THERE WILL BE CAKE LATER (coffee and walnut- and candles!) and he has an eclair to tide him over before piano lesson. He doesn't know whether to take sweeties in to school tomorrow for tutor time - he did last year- I think he just feels embarrassed and hates not to do the 'right' things- dafty.
Am Angry about that rotten, vile mouthed child attacking dd cakes - that is appalling Sad Hope there is suitable punishment. Hooray though for her award - clever girl-takes after her mum ! Well done for new work too- cracking !
KK - hope puppets are progressing- sorry this is a bit dashed as dh is looming.Back later....

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/06/2011 14:25

aww- dad has given me a bunch of peonies and some rose & violet creamsSmile

OP posts:
cakesandale · 08/06/2011 14:43

Oh bless your Dad - what a treat! Hooray for peonies, they are at their absolute best just now.

Coffee and walnut cake!!! my very favourite. Probably just as well I am not there....

I don't think there is anything quite as easily embarrassed as an adolescent boy. They make my heart ache, really. I am not sure what the protocol for birthdays is at that age, but I bet it's a minefield. Even the choice of sweet could be fraught with danger.

Thanks for caring about dd. I have known that other child since she was 2 - her behaviour was jaw-droppingly bad for a 2 year old, and it has not got any better with the passage of time. We try to laugh it off because all the other parents think she is appalling too, but I like her family. Some of them are good friends of ours, so it is hard.

SparkleRainbow · 08/06/2011 15:00

There is always room for you cakes on my patio/terrace/salon...... Grin

Sorry got to dash to get ds, and try and get some sense out of the school as to what they are intending to do to support ds through their stupid marathon of a sports days. Hmm

smee · 08/06/2011 15:07

MAS, your dad's so lovely. Peonies are wonderful - he's a man of taste. Smile

Am running off to get the egg stealer. Cakes, save me a piece of cake if you're still there. Smile

KurriKurri · 08/06/2011 19:12

My internet went off for the afternoon Confused - in case you all thought I was ignoring everyone Grin

Smee Grin at contract sting - excellent!

Cakes - your DD is very philosophical about ti all b y the sound of things. The other child sounds rather troubled, - but that's no excuse for being nasty to others.

I am sticking to my diet - I lost 2 pounds last week - which is less than I'd hoped but I guess it may be slow going. I think I need to up my excercise as well, but I've been doing so much sewing, I haven't been able to get out and about much. Next week I'll be free though and will get in a few swimming sessions.

Coffee and walnut cake is the best MAS, I hope he enjoys it. How lovely of your dad to bring peonies - they are so pretty, and violet creams - I know they are your favourite Smile

Hope the trip to school was successful Sparkle, and you've got sports day sorted.

Smee - let us know where the eggs are when you have finished cross examining the chief suspect Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/06/2011 19:29

oh yes, what has become of the eggs ?
Hope school sorted re sports day sparkle
Cake was yum- saved you all a smidge- washed down with dad's gin and tonics (strong) must try to meditate before supper. Absolutely love coffee and walnut cake! Ds really pleased with sky scraper book and his Mac Book (his main present from us and all his grandparents)

OP posts:
smee · 08/06/2011 20:17

A smidge of cake sounds perfect - even those on diets can eat a smidge. + Kurri, two pounds in a week sounds pretty good to me. Smile

Sparkle, hope you returned with a sensible plan. Sooner you move him the better. Smile

Quick update on egg rustling, which was first blamed on the cat. Relatively logical as he can sometimes open the fridge door. The Prosecution quickly flattened that one, as even a clever cat can't pick up eggs and move them elsewhere. Grin

Tactics quickly switched to an outraged tirade about how selfish it is to keep eggs purely for eating, as they have lots of other uses.Hmm Apparently they're very useful for experiments and 'other things'. [shudders] I decided ignorance is bliss, so have suggested if DS happens to find the eggs, maybe he could put them back. Will see if they're there in the morning.. Grin

Hope everyone's okay tonight. Am a bit concerned about Figgy, so sent her a message, but she hasn't replied yet. Figgy if you're lurking, I hope you're okay. Come and tell us when you can.

smee · 08/06/2011 20:17

MAS, great presents. Smile

sandripples · 08/06/2011 20:51

Hi, Just wanted to let you know that PG has really gone. We're all in recovery mode - extremely exhausting having this slightly weird extremely clever self-centred, slightly autistic very needy personality in the house, even for us and we're a tolerant bunch.

