cakes Grin I have one of those cameras too!

KurriKurri · 07/06/2011 15:46

Hello all - I'm having a short tea break from puppeting. Yes I am in deadline panic mode as predicted Grin

Topsy - lovely to see you, I hope things are healing up nicely and you're not feeling too uncomfortable Smile - Take it easy now - no dashing around like a mad thing!

Amber - I think the sore/runny eyes are quite a common side effect - mine were more scratchy and I was given some drops to use, - so hopefully they can find you something to ease it.

MAS - lots of good vibes for your dad for his op. I hope it all goes well for him.

Sparkle - you are right about it being rewarding for DS, he says its great teaching prisoners, because they really want to be in the class - its a relief fro the everyday boredom that they go through. Also he thinks some of the teachers patronise them and assume they are stupid. Someone said to him ' you'll be lucky if you can teach them how to use full stops' , but DS did an Andrew Marvell poem and a John McRae etc. and they loved it and really got into analysing and discussing the poetry. One of them told DS he's copied out 'In Flanders Fields' and put it on his cell wall!

Cakes - you look lovely and not at all unlissome - you daft woman. Strong resemblance between mum and DD I think (which you should take as a big compliment as your DD is little stunner)

I'm glad you enjoyed Norfolk -luckily the weather was reasonable over the weekend (at least in my bit of the county).

DH came home at lunch time and said 'when I was driving along I felt a really sharp pain on my back' so I looked and there was a big red swelling, - I went to look in the car and there was a wasp on the seat - it must have been crawling on the back of his seat. Ow! Anyway he thought 'one of my kidneys had exploded' Grin - so he was quite relieved in the end!

SparkleRainbow · 07/06/2011 16:35

Shock and Grin at wasp and suspected kidney explosion!

SparkleRainbow · 07/06/2011 16:35

I'm glad he didn't crash the car!

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/06/2011 18:08

oh my Shock wasps !! am glad it wasn't kidney explosion though.
Cakes you look lovely,so no more silliness..
Dad safely back home- I left him at 1pm and waited until 4 at hospital but managed to read my book, drink a frappaccino and look at the health information point leaflets- I read about septicaemia and breast cancer -didn't want to look at cancer of the vulva (eeek) Was hoping my bcn might get away to have coffee, but she was in a meeting then in clinic. Dad is fine and very pleased that both eyes are done now !

Happy Birthday junior(ish) MAS! I am so glad your dad's surgery went well, it will make a huge difference to him I am sure. Smile

topsyturner · 08/06/2011 08:00

Happy Birthday Nearly Man MAS !!!!

Literally laughing out loud at the thought of kurri dh thinking one of his kidneys exploded Grin

Think I might have done a little too much yesterday .
Came over a little perculiar in Tesco yesterday evening and had to go and sit down for a while .
Came straight home , and was in bed asleep , an hour later .
And I slept straight through to 7.30 this morning .

Lesson learned , do not run around too much , less than 1 week after major surgery !

Saying that , I have a meeting at 11am today at my sons new school . (he starts grammar in September)
But my nephews meeting is at more or less the same time , so my brother in law is taking us , so I wont be knackering myself out again .

Hope you all have wonderful days .

SparkleRainbow · 08/06/2011 09:57

Topsy.....what were you doing at Tescos! I thought you were just popping out to the school to collect the children. Am I going to have to give you a serious talking to about taking care of yourself and giving yourelf time to heal!!! Wink

Right, after a manic day yesterday, am elbowing Sparkle off her south facing patio and grabbing a sun lounger. There is always sun there, am sure. And Sparkle always nips out with a Brew too, so am settled. Smile

Topsy, on behalf of Tamoxifen Ten I hereby ban you from Tescos. Grin Great to hear you're out and about, but a Brew and the sofa are most definitely calling you.

Amber, watery eyes are a bugger. I had them too. Not sure what you can do really, but it's worth asking.

Pink, am hoping you're not feeling sick anymore. Is the shed saffron yet?! Smile

Hooray - I can see you Cakes - even sideways you look great. And your DD doesn't half look like you - v.cute and obviously gorgeous.

Kurri, I think I want to be in your DS's classes - though maybe going to prison would be a step too far. Grin Hope puppets are going well. when do they have to be finished by?

Happy Birthday to MAS's not so little DS. 14's quite something. Is there cake?! [daft question]

I have a puzzle for you - have just opened the fridge to find the egg box open but empty. Which Detective Smee has deduced means DS has done something with the eggs. I can't find them. Any ideas?! Confused

SparkleRainbow · 08/06/2011 10:58

In his bed, with a hot water bottle, or and electric blanket on low in an attempt to hatch them?.....or is that just something my ds would do?

Open all doors carefully and look up in case of boobytraps containing eggs to catch all the bad guys?

I will ponder this challenge over a Brew, don't worry large patio means two sun loungers so plenty of room for both of us.

cakesandale · 08/06/2011 11:56

Eggs are being incubated somewhere, deffo.

I hope your gorgeous ds has a lovely birthday, MAS. 14 already! How grown up. Do 14 year olds still do birthday cake? I do hope so, for all concerned. I am glad your dad's eyes are sorted, and hope he is feeling up to a slice and to joining in with celebrations.

YIKES!!!! to a wasp on the car seat. Your dh was lucky not to crash the car! I had one inside my gym bottoms once, years ago, when i went to the gym. It stung me on the hip bone (could have been much, much worse Grin ) and it was sooooo painful. It taught me to shake washing out when i take it off the line, I can tell you. Good luck with the puppets.

