OP posts:
topsyturner · 04/08/2011 08:07

Morning all .

Hi to figgy and iloveGC , pleased to meet you Grin

Busy day today , sister , her partner and my nephews flight lands in approximately 2 minutes . They have hired a car from the airport though , so I don't have to run and grab them .

Feeling much better now , dizzyness and fatigue mostly lifted .
Managed to clean the house AND cook dinner yesterday Grin

Now sitting in a peaceful and clean house waiting for chaos to descend !

Hope you are all having a good week , am terribly shocked at the very idea of hoards of ladies going commando on the mainland ............ Grin

cakesandale · 04/08/2011 10:12

IloveGC - sorry, I have no idea about Dixarit, but don't lurk, jump in. We all love company, especially when worried.

Glad you are feeling better topsy - enjoy the visit.

I am quite relieved to hear I am not the only commando flyer. It's the only way in this heat (and I've always favoured a longer skirt owing to very dodgy fat legs, so it seems quite a safe option in the heat. Though once i did get rather a serious infected horse fly bite on my bum, which was embarrassing to say the least, and may well have been avoided by knicker-wearing Grin

smee · 04/08/2011 10:39

Commando all gone here, Topsy. Rain falling, big pants on. Grin Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. Claim the sofa and let the chaos float round you. Have fun with them all. Smile

Chucking it down here. Quite nice actually. My little desk is under a Velux window, so it's a bit tent like listening to the drops fall. Just been listening to Woman's Hour about BC Screening. Very interesting, though I must confess to screetching at the radio at one point. Some numptie saying not all DCIS turns malignant, say 1:10, so why stress women by screening at all? Which of course is fine unless you're the 1:10. G'ah!

Hope everyone's well today. Bit worried about Pink again; she's gone very quiet. Figgy, will be thinking of you tomorrow for your op. Come chat to us once you're through. Smile

Right, had better do some work...

cakesandale · 04/08/2011 10:48

I've got that rooflight thing going on too, Smee. It is quite nice, isn't it? Was open yesterday, now it's keeping the deluge off my head.

Figgy - i will be thinking of you too. I think you'll feel much better when it's done - it's a very positive thing getting the lump gone. Take it easy x

smee · 04/08/2011 10:57

Cakes, we have some ultra butch squirrels, who peer down at me from time to time. I think they're plotting a take over. Bit freaky..

cakesandale · 04/08/2011 11:49

That would be a bit creepy. We have huge, fat wood pigeons who sound like a person climbing up the roof. I have actually gone outside to see if there is an oik trying to break in, in the past Grin And if they just fly over it, low, it is like a rapid cloud passing overhead. Sometimes we both duck!

SparkleRainbow · 04/08/2011 12:10

Belated happy birthday cakes.

Welcome IloveGC, you seem to be doing really well considering what you have been dealing with.

Figgy, I am so glad to hear from you, shrinkage news is great stuff, jow are you feeling in yourself?

Just back from taking ds to his clinical psychology appt, and now I thunk I need therapy to recover, it is bloody hard work, and he is hard work when he is there, the psychologist certainly earns her salary and danger money too working with ds! Grin, have to Grin as no flopping in exhaustion emoticon.

sandripples · 04/08/2011 12:35

Hi everyone,
Figgy - really sorry you've had a rough time, with the chemo and the cannula leaking. I will be thinking of you on Friday - good luck and I'm glad the lumps have shrunk - at least the ghastly treatment has worked.

Cakes - I'm extremely Envy about your hols - it sounds really fantastic.

IloveGC - sorry I don't know about that drug. I do know however that I can terrify myself reading about SEs and actually they mostly don't happen - even my surgeon warned me that some women can't get out of bed when on Arinidex and said I'd be on Tamoxifen. My onc later prescibed Arimidex but apart from some initial stiffness for a few months I'm fine on it and no longer stiff. So although they have to warn about all these ghastly SEs they do affect a minority.

Sparkels and others with little DCS on holiday - hope you're all coping well and enjoying the summer together.

DH, DS and I had a great break in London- hugely helped by having 4nights staying at a friend's who saved us 000s of pounds. London was looking fab in the heat wth everyone lazing around in the parks and on the south bank - We took the Ducktour (thanks MAS!) , went to the science museum, had a quick visit to Imperial College which was good as we met one of the tutors who told DS all about their fancy new equipment, had a lovely time at my brother and SIL's anniversary party, spent time in Hyde Park, Harrods and went to see Arrietti and a prom. So we packed a good amount in and all enjoyed it. My DS wants to live there now!

KK - are you OK? I haven't read back through all the posts but gather you're going to GP - is it still the thyroid problem? I do hope it can be sorted out soon. Just to cheer you up, we have very impressive cucumbers flourishing in my shed/greenhouse - and loads of toms appearing. Also loads of dwarf beans doing well. have just sent DH out in the rain to pick a cucumber!

I'm a bit releived to be cooler today - was dripping in London - didn't think of removing knickers at the Prom but it would have helped...very hot up at the top of the circle Grin

cakesandale · 04/08/2011 12:59

Hi SR - sounds like a brilliant (if sweaty) break!

Sparkles: I think the circumstances make wine absolutely acceptable this afternoon. At 11.55 when first mentioned on Facebook - No. Methinks the morning is a bit too desperate. But everything becomes possible at midday. You wouldn't want to be thought a lush Wink Grin Don't give DS any though, that really is a step too far Grin

Much fresher here today. It makes quite a nice change after 2 weeks of heat, heat, heat.

