new thread here !

That's not fair - my scone didn't have Olympian Flourish on it - just a bit of butter Grin

Morning all. Brew available.

thederkinsdame · 28/06/2011 08:45

MAS - speak to the publisher and ask for their help. You should be getting 50-50. Without your illustrations would the book have done so well? Would it even have been published?! He says he has taken it from place to place, well it was your illustrations that brought the book to life for them and, as you are credited, you are indeed entitled to PLR.

cakesandale · 28/06/2011 09:36

Welcome thederkinsdame - good advice, I am sure.

Just wanted to say - morning all. I want to bake cheese scones but am holding off in a heroic pathetic attempt to maintain weight loss this week. The virtual ones I scoffed had remarkably few calories.

Topsy - dd is indeed feisty. We have had several battles already this morning.

School reports this week. Exciting!! I know it's not quite as momentous as the excellent 2:1s that have been awarded recently, but it's a break from the humdrum for me Wink

KurriKurri · 28/06/2011 10:02

School reports - exciting, I used to love reading them.

Welcome thederkinsdame - its lovely to have visitor pop in, sound advice too.

Phew it is hot hot hot today, - I woke up sweating (TMI) this morning. I wish a storm would come to clear the air.

DD got home late last night, so we have a house full of boxes, bags etc. all over the places. She loved her card MAS, - thought it was brilliant Smile So thank you again!

I hope everyone is feeling OK today, - how are you feeling this morning Pink?

KurriKurri · 28/06/2011 10:03

Ooh - missed your post Amber (not fully awake yet!), I'll have a Brew or three please Grin

thederkinsdame · 28/06/2011 10:06

Thanks! Hope you all have a good day and that you get the PLR issue sorted, MAS.

topsyturner · 28/06/2011 10:22

amber Grin

Milky tea for me please .
And can someone stop my pig/dog from barking in the garden please ? I have just mopped myself into my armchair , so can't go out and shout gently berate him for his noisyness .
Little sod has a sixth sense for this !

topsyturner · 28/06/2011 10:24

Hope all is well today pink

And good morning dame . Pleased to meet you Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/06/2011 10:33

morning all and thank you dame - my editor has spoken to the author anyway, but am agreeing to 25% for each. I sent all the emails to my agent (who wasn't involved in this job-this publisher is my client) and she was incandescent and suggested I take it further but I really don;'t want to spoil the very good relations I have with my publisher,or make trouble for them.
I may do scones at the weekend Grin
Am off to pick up my prescription later - it's summer concert tonight which means hot school gym and scowly boy in his choir - hope it doesn't go on too long.

KK -v pleased she liked her card ! Have put it on my fb pages ( I took a photo of it on my mantlepiece !) and one of my friend's dd with the same name has her 23rd bday today !

OP posts:
thederkinsdame · 28/06/2011 10:37

MAS - glad you got it sorted, although I'm still Shock about the author. Mind you, reputation counts for a lot and it will soon become common knowledge that he/she is a bit of an arse!

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/06/2011 10:42

I'm sure it'll come out somewhere ! I feel better about it today, yesterday was a bit horrible.

OP posts:
shoormal · 28/06/2011 11:06

Hi - thanks MaryAnnSingleton for inviting me to join the thread (after I posted on another one).

I've read bits and pieces of this thread but I'm afraid I don't know everyone's background. Briefly, I found a lump about 6 weeks ago and since then have been diagnosed with (very early) breast cancer and have had surgery to remove the lump and a couple of lymph nodes. I was told yesterday that the nodes were clear so nothing has spread. I have an appointment next Monday to see the oncologist to find out about what further treatment is required.

I'll try to read some of the older threads to learn what people's stories are.

Cheers!

KurriKurri · 28/06/2011 11:23

hello shoormal - I'm so glad you've found us,Smile but sorry of course about your DX. It is good news that your BC was caught early and there was no spread. You'll feel better once you know your treatment plan and can organise things round it.

Its early days for you and I expect you are still feeling a bit shaken up by it all. But we do hand holding, support, tea and cake in abundance, so just dive in. Smile

MAS - how nice your friends DD has the same name - happy birthday to herSmile - will every one on FB on this thread be able to see the card? - that would be great. (sorry I'm a complete FB ignoramus)

It's my mum's 89th b'day today. So DD and i will give her a ring later, and I expect my sister who lives nearby will make a cake.

I'm glad you feel better about the PLR business today MAS - not worth letting a pompous git upset you Smile

cakesandale · 28/06/2011 11:32

I am glad it's sorted MAS. Try and forget the idiot.

Happy birthday to KK's Mum. I hope she has a lovely day (and cake). It has got cooler here already, so I hope the trend will continue across to where you are soon. It is so much nicer. I spent all of yesterday like a grease spot, and with frizzy hair. At Pilates I nearly slid off the mat (TMI alert).

Welcome Shoonormal. I am glad you have found us. I am so pleased that your lump was found early and all sounds so positive. Stick with us and ask anything you want. I wouldn't go back through the threads too far, there is a lot to wade through now! Just ask away and we'll tell you! We discuss EVERYTHING on here (but very often it is just cake).

topsyturner · 28/06/2011 11:42

Happy Birthday mummykk . Have a slice of cake !

Morning shoormal and welcome .
Nothing spread to your nodes sounds like really positive news .
Bit of a speedy old roller coaster though isn't it ?
I am topsy , 41 , nearly 4 weeks post mastectomy and node removal . (Diagnosed 2 weeks before surgery)
I (hopefully) start chemo on Monday .

