks until Tuesday! because of BH)

Ah - panicking ahead is fine, (I thought it was unlike you to be wondering what to serve an hour or so before guests arrived Grin you are usually so organised)

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 26/08/2011 12:37

Meant to say that blueberry and peach cake (Nigel Slater recipe) you recommended to me once, is lovely - its a sort of pudding cake, and is delicious. The link is here in case you no longer have it. Smile

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 26/08/2011 12:40

MAS - Arghh re the results, you will have to wait until tomorrow now! I thought the lunch was today too Grin How about a nice tomatopasta dish and green salad?

Kurri - Could be a slipped tile or a bit of lead flashing lifted, can you see anything from the outside?

cakesandale · 26/08/2011 12:41

Blimey, he'll need to go the school, surely - otherwise he could be waiting til Tuesday!!! You'll all have exploded with tension by then!!

Lunch in two weeks is not nearly so stressful. I'm still thinking nice soup though - with lots of harvest type veggies. Yum.

A leaky roof is Very Bad News. I think today is the worst though, so if you can get through this it should be better later on

And the book club sounds great. In fact, better than great. As long as the cake is top notch.

I'm reading How to be a Woman by Caitlin Moran. I have come to the conclusion that I am very much an innocent - so far as I can see, her life is just porn-a-go-go. I thought I was reasonably unshockable but actually, it seems I have led a very sheltered life Hmm I don't know your book club, of course, but I very much doubt whether How to be a Woman will ever be on the list Grin

SparkleRainbow · 26/08/2011 12:45

Grin at book by caitlin Moran, it would be Blush to be reading that as part of a book club, imagine discussing that over cake! Grin

cakesandale · 26/08/2011 12:55
Grin
KurriKurri · 26/08/2011 13:43

Cakes - I don't think How to be a Woman is their kind of thing Grin

I've had a look at the roof (from the other side of the road Grin), we've got a chalet bungalow, DD's room is in the roof and has a sort of sticking out window with a flat roof on it. From what I can see, a bit of the flat roof stuff (has come up from the surface.
I don't think it will be a big job, probably something DH can fix, but it's a nuisance its happened now. Can we have some sun dances please Grin

OP posts:
amberlight · 26/08/2011 13:48

Righto - I shall get dancing rightaway

Any good?

cakesandale · 26/08/2011 14:01

Sun has honestly come out, here at least

KurriKurri · 26/08/2011 14:09

Very impressive dancing amber, you'll need a Brew now Grin

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 26/08/2011 16:11

Sun is shining here too, wow amber, you are good! Grin

amberlight · 26/08/2011 17:03

My pleasure Grin

Brew sounds good to me.

Ilovegeorgeclooney · 26/08/2011 17:45

Hi all, sorry to hear about peoples tribulations, BC is certainly a rollercoaster ride. I have had a good couple of days and feel rather bad when I remember people are going through post-op, chemo etc. It does get better!

My DD2 got her GCSE results and did really well, I still feel that after the 18 months she had, first my BC then her dad dying so suddenly, it is remarkable she even managed to sit them especially since her school were so unkind and unsupportive. She got 3A*6A and 2B's so I am a very proud mama! We also got her enrolled at a very good school for 6th Form today so I am well chuffed.

Plus my other 59 little darlings did incredibly well, as did my whole department so it was a lovely day, I had been having nightmares about my pupils all failing because I was ill and was delighted with the results. It was very strange I actually felt happy and realised it was the first time I had felt happiness since my DH died id January. So it also proved that things can and do get better.

Hoping you all have had a good/better day

KurriKurri · 26/08/2011 18:07

Congratulations to your DD ILGC, - those are fabulous results under any circumstances, but all the more amazing considering all she has been through.

You must be very chuffed about your pupils too.

It is very early days since your DH died, and grief can be a bit of a one step forwards two steps back road sometimes, so I'm really pleased you've had a good, happy day, - you deserve it Smile
