new thread here !

Outings sound v good to me ! and sportiness. I've only walked into town and back today-nothing too strenuous though we walked a fair bit yesterday at Petworth- was a lovely day out. Hip was aching though..definitely not being helped by ibuprofen so far (a week of it)

OP posts:
smee · 05/07/2011 22:41

I was going to ask you about your aches, MAS. It's a shame the ibuprofen aren't helping. Is it worse in the evenings? I know my feet (chief ache!) are horrible once I stop racing round. Also not good if I get up in the night, or first thing in the morning either. Feel like Granny Smee until I get going. Is your pattern similar. [scientific research!]

amberlight · 06/07/2011 07:19

Been awake nearly all night Hmm Tax aches started early plus steroid boost. Gone this morning thankfully.

Brew on.

pinkstarlight · 06/07/2011 08:23

topsy...will be thinking of you hope your first chemo session goes ok.

feel for anyone who is having bone aches, had them last time always a million times worse at night omg never had pain like it had me in tears.the doctor prescribed co dydramol because the bones in my feet and legs hurt so much i could hardly stand( i remember crawlling up the stairs at one point)they do do the trick dont suffer for 2 weeks like i did they can give you something.

smee · 06/07/2011 09:37

Amber and Pink, you are both nearly done and must feel exhausted. Bodies would ache even without the Tax truck. Brew and sympathy here if you need it.

And thinking so much of Topsy today. Have everything crossed for her getting a positive plan through.

pinkstarlight · 06/07/2011 10:06

smee..im managing so much better this round now they have lowered the dose a few sharp pains but i can cope with that.hope amber and mas are feeling better today.

KurriKurri · 06/07/2011 10:08

Thinking about topsy today and sending her good vibes, hugs and xx. And as Smee says everything crossed for good positive treatment plan from hospital.

Amber and Pink so sorry about the aches and pains, IME experience its all cumulative so as you are reaching the end of chemo, it feels more and more as if you've been hit by a truck. In fact I've seen a chemo t-shirt which says on the front 'as if I've been hit by a truck. How about you?' Grin
So Brew aplenty for all who need it (can I tempt anyone with a crumpet and strawberry jam?)

MAS, might be worth asking for something stronger for your aching hips. My mum went through various strength things, and has finally found that a stronger dose of codeine and Naproxen (sp?) are helping a bit. I seem to remember DH having naproxen for his bad knee too. Anyway don't put up with pain, they can find something more effective for you.

Blister update: (on the remote chance anyone is interested, and not thinking as DD said 'pull yourself together, its only a couple of blisters' Grin)
status: painful and having to walk on my heels!

love to all Smile

pinkstarlight · 06/07/2011 10:26

wandered back in to the safety of the tamoxifen thread, phew!!!

another valuable lesson i have just learnt do not try to eat a chocolate ecaire sweet unless you want almighty jaw ache if you have done tax within the last few days.

kurri...im glad its not just my son who thinks like yours, was called lazy this morning because i asked him to get his own watch from upstairs.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/07/2011 10:55

lots of good thoughts to topsy today x
and sorry amber and pink are aching Sad - must be a pain, literally.
KK - sympathy for your blisters ! tsk to dd for that Grin (I am like that if dh complains of anything !)
Ds is always very sweetly concerned if anyone's unwell-bless him.
Will see how the ibuprofens go -I have about a week left-then will review.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 06/07/2011 11:02

To be fair to DD, she did insist on carrying all the bags yesterday, and kept asking if I was OK. I think by 10 o'clock last night she'd had enough of me holding by foot up and shouting 'Look at my blister!' in a very attention seeking manner Grin

Did the GP actually decide what was causing your aches in the end?

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/07/2011 11:09

he had no idea ! Am not keen on taking stuff anyway, esp if it does mask pain as I also think pain signals that something isn't quite right - what if my hip joint is crumbling ? Am not unduly worried, just annoyed that walking is accompanied by an ache.

OP posts:
smee · 06/07/2011 12:58

Aches are so annoying. Do you find your DH's suffer from them? Mine is incredible in that he says he's never had an ache, apart from the occasional pulled muscle. Even before chemo and all my back problems, I always seemed to ache somewhere. Maybe my hormones have never fed my body properly. Maybe that's why I got BC. [wanders off pondering..]

KurriKurri · 06/07/2011 13:04

My DH often has aches and pains. I think they are mostly to do with the fact that he's very tall and sits in a very hunched up position when he drives and also he uses the computer a lot at work and at home.

