new thread here !

I like the shrug and necklace too, Kurri. Just need those elusive shoes now. Best get the dog better first though. [yuk!]

Interviewing Gok, how v.glam your DH is, Cakes. What was it for?

MAS, first Waitrose delivery is exciting - what have you ordered? We've done it a couple of times, but usually when there's an offer on - DH always gets their curries and cava. Lovely to have treats delivered to the door.

Amber, you do sound important. Which of course you are, but that's most definitely a proper job. Hope it goes well.

Pink v.good to see you here and okay-ish. Bit of a wait until the 22nd, but whatever the Onc decides, at least you're nearly through.

Topsy, are you okay?? Hope you are. Was watching the rioting on the news last night. Must be really unsettling to be so close though.

I've got my GP appt about room spinning soon. + yesterday's Genetics appt was v.interesting, but apparently I don't qualify. My mum has had BC treatment and now me. We're both the only women in our respective generations, but combined we only score 12 and you need 15 scale points to get the go ahead. Lovely Doctor suggested I 'find' another relative who has had it. So what d'you reckon? Should I create a rather tragic Great Aunt Flossie..?

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2011 11:04

Grin @having to invent a tragic great aunt !But grr that you aren't eligible-
I have my aunt and my brother with cancer, though not sure if h is cancer would 'count' I used to fret an awful lot that ds would have the same as my brother.
The waitrose delivery is our normal shopping - it seems to come to same amount as Sainsb. There is some kind of first order offer and we've used some vouchers we have to buy wine !
V exciting as a friend has just had twins -2 boys -this morning- and spookily when I went to the post office I saw twin baby boys .

OP posts:
smee · 13/07/2011 11:16

Ooh congrats to your friend, MAS. I'm God Mother to twins, who are 5 now. You'd never even know they are brother and sister.

amberlight · 13/07/2011 11:18

I'm not even slightly important, no. I just get to go test a lot of places. Not a lot different to having the plumber in to test the pipes, really Grin

cakesandale · 13/07/2011 11:53

Twin babies is very exciting MAS (but only at a distance, I don't think I could have handled 2 babies myself)

How annoying that you don't qualify for the testing, Smee, if it would put your mind at rest. Especially as we get it done routinely here without even asking for it. Seems to be tempting fate to manufacture another stricken relative, though. Could it be done privately? Would it be worth it if it gives you peace?

DH is not glamorous really. It was for a company newsletter. Not sure of the details but it sure beats our normal diet of MDs, FDs and new recruits.

topsyturner · 13/07/2011 13:12

amber - hope you are not imprisoned in a tower somewhere Grin

MAS - twins , eek ! I remember dh saying once when I was newly pregnant with DS "wouldn't it be nice to have twins ?"
I nearly smacked him !

kk - loving that blue colour . And I wouldn't be worrying about the dress being a different shade . I think its a bit twee to be too matchy matchy Grin

Have had my little pump taken down . And I don't feel sick at all so far .
I do feel a little spacey though . Maybe its just the anti sickness drugs working their way out of my body ?

Has anyone had a sort of numb feeling after either chemo or the anti sickness meds ?
The inside of my mouth feels numbish .
And (tmi) my fanjo area too Blush
Ofcourse to add to my woes I got my period on Monday !

KurriKurri · 13/07/2011 13:23

Cakes how exciting about Gok, I can imagine he is really friendly - he comes over that way (did you get the slight feeling he was wasted on your DH and it should have been you doing the interviewing Grin)

Smee - how annoying about not qualifying. When they asked me if I had any relatives who'd had cancer, I said no, then later remembered 2 grandparents, an aunt and and 2 uncles. I did do a sort of survey thing about relations with cancer that my GP sent me, I had to give blood samples, but I assume there's nothing of note there because they'd said they inform me if there was.

Twins are exciting MAS but hard work as babies I imagine, we had twins at my school who were mirror image twins (A left hander and a right, faces the same but opposite IYSWIM) they used to finish each others sentences, and say exactly the same thing at the same time - very sweet and very funny.