Topsy I am with the others. Tesco is a major no-no. As if major surgery wasn't an excellent excuse to avoid the supermarket shop!

Thank you for nice comments about my photo, and dd. I just have to get them the right way up now. I'm on it. I have just got a new piece of high tec business so I seriously need to up my game - and fast!!!!!! Aaaargh!!! Three weeks to drag myself into the brave new world before I start!!

Yesterday dd had one of those 'good in parts' days that little kids so often have. On the down side a very, very unpleasant girl who we have a lot of trouble with pinned her to a wall, kicked her and shouted 'Whatever, minger' in her face (I'd normally do a shocked face here, but with this kid we really need a 'nothing new there' face). On the other hand, dd got a head teacher's award for her story on superheroes, which gave the day a much better complexion, and overall she was smiling. Grin

smee · 08/06/2011 12:36

Yeay for Cakes getting more work! Bit shocked by that feral kid your DD got biffed by though. Sounds pretty nasty to me. What do the school do - hope they're onto it bigtime. Great she got a Head Teacher's award though. Mighty good timing I'd say. Smile

On the eggs, my first thought was incubation, so have looked under cushions, in beds, etc. Sparkle, you might be onto something with the booby-trap idea - totally up his street, so it's a good job I'm on your patio. You'll keep me safe. Grin

KurriKurri · 08/06/2011 12:49

I am intrigued by the egg mystery - where can they be if not incubating?
I once found a large stain on my DD's wall, and upon inquiring where it had come from, the children confessed they had been throwing satsumas at each other and one had hit the wall! [out of control kids emoticon Grin)

Cakes - what a vile child to attack your DD - is it the same one she has had trouble with before? I hope the school are sorting it out. "Whatever minger" - where do children get these awful expressions?

But well done on her HT award - that will have cheered her up Smile

I am pulling up a sun lounger on the patio too Sparkle and Smee if there is room, do you mind if I sew while we slurp Brew and natter?

DH was lucky not to have an accident - wasp stings are damn painful. Mind you he milked it for all he was worth. At midnight I asked 'does it still hurt?' and he answered in a feeble but brave voice 'yes it does a little bit'. Grin

I think the chances of getting him to look in the loft for the hornets is very slim now. He has sprayed something into their entrance hole though.

SparkleRainbow · 08/06/2011 12:50

Yep I am an old hand at searching out booby traps, of the made by small boys kind! You are safe with me! Grin

Shock at little thug at your dd's school cakes!!!!!! I hope the school are doing something proactive and effective about it! Big cheering emoticon needed for Headteacher's award though Grin

SparkleRainbow · 08/06/2011 12:53

"he answered in a feeble but brave voice 'yes it does a little bit" I can so picture this Grin

Yes I am guess his confidence to deal with raging hornets is somewhat reduced now!

Plenty of room on my patio.....sorry my mother tells me it is a terrace.....who knew there was a social hierarchy for paving! Grin

Have benches, loungers and sun umbrella if you feel a little warm.

smee · 08/06/2011 12:59

Excellent, Kurri's joined us. You should tell your mum it's a salon, Sparkle.

Damn about the Hornets, Kurri. You're right, he won't go near them now. I reckon the Hornets paid the wasp. A contract sting..? Grin

Had a brainwave about the eggs, so looked in the oven, but nope. Not there..

amberlight · 08/06/2011 13:13

Cakes, that's horrifying about the bullying - really hope they sort it out.... Sad

Afternoon all. Hope you're having a day free of side effects/filled with something enjoyable. Been round a friend's house for coffee, now back in the office and feeling fine today. Tried some spray-on eye drops which seem to be helping a lot with the watery eye thingy (hurrah!)

SparkleRainbow · 08/06/2011 13:22

Grin contract sting Grin am in danger of ending new underwear Blush

should I say "It's a salon, darling" to her!

amber - you are right it is bullying isn't it. I hope they are dealing with it. I am gald to hear the eye drops may have helped, now don't work too hard, pop over to my salon for a Brew when you can........darling

SparkleRainbow · 08/06/2011 13:27

needing, not ending and glad not gald......useless

cakesandale · 08/06/2011 13:36

Hurrah for sorted-out eyes, amber.

I want to join you all on sparkles' patio/terrace/whatever. Is there room? I can bring chocolate cake!

I can also see your dh being brave in the middle of the night, KK, he does sound like mine. Mind you, I expect the sting had had quite a bit of time to work before you found it, so it probably is most ouchy. Agree the hornets will now live to fight another day. They are buggers as well. Sad

KK - how's the diet? Mine is OK but weight loss has still stalled. Obviously I won't be having a slice of that cake Sad

Smee, you have to tell us when the eggs get found. I am intrigued.

The horrible kid IS the one that dd has had trouble with before. The school do tell her off a lot but it seems not to work. I think there is something not right with her, she is SO aggressive and there always seems to be conflict and trouble when she is about. The problem is her Mum doesn't discipline her at all. A couple of weeks ago the kid's mum apparently witnessed her brat dd snatching something off my dd, and she didn't do or say anything. So I imagine the kid things it is OK to behave that way. Also, whenever the kid gets a big telling off at school - a head teacher one rather than a dinner lady one - the Mum phones the head and claims her daughter is being victimised. I kid you not. I despair.

Dd's Ok though. It has happened so often she has toughened up a lot, and these days she usually treats it as just one of life's little irritations Grin On the plus side, dd is quite popular and there's usually someone around to help her fight her corner. But this kid seems to have fewer and fewer friends, which is very sad for her, and is likely to make her worse, I guess.

cakesandale · 08/06/2011 13:37

'contract sting' is excellent - well done, smee!