Wasps, stolen eggs, cake - have had a quick skim! Shock re that bully in your DD's school Cakes, but well done your DD for toughening up and dealing with her.

Diet almost back on track here but have just re-lost waht I regained last week IYSWIM

I was getting changed after hockey at school once - several wasp stings up my thighs and on my bum hopping round the changing rooms like a demented chicken as I didn't understand what was happening yes wasp had got into my tights while I was on the hockey field and was now stuck inside tights..... I'll leave you with that image...

pinkstarlight · 08/06/2011 22:06

smee...no i havent painted the shed yet to tired at the moment.

cakes...your poor dd glad shes ok.

topsy.. does sound like you over did it.

after 9 days of really painful bone aches i took my self to the gp just couldnt take it anymore, felt so daft did no more than burst into tears soon as i walked through the door. gp was lovely spent a long time talking to me ended up giving me a prescription for stronger painkillers and for anti depressents as he said it will help me get through the next few weeks not sure how i feel about that but im sick to the back teeth of feeling ill.not sure if im coming down with something as my temperature is up down but seems to have settled on normal this evening.

smee · 08/06/2011 22:25

Yeay, SR. Am pleased he's finally gone, though I hope too that he's gone somewhere you think is okay. You deserve a medal or something though - honestly, we've taken in some lost souls from time to time, but nothing on that scale.

[ouch] on the wasp in tights. Shock

Pink, poor you. Sorry about the aches. They don't call it the Tax Truck for nothing. Sounds like your GP was spot on. Rest up and take the pills. Am sure they'll help and I'd bet that cry did too. x

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/06/2011 22:35

oh pink, poor you- let's hope the painkillers and anti depressants do help...
SR - hooray for departure of PG - you are truly saintly -I don't think I'd be sane after one week of visitors
Am looking forward to hearing whether eggs are safely returned to the fridge !
Wasps- have just remembered wasp in my nightdress- put it on only to find wasp which stung me in several places - ow ! in the tights though is far worse Grin Mum had an allergic reaction to wasp sting once and had to go to hospital

OP posts:
cakesandale · 09/06/2011 09:48

Poor pink. Take the pills. It isn't for long, and if it helps over the next few weeks, then all power to it. There's no need to be so stoical, chemo is quite enough to be dealing with. And no thoughts of shed painting for a bit (unless you think it will give you a lift, in which case, go right ahead).

Smee - your ds does sound like a very clever boy. Does he watch CBeebies? I only ask because we caught a bit first thing this morning and they were talking about incubating eggs and seeing what happens. I don't think it was a programme, it was one of those links that they repeat endlessly. it may have spurred him on towards experimenting. It definitely struck a chord with ref to your ds when I saw it.

Yay to SR for the departure of the PG. He sounds hard to put up with. I hope he has gone somewhere nice and permanent.

And double yay for SR and KK's weight loss. i think I really have stalled. I have not eaten anything naughty for ages (apart from that smidge of coffee and walnut cake, which was only virtual, after all), I am going to have to examine portion size, and join you, KK, on the exercise truck. groan.

A wasp in the tights sounds awful, but probably very funny to watch. My dad had a wasp in his trousers once. I thought he was doing a funny dance for a moment. One of the funniest things I have ever seen. Grin I imagine he felt he had got his own back when I stepped on a bee barefoot later the same day. That was quite a summer Hmm

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/06/2011 10:13

oh yes,v good weight loss SR and KK - all we seem to have done is eat and drink stuff at our house this week and last...am being quite strict with what I have (ie one helping of the Indian take away though cannot resist naan bread) and one bit of bday cake- I don;'t believe in not having food you'd like but I ask myself whether I really want it/need it -seems a good strategy,I hope. Am very weak regarding things like my peanut butter eggs.

