new thread here !

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 11/07/2011 19:01

Hi all - I've been to yoga and then spent the afternoon shopping for a dress fro graduation day, which I finally managed to get, after trying on so many and looking awful in all of them, that I was on the point of giving up. I also bought some magic pants in the hope they can take a stone off my hips Grin

Sorry you're feeling rough Amber, hope it improves tomorrow.

MAS - poor DS, is so stressful - but I think they do make allowances for a bit of nerves. DD once had a mental block on the scales section of a trumpet exam - she got every single one wrong! - but she still passed, so he's probably done better than he thinks Smile

Smee -- I hope DS got on OK at the dentist, - I've got the dentist tomorrow morning so I sympathise with him.
You saying you get dizzy when you stand up from lying - do you have low blood pressure? - I used to have v,low BP and I always felt dizzy getting up.
But it could well be menopause type stuff - I do get a bit dizzy sometimes. (I started a thread yesterday about how much I hate the menopause - several people joined in the moaning Grin

Sparkle - your DH sounds as if he's trying very hard, - good for him. Money worries are very stressful though - we're not having a brilliant year either,so I know how it feels Sad We're having a quorn shepherds pie tonight, which will hopefully do 2 days.

Can the Dr. help your Dh with giving up smoking? - My DS's girlfriend has given up this year (she had a very bad asthma attack, DS took her t hospital and asked the Doctor to have a go at her about smoking, which he did, and she gave up. But she was given a sort of help pack, with tips for giving up and some nicotine patches etc.)

love to all Smile

smee · 11/07/2011 20:06

Phew, got through the dentist. He was a bit less stressed about it this time. Smile

MAS, that's a shame about DS's exam. Surely it's okay to make a false start if you correct yourself. I'd bet it's weighing heavily on his mind but won't count against him.

Amber, sorry you're being hit by the Tax. Do you know when you'll climb out of it again? Hope it's soon.

Kurri, bet the dress is perfect. When's the graduation - is it next week? I will start doing a sun dance for you. Low BP is something I suffer with, but it's different to that - more Vertigo than just dizziness, so the world spins in a rather alarming way. [whispers] but it's a bit like feeling very, very stoned. Definitely worse if I'm mid hot flush, and rare if I'm not having one, which is why I made the menopause connection. Might have to hot foot over to your other thread and join the moan. Grin tbh, all I really care is firstly that it's not cancer and secondly that it won't hit me hard, as I'd really like not to be ill again over the summer.

So positive thinking here - mind over matter and all that. Got DS through the dentist so we celebrated with jelly and ice cream. Am sure the dentist would have approved. Grin

smee · 11/07/2011 20:06

So pleased about the dentist I said it twice!!

KurriKurri · 11/07/2011 20:16

I'm sure it is nothing dreadful Smee - but like you I worry about every symptom of anything at all. The menopause has a lot to answer for IMO.

The graduation is on the 18th. To be honest, the dress is nothing special, but everything was so expensive in the big stores - even in the sales. And after trying on about a million dresses I was so hot and sweaty, I was going round the bend. So I bought it in a little ethnic sort of shop, - I can dress it up with a bit of jewellery and a shrug or a jacket, - going to look for shoes tomorrow (Oh joy!)

I'm glad DS got through the dentist OK - poor chap, it's horrid if you're frightened of them.

smee · 11/07/2011 20:20

I was very proud of him. She caught him with her pointy thing [technical term!] last time, and he wailed, so he was desperate not to go and had wound himself up about it. He came out v.proud of himself. Smile

KurriKurri · 11/07/2011 20:22

Thats great Smile - do they hand out stickers? (mine would tolerate quite a lot of poking for the promise of a sticker Grin)

smee · 11/07/2011 20:22

Shoe shopping's a nightmare, Kurri - I'm woeful at it. Atm, all I ever wear are Birkenstocks. Apart from that, I have not one pair of proper shoes that I like. Dress sounds good - I'd bet it will look better than a chain shop buy.

smee · 11/07/2011 20:23

x-posted, yes to stickers. Funny how excited they get about them. He gets two, so Ben 10 this time. he was over joyed, as last time they didn't have any.

KurriKurri · 11/07/2011 20:35

brilliant - he deserves an extra one for bravery Smile

I just hate shopping generally I think, I can't get anything very high heeled, because we've got to walk a bit to get to the graduation building - as there won't be any nearby parking unless you are a bigwig. Grin

DD says she's been sent a 10 page word document with instructions for the day, like 'at 1.31 p.m. proceed to the gown zone...' Grin

smee · 11/07/2011 20:43

I hate shopping too. We must have missed that gene. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/07/2011 07:40

well done junior smee !! and good luck KK !
Dress will be fab I'm sure kk-huge sympathies for shopping -it's very stressful I think, particularly when looking for something in particular- am better at just browsing around and seeing something -but I loathe trying things on -I hate the mirrors, the lighting, getting my clothes on and off -added to that the guilt of buying stuff when maybe I shouldn't ! And i never like special things I've bought afterwards. I only seem to have flipflops, some Birkies and my dear little boots and some very old Converses...and lots of old shoes under the bed just in case, but not worn any more.
Ds is still doing cooking in food tech- thought he'd finished- so this week it's Nigella's cupcakes !

amberlight · 12/07/2011 09:11

Morning all. I'm another one who hates shopping.