Have a nice lunch today.

Amber - I'm glad you are feeling better, - especially as it sounds as if you have a busy day ahead. Your job sounds very interesting.

Thank you for kind comments about outfit, I'm having my hair cut on Friday, so I'll look for shoes then (otherwise I will be wearing trainers or crocs Grin)

Yoga this morning, - the air conditioning was on full blast, it was freezing.

love to all especially folks on chemo Smile

KurriKurri · 13/07/2011 13:30

topsy -x-posted. Hope the sickness holds off now. I don't know about the anti sickness drugs, - you might well be on stronger ones than I was as you were so sick. I had cyclizine which basically sent me to sleep.

I would mention the numb feeling next time you're there. Using your difflam regularly through the day might help the mouth problem. But it might be the anti sick drugs - they sometimes have side effects, which one are you having?

cakesandale · 13/07/2011 13:33

Oh yes, KK, it definitely should have been me Grin.

I am glad you are getting excited about the graduation, it really should be a great day.

Topsy - I think the numbness - mouth and fanjo - are quite normal. The surface cells in both areas are affected by the chemo and, IIRC, about mid cycle was the time when this was most apparent for me. It should pass. I am glad you are not feeling sick now. Nice to be able to get on with things and feel a bit more normal -take it steady, though, it's important to conserve your energy a bit.

topsyturner · 13/07/2011 13:37

Am on Ondansetron for anti sickness meds . Oral tabs aswell as the jollop they made up for my driver .
Still got my taste buds though , so can't complain !

Beautiful day here .
DH has disappeared to his mums to cut her hedge .

Will have to have a rummage through the freezer and see what I can dig out for tonights dinner . Feeling quite uninspired today .

cakesandale · 13/07/2011 14:18

I think that stuff makes you a bit wired. Good though.

I couldn't be fagged with tea yesterday. Both mine were surprisingly happy with cheese on toast.

KurriKurri · 13/07/2011 14:29

topsy -just looked up ondansetron side effects, numbness and tingling are mentioned as is dizziness. It says with numbness/tingling to speak to your doctor, can you give him/her or the unit a ring? - I'm probably fussing over nothing as usual and I don't suppose for a minute its anything drastic, but might be worth checking out.

smee · 13/07/2011 14:36

Topsy, I'd say it's normal too. My mouth was v.sore - always hated that. Are you keeping a diary each day? If not it might be good to jot how you're feeling down each day, then next cycle you'll know how long each side effect lasts. Makes it more manageable somehow.

Cakes, think you're right, as I don't like the idea of making up a tragic Aunt. I'm going to quiz my mum about her father's side as I don't know anything about them, so there might be some cancer history I don't know anything about. If not, I'll see if I can get the test done privately. I'd like to know for my niece.

Dr says I have Labyrinthitis, so phew it's an ear infection. How funny to be pleased. Grin Not a lot she can do as it's viral usually, so will have to wait and hope it goes. I had a bit of a chat with her about menopause and hot flushes and she got me all excited, but giving me something called Clonodine - a non hormonal drug, which apparently helps some women. But I've just looked up the side effects and dizziness is the main one and difficulty sleeping is another - which is one of the reasons I talked to her, as the hot flushes wake me up. It can also cause hypertension, which is what I'm on the border of most of the time anyway. Not taking it. Not impressed. G'ah!

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2011 14:41

cheese on toast is one of my most favourite things, though we rarely have it (ds doesn't care for cheese)
Had jolly chatty lunch with my pals - and my shrug-loving friend was wearing a shrug the exact colour of KK's !
I think twins would've done my head in - my dad is a twin but when they were born they were living in Cairo, then India and had a nurse to look after the children (was the thing then in such places I think- cooks and batmen -Grandpa was in the Army)
Lunch was crayfish panini and a big glass of proper squeezed orange juice.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2011 14:42

sadly smee there always seems to be some side effect or other - grrr

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2011 14:45

btw- on another thread is someone asking about node clearance (her mum is having operation today) if anyone had good advice to offer...