Sending many, many positive vibes to Figgy. Candle will be lit tomorrow. x

KurriKurri · 04/08/2011 13:11

Hello all - and welcome ILoveGeorge - sorry I'm also not familiar with dixarit, but I guess all things have side effects and if its making you fell better that's a good thing, hot flushes are miserable especially if you are working.
Anyway as others have said, don't lurk, jump in Smile

topsy - I'm glad you're feeling better, have a lovely time with your family Smile

SR - London break sounds great fun, you really packed things in Smile And yes it is still thyroid with me. I'm Envy of your cucumbers and toms, - brilliant. And I think it must be a bumper year for beans, - I've had the best crop I've ever had this year.

Smee - also raining here, but still very hot and muggy. I'll look up that WH programme on t'internet and have a listen, sounds interesting.

Cakes - it shows the state of my brain, that even having read Smee's post, I then read yours and spent several minutes wondering what a Roo Flight was Blush -it sounded vaguely Australian Grin

My laptop is making a horrendous noise, it's either on its last legs, or (quite likely Blush) full of biscuit crumbs, so if I suddenly disappear, you'll know its given up.

KurriKurri · 04/08/2011 13:13

How did I miss your post sparkle Confused - sounds like you've had an exhausting morning, Brew and cake is in order I think. Smile

cakesandale · 04/08/2011 13:22

Hi KK. I am liking the idea of a Roo Flight.

Very, very jealous of everyone who has grown veg this year: I have only managed to invest any emotional energy in pumpkins, and I am not sure how they are doing - they look OK but I have never grown them before so not sure quite what to expect (apart from probably impossibly small lanterns come Halloween).

Careful shaking out the biscuit crumbs, it's easy to loosen something vital doing that, speaking from bitter experience Hmm

We've just had super fast, super big broadband installed. Now the man has gone, I bet I could do something really impressive, if only I knew how....

smee · 04/08/2011 14:32

Zippy broadband eh, Cakes. You can watch tv on it now. We'll never hear from you again. Grin

SR, glad you had fun in London. Was so hot yesterday, so bet it was hard work. A jealous of Arrietti. DH took DS on Monday, so I missed out. Sad

Sparkle, Brew and Cake for you. Bet you're glad the morning's through.

Kurri that WH prog did make me cross, but then that's because I'm one of the few that screening would have worked in favour of. All v.interesting and definitely worth a listen.

sandripples · 04/08/2011 17:01

Smee - it was on MOnday that we saw Arietti too - at Odeon in Shaftesbury Avenue ('Covernt Garden') I wonder if your family was at the same cinema??

SparkleRainbow · 04/08/2011 18:31

Wine o'clock folks.......dh is on holiday so it definitely counts....so running count for today

  1. clinical psych appt, enough said frankly
  2. swimming with all three dc (this was very good but exhausting)
  3. compressor on car breaks (400 ish) - so have to at least pay to fix window (250 plus labour)
  4. dh expenses still not paid
5 dc refusing to eat dinner 6 ortho surgeon secretary avoiding my calls (been waiting for this one for 3 months now) 7 potty training not going well (carpet is looking cleaner albeit in patches)

A good day ;) glass anyone?

SparkleRainbow · 04/08/2011 18:34

ooo cakes will you let me feel very superior about home produce....dc are currently refusing to eat home grown potatoes, home grown courgettes, and home made and home grown chicken chasseur (sp?)....!!!, yep everything on their plate we have "grown", just so I can feed it to the dogs in about 20 mins.

SparkleRainbow · 04/08/2011 18:35

Wine second glass anyone ;)

KurriKurri · 04/08/2011 18:42

raises a Wine or two to Sparkle Smile - the best thing about bad days is the next one is bound to be better Grin

Should I start a new thread yet? (I told MAS I would when this was full, and now I am falling to pieces under the weight of the responsibility Grin)

FrameyMcFrame · 04/08/2011 18:43

Evening! Hope everyone's feeling ok.
Smee, yes I think she is overwhelmed by it all but also there is something going on with her tummy. She keeps burping a lot... sorry if TMI!
This happened last time after her lumpectomy and lymph clearance but by the time she was home from that op she felt better. This time it seems much worse. I got her some rennie deflatine last night and that made her feel well enough to eat some cheese and crackers but it's persisted today and she's been taking the rennies all day. She had a small bowl of soup and crackers for lunch but feels sick and nauseous still. :( I think I'll see if it improves over the weekend. Sorry to bore you all with the minute details... don't have anyone else to tell!!!

SparkleRainbow · 04/08/2011 18:45

Framey I think that is a reaction to the anaesthetic...I had something similar and felt very sick too. For me it wore off after a couple of days.

SparkleRainbow · 04/08/2011 18:46

I think I new thread is going to be needed very soon, especvially if I continue boring you all with such posts......Grin

smee · 04/08/2011 18:47

Ooh it's so annoying when they don't eat. Sparkle, you deserve that wine. Have another. Smile

SR, no my two saw it at local cinema. It's at the end of our road and lovely. When I first went there (years ago!), they had a cat which used to meander about your feet and chose someone to sit on. Grin

Just back from a swim. Strange man said I looked lovely in my swim hat, but that the goggles were an error. Confused

KurriKurri · 04/08/2011 18:50

Framey - is the district nurse still visiting? - could she give any advice?

It is quite common to get severe wind after an op. (very painful - pain often in your shoulder and chest) peppermint can help - in hospital they give you a drink of hot peppermint, - at home you can use peppermint cordial, or a few drops of peppermint flavouring in hot water, or peppermint tea. Ginger or lemon fruit teas can also settle things a bit.

But if she's very uncomfortable, or having trouble keeping down food or water, I would contact the hospital for advice.

Hope she's feeling better soon Smile

KurriKurri · 04/08/2011 18:51

Right I am going to start a new one, watch out for its appearance.........

KurriKurri · 04/08/2011 18:55

And it is.......here