The Ladies here know everything - from cancer related knowledge right through to 80s pop trivia and cake appreciation ! [Grin]

There are no questions too stupid (as I have asked them all already !)
Dive right in .

cakesandale · 28/06/2011 12:10

Is it really 4 weeks already topsy? Blimey, doesn't time fly? I have my fingers crossed for a trouble free start on Monday on the basis that the sooner it is over, the better.

Shoormal, here's hoping you get away without the chemo, you sound a good candidate for BC-lite (ie just the lump and the radio). Fingers crossed. But whatever they decide to give you, I think we will have someone here who has had it, so just ask away.

For myself, I am 48, had a lumpectomy two years ago, as well as removal of 17 nodes - but they were all clear. For complicated reasons that don't affect most people I was advised to have chemo and had 6 cycles of FEC and then three weeks of radio. That all finished at the end of 2009 and I am back with hair a-plenty and all my get up and go back. I have an eight year old dd and a dh, and work for myself.

smee · 28/06/2011 12:17

Morning all, Amber stick the kettle on for me. Hope you're feeling okay today.

Hello to Dame. Good advice for MAS. Am still seething for you though, MAS. I think you gained the moral high ground though, which is at least something.

And welcome to shoormal. Sorry you've been diagnosed, but stick with us as this thread is amazing - really has been a sanity saver for me. I'm 45 now, was diagnosed March last year, had mastectomy, lymph nodes removed, chemo, radio (everything in other words!) and am genuinely fine now. In fact I feel really good. Cycled to the pool and went for a swim this morning. [smug] Ask us all and any questions you want. Doubtless we'll have a view, as we're opinionated experts. Grin

Happy Birthday to your mum kk. Shame she lives too far away to drop in on. Lovely your DD's back though. Hope you celebrated her degree last night.

Cakes, I'd bet my DS could match your DD for attitude. Last night he had an extraordinary strop over a courgette which I'd dared to try and sneak into his cous cous. We haven't got to reports yet - expect that will be soon. Sports day tomorrow though, which is always anarchic. I don't think they've ever heard of the word competition, which drives ds mad, but I love it.

Hope everyone on treatment's okay today. Haven't heard from some for a while. Thinking of you all though. Come tell us how you are when you can. Pink, hope you got through okay yesterday. Fingers crossed the lower dose won't hit you so hard. Smile

smee · 28/06/2011 12:21

Meant to add; Topsy, just lounge where you are and rattle the biscuit tin. The pig dog will be by your side in a heartbeat. Grin

cakesandale · 28/06/2011 12:30

oddly enough we had a tantrum about courgettes as well last night. dd had eaten rubbish all weekend while camping so I told her she had to at at least half a tomato. She said it was mean as she hated tomato. I said 'fine, eat the courgette instead'. Cue her going into meltdown, me digging my heels in, and everything going pearshaped. Very likely I didn't handle it well.

I also made her drink a smoothie and eat an apple before she could have the cake she wanted

cakesandale · 28/06/2011 12:31

I miss figgy, and LimeJelly, and LittleGreenFrog - and all the others. Wonder how they are doing?

Was it something I said?

KurriKurri · 28/06/2011 13:16

Yes I agree with missing people, - I hope they are all doing well, I often think of haggisdoodle and Pennies too.

Smee - courgettes??? - you cruel woman you Grin you too Cakes - mind you my niece wouldn't go into a room if it had a tomato in it, (DD had a similar reaction to slugs mushrooms Grin)

Thanks for birthday wishes to mum, she's a bit fed up at the moment because of a knee injury, but she's had a steroid injection so hopefully that will help - otherwise she's cheerful as always.

Shoormal - I was DX 3 years ago, had mastectomy, lymph node removal because it had spread, chemo, radiotherapy and a year of herceptin. But still here, slightly plumper Grin but feeling good. Also fingers crossed you manage to avoid chemo, but if not, lots of support here Smile

I have a bottle of wine to celebrate DD's degree tonight, and I'm going to arrange a meal out for all of us when DS and his GF are free. I am currently being spoilt with her playing coooool jazz as I write Smile

cakesandale · 28/06/2011 13:29

Wine and cool jazz, how lovely. And the prospect of a meal out as well. Perfect!

Grey and slightly drizzly here now - just the sort of weather to make you feel a bit flat.

cakesandale · 28/06/2011 13:35

I saw Pennies the other day under another name and she seems to be doing OK and forging ahead with her new post-treatment life. I like to think they are all now too busy and involved in good stuff to need to talk to us any more. Personally though, I'd miss the support Wink

shoormal · 28/06/2011 13:44

Gosh - thanks very much for all the welcomes!! One very positive thing about all of this is that I have realised just how many supportive people I have round me and that makes a huge difference.

My H and I are currently in the process of separating and even he has been very supportive which has helped a great deal with our 14yo daughter. I think telling her was the hardest part but she's been incredible and very mature for her age. A lot of tears from her but lots of cuddles too.

It does help a lot to hear how you have all had various levels of treatment and come out the other side doing well.

I am 49 and was on HRT after starting the menopause at 43. I don't know if that is in any way a contributory factor but I'm not going down the route of looking for a reason for this. I just want to get on with whatever is needed and get it over with.

Topsy - it looks like we are at a similar stage although I know I've been very lucky and have only needed a lumpectomy. The doctor said I was 'in the middle' for needing chemo so I guess I'll find out next week. Good luck to you with yours!
