KurriKurri · 24/05/2011 14:51

I love those paintings MAS - beautiful - he is so talented, you must be very proud of him (and he of you Smile).
Boo to the RA - I will also boycott!

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/05/2011 14:54

thank you KK - he is very talented but very modest about it -am v proud !

smee · 24/05/2011 14:58

Let's get a grip on Picnics - perfect distraction. I have my rug and am ready to go. What shall we take? Smile

Cakes, I'm woeful on technical things too - makes me cross to the point of fury when I can't make things work, but DH very good, so I let him patronise me fix things. Grin

Kurri, I like the sound of that song. Grin Relieved to hear your DS was similar. DS won't part with anything, not even when it's broken.

Am a bit in Shock as DH's nephew and partner had a baby yesterday, which of course is lovely, but it means I'm a Great Aunt. Does this mean I am finally a grown up? Should I knit myself a shawl?! Grin

cakesandale · 24/05/2011 14:59

Boo hiss to the RA. Off to take a look

smee · 24/05/2011 14:59

MAS, x posted. They're extraordinary. G'ah to the RA. i will boycott too.

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/05/2011 15:01

great aunt smee !! My cousin's dd is visiting from Canada this week and she has just become a grandmother (and is younger than me by about 7 years) -eek,eek...

OP posts:
smee · 24/05/2011 15:01
  • I still have all my own teeth. Grin
cakesandale · 24/05/2011 15:02

I really, really like them, especially the one with the boy looking down through the water.

A great aunt, smee? Good grief that does sound old. (Sorry) Older even than a grandlmother, not sure why. No, no shawls, don't give in - be disgraceful not graceful.

Picnic items - well ginger beer definitely, nice salads, lovely crusty bread, berries, and Pom Bears. Not sure why, but we always have Pom Bears on a picnic, though not at any other time Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/05/2011 15:03

there should be egg sandwiches I think, def some cucumber ones

OP posts:
smee · 24/05/2011 15:13

I always aim to be disgraceful, Cakes. Wink

Cherries - a big bowl full.

KurriKurri · 24/05/2011 15:24

Great Aunt Smee Shock congratulations - but you will have to grow whiskers and insist on being kissed by reluctant children Grin

Definitely ginger beer for the picnic (the home made kind that always explodes Grin)
I will bring a couple of quiches and some buns (and iced gems for children) I also have plastic cutlery if needed Grin (I've got metal cutlery too we're not completely bonkers!)

smee · 24/05/2011 15:28

Iced gems?! Am on my way. [charges, scattering children]

Whiskers sound attractive, Kurri. Grin Does GA status mean I have to wear big pants?

MaryAnnSingleton · 24/05/2011 15:31

yes,absolutely.
Can we have those Munchmallows -with the red and silver foil ?

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 24/05/2011 15:32

btw - fish pie is home and upright- he left out the cheese- and has announced that he won't be eating any because of the mashed potato and white sauce.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 24/05/2011 15:38

Oh yes - big pants are essential (and an ancient packet of parma violets to keep in your bag and pop into unsuspecting young mouths Grin)

smee · 24/05/2011 15:42

Will start using real hankies too. Obviously regularly wet with spit to wipe imagined dirt from young mouths.

MAS, yes to Munchmallows, but not to the Fish Pie. Think that should be declared a health hazard. Grin

amberlight · 24/05/2011 16:35

Back from first tax...felt very Envy at times despite the antisickness stuff and now really tired, but do-able. Used the frozen gloves and frozen sweetcorn for the feet tricks, so we'll see if that works or not for stopping nail problems. Blood counts dropping over time so they're standing by with the potions and needles for that if needs be.

Sitting here with feet up and ginger beer on standby.

Big pants??! Do we have to? I'm pretending I'm slim and only need little ones Grin

SparkleRainbow · 24/05/2011 16:55

Congratulations GA smee, only need big pants if they are those figure hugging ones.......or is that just me! Blush Your dh's nephew must be very very young, and of course your dh married a much younger woman didn't he, so technically you are the same generation as dh's nephew(Does that helpWink?)

I too am a luddite, and as such always available to commiserate over lack of understanding and inability to work anything technical including video recorder!

Picnic where, when...... Cake for picnic please, some of the nice lemon drizzle cake, and is it too early for a spot of something sparkly? Strawberries too would be nice. It has been a tough day, I think we have earned it. We can put yours on ice amber until you are feeling up to it!

SparkleRainbow · 24/05/2011 16:57

MAS I love your father's paintings, I love the one looking beneath the boat it is amazing. The RA clearly have no taste, you are a very talented family. Big happy birthday to him too.

smee · 24/05/2011 17:03

Ug for you Amber. Sorry you felt grim during it. You are a trooper using those gloves. There's a lot that's absurd about BC imo. Just think though, that's another one done. Smile

You are spared big pants, and we'll save your share of the picnic 'til you're up for it.

SparkleRainbow · 24/05/2011 17:11

Hope you have your feet up amber, and that the Envy has passed for now. Did you get strange looks with your ice gloves and frozen sweetcorn? Now I shall have a serious word with the those blood counts of yours......
Seriously, hope you are ok xx

SparkleRainbow · 24/05/2011 17:13

I will wear two pairs of big pants for you.......cos I need them Blush Also spare pair can act as emergency tent in case of rain on the picnic!

amberlight · 24/05/2011 17:17

The nurses were more worried about the frozen stuff than I was. I'm fine with weird stuff in my life in a way Grin
I shall be having a serious word with my blood counts. Which word do we recommend? I can think of a couple of choice ones but not sure they're a good idea Blush

Figgyroll · 24/05/2011 17:29

Hope the Envy soon passes Amber. I'm having my second lot of FEC tomorrow and expect to be feeling a bit Envy too.

Well, the visit to the oncologist was a bit(very) disappointing. The ultrasound scan I had a couple of weeks ago showed that the lump has hardly shrunk at all, or the nodes. Sad She measured the lump and says there is hardly any change at all. I was expecting a massive shrinkage tbh. The trials nurse was so positive about the Avastin and the oncologist on previous visits had said how she felt the lump had shrunk so, to be told today that it hadn't much is awful. She told me off a bit for being down about it and said "clinically it has shrunk" whatever that means and has reassured me that the surgeon will still be able to perform a mastectomy. Oh well, onwards and upwards.