Feeling slightly better than yesterday, physically. Brain a bit fried after a day trying to deal with charitable stuff and the fallout from it though.
Brew available...

topsyturner · 12/07/2011 10:00

Ooh Brew
Cheers amber

I too hate shopping for clothes . Especially now I have the added restrictions on what fits right , post surgery !

Am sitting here waiting to see if my district nurses manage to make it to me this morning .
Living in Northern Ireland on the 12th July , oh the joys !
Idiots have been up rioting all night apparently Angry

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/07/2011 10:18

grrr on topsy's behalf- cupcakes coming your way after school...
amber- hope you carry on feeling a bit better today.
Am totally anxious about this website work- silly I know, but it's all a different way of working for me- there are schedules made by the designer- it's not much money and I feel sick with nerves- I know I can do it, on one hand, but can't help feel;ing huge anxiety about it. Sad

OP posts:
amberlight · 12/07/2011 10:35

MAS, not sure what the website work is going to involve but really hoping it goes ok for you...?

topsyturner · 12/07/2011 10:36

Its the doing of something new or different MAS
I get the same way . And then when you have actually done it , you wonder why you got worked up about it !

Extra Nigella cupcakes for you today methinks Grin

Nurse made it btw , got held up by one parade only . Hope the rest of her day goes smoothly !

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/07/2011 10:45

you are right topsy- I do panic and then later realise it was all ok- I suppose it's better than being complacent !! extra cupcake sounds a good recommendation. Glad nurse made it !
And thanks for good thoughts amber Smile

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 12/07/2011 11:14

I am glad the nurse made it topsy.

Good luck working on the website thingy today MAS.

Can have a Brew, put me off doing the cleaning and ironing, cos I am knackered, and it all seems too much today. , I know it is emotional exhaustion, anticpiation of Saturday's hospital visit for ds, and big BBQ for dh's work colleagues on Saturady afternoon, evening and for those who camp over, on sunday am too. I have a lot of food to prepare and a house to clean.

Well done junior smee for getting through the dentist Shock they ran out of stickers for the last tiome he went! That is breaking the dentist/child contract that it..Grin

cakesandale · 12/07/2011 12:06

Hello everyone, I just wanted to say Hi and i hope you are all OK. I will nip off and catch up with all your news before I post anything insensitive/irrelevant/both.

I will just say that on Saturday I frightened a man half to death - all I can say is, he looked just like DH from the back, so I thought I'd do something intimate to surprise him. Oh the shame. I am a laughing stock Grin

cakesandale · 12/07/2011 12:06

[hblush] Wish I'd seen these guys a few moments ago

SparkleRainbow · 12/07/2011 12:21

Oh Cakes, very very funny, but mortifying for you [hgrin]

smee · 12/07/2011 12:22

Cakes [hshock]!! Where were you and who was the lucky man?!

Amber, fill me a Brew. Sorry you haven't climbed out of Tax hit yet though. Must be hard to keep going when you're feeling so bashed by it.

Topsy, I was listening to the news this morning and wondering if you were anywhere near the riots. Marching season must be a nightmare. Sad it's getting worse, rather than better. Good that the nurse got to you though. How are you feeling? Not too bad, I hope.

I'm just back from a swim. Felt okay, no wobbles and now room is spinning a bit. Was a bit daft of me to go, but my ears feel blocked, so I'm more and more thinking it's just an ear infection. Feel quite delighted that it is. Grin Am off to Great Ormond Street later for Genetics Counselling. I've decided to find out if I carry the BRAC genes or not. Bit late for me, but might be good for DS to know, but more so for my niece. Should be interesting.

cakesandale · 12/07/2011 12:30

Good luck smee. Wouldn't that have been checked for originally though? I know I was tested automatically and found not to have it. I am glad you are feeling a bit better.

I don't know the man concerned at all - we were at an end of festival thing at our local pub and everyone was there, there were bands playing in the garden etc. I came out from the bar, saw a man who looked like DH from the back talking to some of our friends and just went for it. He was pretty surprised but took it in good part. Everyone else (including me) fell about but it was very embarrassing. I didn't even have the excuse of being drunk. Stone cold sober. I have had many, many texts from people who don't want to let me forget it.

smee · 12/07/2011 12:42

Grin about the man. Was he drunk? Can you pretend you were?!

The Genetics things's confusing, but my team didn't do it automatically, I had to badger them into it. Also, they'll only let me have the test if I go for specific counselling first, so they talk through how you might feel if you do have the BRAC gene fault/ what the implications are, etc before they'll test. They said they'd need to take bloods from both me and from my mother to get a result. Confused Interesting to hear they tested you at diagnosis. Strange how it's so different dependent on where you live.

SparkleRainbow · 12/07/2011 12:47

Postcode lottery strikes again. Good luck smee, knowing has got be to better than worrying.