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 13/07/2011 14:55

Labyrinthitis is horrible Smee, no wonder you feel dizzy. Clonodine sounds a bit of a non starter considering your symptoms!

MAS - I hope you complimented your friend on her excellent taste Grin

topsyturner · 13/07/2011 16:46

Thanks for looking up the side effects kk
The hospital just supplied the meds in a plain white box with no leaflet , so didn't have any contra indications to refer to .

Think I will make a note in my diary of any small niggles , and let them know at my next appointment .
Although to be honest , these side effects are soooo much better than the being sick !

I have also noticed my legs feel a little twitchy and pins and needley Grin

Just been to Tesco (no Waitrose in NI) to buy essential store cupboard supplies .
Got peanut M&Ms , Haagen Daz ice cream , bacon , etc .......

Going to see if we can get a take away delivered for tonights dinner too . This country is still in Bank Holiday mode , so we may be limited to what we can get .

But thanks to MAS I now want a crayfish sarni Grin

amberlight · 13/07/2011 17:39

crayfish sarnie?! Oh my! We have crayfish in the stream in the garden and they're vicious little blighters.

Haven't been imprisoned in the castle! Hurrah!

Topsy, yes to numb bits. Mouth at the mo feels 'orrible, and other bits feels weird Blush

topsyturner · 13/07/2011 19:44

I hasten to add , I wouldnt normally be noticing the nether region numb bits !
It's just that I got my period on Monday (yeah , thanks for that Mother Nature !) so it's more noticable right now Blush

I am digging an even deeper hole right now aren't I Grin

KurriKurri · 13/07/2011 21:34

there is no such thing as TMI on this thread topsy Grin

sandripples · 13/07/2011 21:41

smee - sorry about yr labyrynthitis as I gather that's pretty flooring- hope it clears soon.

KK - good luck with the shoe hunt. I found nice grey shoes for my outfit but on the graduation day (which is still making me feel very happy) I was glad i WORE FLATS AS THERE WAs a lot of standing and walking involved.

Topsy - I hope the se's settle soon.

My cleaning lady retired rather suddenly anout 4 months ago due to not feeling well. Thi s was after 17 years with us. She nad her husband have just called round to explain that she went for a scan about 6 weeks ago, then never went back home for a month! She was rushed off into a specialist hospital and had 6 hours of brain surgery only 5 days after the scan! Fortunately the mass was bening but they were obviously worried. Good for the NHS to sort it out so quickly. She didn't even have any hair shaved and seems very well- amazing. This is heartening as my niece's partner is having major brain surgery tomorrow. Fingers all very crossed here.

pinkstarlight · 14/07/2011 11:27

topsy..i also have that numb feeling round my mouth and lips, noticed as times gone on that area gets very dry and my lips crack and get sore.

sands..hope your nieces husbands surgery goes well.

kurri..my mum lives near brighton and im in the midlands.

having a couple of tired days fell sleep yesterday afternoon my son woke me when he came home from school, totally confused thinking its morning i ranted on about how impressed i was he had got dressed all by himself without me telling him to.he quite happily took the praise before i realised lol.

hes gone on a school trip today to a theme park he and his gang of pals who called for him this morning was all so excited,so nice to see them all happy gave me a real buzz.

just put a new desk together for the pc such hard work trying to screw wood together gave up and got a hammer out then had to fight my stupid lab sized dog off as he kept trying to rescue me.

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/07/2011 13:07

Grin @ pink ! and lots of good thoughts to your niece's partner - hope everything goes smoothly.
Have just had hair cut (and a few highlights) and have got a proper fringe for the first time in years (short bob) Think it's ok- please don't ask for a picture-you know how pathetic I am ! Must work now to pay for it.