I do ache a lot, it takes me ages to get going in the morning I find, I just feel so stiff, and my legs get restless and twitchy by about 8 at night. I refuse to accept it is old age.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/07/2011 15:05

oh dh often has knee and shoulder aches but I have never been any achy person except for sometimes, and not very often- awful rib pain which my doctor many years ago said was fibrositis -I think it comes of being hunched over a desk and the muscles in my ribs cramping- it horrible but infrequent. So this is really unusual for me. Dh goes to trhe osteopath every so often to get corrected !

I'm baaa-aaack Grin

1st round of chemo completed .
All went fine , apart from me having a minor wobble at the beginning .
Think it was just the fear of the unknown , and being told I have crap veins !

And why did no one tell me about the steroids ???
That was the most peculiar sensation as it went in Blush

Have a little baggie of oral steroids and anti sickness pills .
But I can honestly say I feel fine at the minute (physically at least) , hopefully I can still say the same thing tomorrow !

Hope everyone is having a good day , and all the bone aches and killer blisters are easing !

I am having my ears burnt off by my 8 year old daughter with all her nattering , so I will have to go now .
See you all later .

smee · 06/07/2011 17:39

Yeay for Topsy!! Really well done. It is a bit terrifying first time, but now you know what to expect, next time will be so much easier. I don't remember having steroids on FEC. Why the Blush?! My only tip is to take whatever anti-sickness tablets they've given you even if you don't feel sick. It's far easier to prevent it, than to stop it if it starts. Fingers crossed it won't. You deserve a bit of luck. Smile

On your DH's aching, well that blows my theory. My DH must be an alien or something, as he never aches. He's gone off cycling to see the Tour de France today. Cycling down to Portsmouth, then overnight ferry with no cabin or anything booked, so he'll get no sleep. My idea of hell, but he was v.cheery. Confused

KurriKurri · 06/07/2011 17:41

Well done topsy, don't worry about the wobble, they see plenty of those Smile and if they think there will be a vein problem see if they'll give you one of those line things so they don't have to mess about looking fro a vein each time(sorry mind gone blank regarding the proper name). Another tip where woolly gloves so your hands are nice and warm.

I'd forgotten the steroid thing Grin

Hoping you don't get any of the horrid side effects just take it a day at a time and see how you feel, pace yourself and make sure you have a rest if you're feeling tired. xx

topsyturner · 06/07/2011 17:42

The steroids are given as part of the anti sickness drugs .
And they make you feel like your fanjo is on fire for about 30 seconds !!!

Make sure you take advantage of dh being away , and starfish in the bed tonight !

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/07/2011 17:45

hey well done topsy - am a bit alarmed at burning lady bits though -eek !

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 06/07/2011 17:48

Smee - when I had mine (when I had CMF) they inject you with something that makes your bottom tingle for a few minutes. And usually announce it loudly 'This is going to make your bottom feel a bit like you've sat on a stinging nettle' so everyone stares at you as you try not to wriggle in the chair Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/07/2011 17:53

lordy !
Hope Mr smee enjoys his trip to France Grin
Have been blown out for lunch next week by my friend who 'has a scrabble date' !! I told her lunch would be much more amusing - to be fair, she doesn't like travelling anywhere so prob. an excuse, though she could have had a lift with my other friend. Bah !

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 06/07/2011 18:13

Cycling to watch the tour de france....that is a bit keen!!

Talk of Cambridge is making me misty eyed for uni days, punting, the back bathed in dafs, early mornming trists....4 hour lectures, mind blowing supervisions, thesis writing, proof reading, rewriting, rewriting again.... oh my god I am so glad I have left those days behind me!!!

Shock at shocking blisters, what were you doing woman, tottering around in high heels? Grin

Think chickens suspect I have a favourite, but are in group denial, but of course she is my fave, when I used to let them "long range" she would wait at the door for me to come out of the house, and follow me around the veggie patch, and she answers to her name when I call her! Which my dh couldn't believe when I called her to me the other day, cos he had never seen it before....hmm we have had chickens for 5 years, he wanted them, he was going to clean them out, he was the expert.....he has never cleaned them out yet.........Grin

KurriKurri · 06/07/2011 18:18

No, flats Sparkle - ones I normally find very comfortable. - At least it gave me lots of excuses to sit down and have a cup of tea Grin

DH has a dinner to go to tonight (he hates them, worries about saying the wrong thing) but at least he'll get a nice meal. He'll be very jealous of your DH going to see the Tour De France Smee.

SparkleRainbow · 06/07/2011 18:25

tea with cake too I hope Kurri Grin

KurriKurri · 06/07/2011 18:43

Oh yes Grin
