new thread here !

mas..your hair sounds really nice i bet it really suits you.

talking of hair because i had a delay in chemo my hair is starting to grow back, not sure if i will lose it again because of the tax.anyway cant make up my mind what colour it is as it looks much lighter than my normal blond hair i hope its not coming through white. my eyebrows have also grown back at first i was horrified as they seemed so much darker but now i have plucked them back into shape im loving them as before my eyebrows were barely noticable.

amberlight · 14/07/2011 15:39

My hair's been growing back all the way through TAX treatment - now half inch of it. Very odd, since I was told that TAX was most likely to stop it altogether. But I'm still wearing wigs until it's a decent length and able to be re-dyed.

pinkstarlight · 14/07/2011 16:08

amber..im also keeping my wig to i can get a decent hairstyle, interesting to know your hair is also growing back.

topsyturner · 14/07/2011 16:19

I still have my full head of hair .
But then I only had my first FEC 1 week ago Grin

I have had my appointment letter through to get fitted for my proper prosthesis (yippee !!!) And it says unless I turn up with a "professionally fitted" bra , they won't be able to fit me .
Where's the best place to get fitted ?
I got my post surgery bras from M&S . But to be honest , because I am very large of norkage they found it hard to find cup sizes to fit me .
Is there anywhere else you would recommend ?

amberlight · 14/07/2011 18:33

Might be worth trying La Senza - they have trained fitters and bras that go up to a 40GG. Or John Lewis stores maybe?

KurriKurri · 14/07/2011 18:33

topsy - have you got John Lewis anywhere near? - they do fittings and stock mastectomy bras. Debenhams do a fitting service (I know because friend of mine is a bra fitter there) but I'm not sure if they do post surgery bras.

I hope your niece's partners op went well SR.

MAS - I'm sure the haircut looks great, DD and I are having ours done tomorrow for Monday's do.

It will be nice if your mum gets somewhere near you Pink - especially since she's such a long way from you. Your DS makes me Grin he's a character, - I have done that falling asleep in the afternoon and waking up disorientated, then staring at the clock trying to work out if its morning or night!

Regarding hair - my first bit of regrowth was white and very soft, -(my hair is naturally darkish brown) but as it got a bit longer it went back to its normal colour (but with more grey)

I've been out all day, had a blood test first thing fro my thyroid, then yoga class, had lunch out then I went to a sort of informal art class, - which was fun - I drew tomatoes Grin It was very friendly and nice.
Then I went back to the doctors because I still have this 'impetigo', the AB's didn't work, - saw a really nice doctor (he looked slightly mad like Ade Edmondson Grin) and he said its not impetigo its Sebborrhoeic dermatitis, and has given me some cream. So fingers crossed it works by Monday or I will look very spotty in the photos.

KurriKurri · 14/07/2011 18:34

Oh Bravissimo is another one, that does fittings topsy

pinkstarlight · 14/07/2011 20:27

topsy...sounds like john lewis is a good place to try.

kurri...yes im looking forward to my mum moving back as for my son being a character hes more like a nightmare hes just told his dads friend he overheard me calling him ugly, poor guy is totally paranoid now.

topsyturner · 14/07/2011 20:56

No Bravissimmo or John Lewis over here unfortunately .
Stuck with M&S , Debenhams or LaSenza I think .

I think someone told me the Ulster Cancer Foundation offer a fitting service .
But I know its just going to be Granny bras Grin

Maybe I should get a cheap flight to London and go shopping there instead ?
Do you think the nhs will fund that ???

KurriKurri · 14/07/2011 21:00

It's worth asking topsy Grin could you ask the BCN - she might know where most people get their fittings done. Might be worth getting measured in more than one place - to see if they both give the same size.

pink - oops, - tape over his mouth maybe? Grin

KurriKurri · 14/07/2011 21:02

topsy is this place anywhere near you?

smee · 14/07/2011 21:37

Dizzy waving from Smee. Been running about a bit too much and the ear infection's taking over. Confused Too many posts to catch up on, but Pink and Amber my hair grew back on Tax too.

I just ate a fly. Didn't mean to, but it flew in as I was walking home. Was a big one too. [urgh..!]

KurriKurri · 14/07/2011 21:42

Yuk SmeeShock - you need to swallow a spider to catch the fly.... Grin

Be careful with the labyrithitis, take it easy, it can take a little while to get back to normal.

smee · 14/07/2011 21:48

Had quite forgotten that song, Kurri. I'll stop short of the horse. Grin

topsyturner · 14/07/2011 21:49

That's the place I just found too kk
Great minds eh Grin

I am going to be humming "I don't know why , she swallowed a fly" all night now smee

KurriKurri · 14/07/2011 22:00

I've got a couple of Anita bras topsy, which I see they stock there, -and they are very comfortable. They can be a bit expensive, but they often have sales in shops and online. The Nicola Jane site and one called (I think) Conturabelle, have quite good selections.

here you are Smee Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/07/2011 22:32

bras, flies, hair! haven't been about much to catch up- hope you get something nice topsy- did anyone mention Amoena ? (sorry, you may have-) but don't know if they have shops for fitting..was looking through their catalogue at piano lesson (as you do) I always rifle through their magazines while I'm waiting.
Am being ridiculously anxious about doing this website job- i think it's because I'm working for someone else, rather than myself,if that makes sense - but just have to plunge in. Have finished my ibuprofens 2 days ago and I'm aching badly again-ity did ease a bit while I was taking them, though was aware of sore hip. Shall I go back to GP ?

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 14/07/2011 22:35

Yes do go back MAS, there are loads of different anti-inflamms there might well be one that works better for you.

smee · 14/07/2011 23:03

Grin at spider - but Kurri, he has teeth!! Shock

Definitely go back to GP, MAS. No point not.

Off to watch Newsnight in bed now. Demise of Murdoch is top entertainment. Night all. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/07/2011 08:26

ok, so have appointment for this afternoon with a doc I don't know (mine on holiday) - appointments like gold dust,so grabbed it- hope it'll be ok !
lots of love to all today - esp those not feeling too good.

OP posts:
amberlight · 15/07/2011 09:57

MAS, yup, GP again.

Me, I'm baffled. I was given a contact card for my breast care nurse. I rang the number today - there's no cover on Fridays, so it tells me to ring oncology if there's a problem. I ring oncology and explain that I'm a bit puzzled that my resting heart rate is now around 100 rather than its usual 70-80. They tell me that if I have any worries, the right thing to do is always to contact the GP instead. So now I'm seeing the GP. So why are we given stuff that says contact the nurse or the oncology team for advice when their only advice is 'we don't know - see your GP'? Confused

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/07/2011 10:22

grrrr amber - how annoying and daft

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 15/07/2011 10:37

amber - that is annoying, you'd think the oncology unit would be open today and someone could have seen you. (Ours always seemed to have a kind of duty onc. on every morning and they would fit you in). I hope the GP sorts things out for you and puts your mind at rest.

MAS - also good luck at the GP's, it might be a really nice and helpful doctor that you're seeing Smile

I am so tired this morning, - don't know what's wrong with me, I didn't go to keep fit - couldn't get up Blush DD and I are going in for hairdos this afternoon, but I can't really be bothered, I'll probably nod off in the chair Grin

amberlight · 15/07/2011 10:38

It's a big private hospital rather than the NHS so suspect their oncologists are on a beach somewhere Confused

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/07/2011 10:41

thanks KK -hope so. Have a rest too and enjoy hair dos !