The lovely MAS has just sent me (or I have just received) a copy of her latest book, for dd's birthday. It's about being 8, so absolutely suitable!

It is fabulous. Thank you so much.

I am not sure I can wait until The Day so may have to give it to her. The karate kid on page 65 looks quite a bit like her, and the large dog on p 53 looks like our much-loved old hound....Smile

xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/06/2011 10:37

aww ! Smile

OP posts:
amberlight · 09/06/2011 10:43

pink, sending you Brew or Wine or whatever helps.

Why am I still working full time? Am I the only silly s*d in the entire world working through chemo, and if so, why am I doing so? OK, it's my own business and we're short staffed and there isn't a lot of choice, but even so...

Tired.

Think I'll have a Brew myself

cakesandale · 09/06/2011 11:15

Hi amber

I did the same thing, and i think smee and MAS did too - it's the curse of the self-employed, I think. Even more so if you have employees, which I don't. It is a tiring old slog though.

I'll join you in a Brew Is it possible for you to take a back seat and just look like you are there, once in a while? It may not be possible for you, but when I was going through it i found that it was possible to keep things ticking for a few days just by replying to emails. I looked more 'there' than I really was, IYSWIM.

Tough times.

smee · 09/06/2011 11:29

I'll join you for a Brew. Am eating toast with marmite too. mmmm..

Amber, yes I worked through too. Had a completely manic job on, which went through chemo. Was ridiculous in many ways and I was probably useless most of the time, but in other ways a brilliant distraction. You very much deserve that Brew though.

MAS, must get that book for DS next year. Can you tell me the title? Big congrats though - Cakes is a stern critic, so am sure it's brilliant.

Cakes, when's the big day then? Expect DD's ridiculously excited. Cute but annoying in equal measures when they're wound up like that. + yes, I know I am a grouch. Wink

Pinks really hope those tablets have kicked in. If they don't work go back to the doctors straight away. [stern]

No sign of the eggs yet - though a cryptic comment at breakfast makes me think there's still hope of a sighting. But more excitedly it's Olympics Day today, and we still don't know what sport Yr2 are demonstrating. Still hoping for synchronised swimming, though DS wants pole vaulting - he was practicing with a bamboo cane this morning, on my bed + yes I was still in it. [bruised]

amberlight · 09/06/2011 11:42

The trouble is that I have many staff, and a good few have specific disability-related needs etc that means if I'm no there, they can't work out how to navigate new hazards. So being in the office as much as poss really is important, otherwise the business is fairly scuppered. Think I'm just having a tired day when it all seems a bit much somehow.
Smee, pole vaulting on your bed???! Whatever next!

cakesandale · 09/06/2011 11:52

That's hard, then, amber. Be as good to yourself as you can though.

Smee, I hope ds gets his pole vaulting, Maybe then he'll leave you alone Grin Could the eggs be his contribution to the egg and spoon race? Or maybe he has been practising! Has the glue gone missing? Maybe he has a cunning plan to glue his egg to the spoon!

Dd's birthday is 23rd. Excitement is mounting already....

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/06/2011 13:04

I was thinking egg & spoon too !

poor amber -it is difficult, but make sure you can take more of a backseat when you are feeling rough.
this is the book smee
also available through Amazon etc...

OP posts:
smee · 09/06/2011 13:16

Is Egg and Spoon an Olympic Sport then?! Grin Good guess though Cakes as yes have just looked and the glue is missing. The plot thickens...

MAS, book looks brilliant, I'll definitely get it. Did you do the one for 9 year olds too?

Amber, take it easy if you can. Does sound difficult though.

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/06/2011 13:22

yes,9 year olds one too
