Woo-hoo - great news just in. BF is pregnant, which is huge as she's had 4 miscarriages over 2 years. She's just had a viability scan at 7 weeks and there's a strong heart beat. First time she's ever got this far, and yes okay she's got a way to go, but am so incredibly pleased for her.

Cakes, you're making a mosaic floor. Shock Am hugely impressed..

Cakesandale · 04/02/2011 12:03

Fantastic news.

KurriKurri · 04/02/2011 12:10

Great news about your friend Smee - how wonderful for her, I hope it all goes really well for her.

talking of babies reminds me I will become a great auntie again soon (I already have a 2 yr old great niece) another niece's baby is due mid feb. - Great Aunt Kurri does sound ancient impressive Grin

Cakes I am thinking maybe something like a rounded end container - a oval margerine tub, or one of those oval plastic ice cream containers, then shape the back end so its open, and paint, couple of holes in the front for reins for the horses and cardboard wheels attached with split pins. Has DD got a toy horse to pull it (My little pony might do in an emergency Grin)

Cakesandale · 04/02/2011 12:18

Massively impressed by the creativity KK - but our model is a bit smaller than you are thinking, I reckon - it fits inside a shoebox - a very large shoe box, but still quite a bit smaller. Shame, I like the idea of a margarine tub chariot. I won't tell dd - she'll want to start all over again, only bigger Grin

KurriKurri · 04/02/2011 12:33

Can you tell I have years of making bizarre vehicles out of household objects Grin shoebox size makes it even more of a challenge, maybe you could fashion something out of card ?

In my time we have had to produce a working model trebuchet, a 'world in a shoebox' (nightmare), a dinosaur made out of vegetables and God knows what else. Plus the usual costumes for plays/nativities etc. (usually expected for the next days!) It's so nice when homework stops being 'make something' Grin

KurriKurri · 04/02/2011 12:33

Ooh - a matchbox maybe?

Cakesandale · 04/02/2011 12:38

Matchbox - that would be about the right size. I'll have to get one though .

A dinosaur made out of vegetables???!! Good grief, did having drug addict teachers affect the dcs' exam results much? Grin

Incidentally - congratulations (if that's the right word) on becoming a great aunt again. It does sound old, especially as I know you don't look it.

KurriKurri · 04/02/2011 13:07

ooh look Wine - that's nice Grin

Cakesandale · 04/02/2011 13:10

Hadn't spotted that - excellent! Though personally I like it more like this Wine Wine Wine

smee · 04/02/2011 13:22

Friday night so definitely Wine x 3!!

Okay, am obsessing, but just mentioning that Lump book has reminded me how bad I thought it was, so I googled it and it's on-line too. Apart from anything else it's so sexist. My main objection is it pre-empts so much grumpiness and worry.

MAS you could do a far, far better version. Smile

KurriKurri · 04/02/2011 14:13

Can't get an appointment to see my GP until the 14th - he's away at the moment apparently.

I also had to listen to a ten minute lecture from the receptionist on how to use the new automated booking system - presumably they are touting this so they never have to talk to plebs like me again! So cross I've eaten an Aero Blush

Cakesandale · 04/02/2011 14:18

Is there no-one else? That's nearly a fortnight!!!!!

Presumably the automated system is run entirely so that the receptionist doesn't have to be accountable for a crummy system that keeps people waiting 2 weeks for a bloody appointment Angry

smee · 04/02/2011 14:24

Kurri, that's daft. Why not get an emergency appointment - just tell the receptionist you fainted - you don't need to tell her when. Two weeks is far too long to wait.

KurriKurri · 04/02/2011 14:31

I'd really prefer to see my own doctor Smee (an emergency appointment is only about 3 mins here - and you get a piece of paper with the shirty message 'don't you dare mention more than one complaint to the doctor, this is an emergency appointment' handed to you at reception on the way in Grin

I could ask for a longer appointment with a different GP, but my GP knows me so I won't have to 'explain' everything so much.

Actually I've just remembered I've got an oncology appointment on the 16th - might as well just wait for that!

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/02/2011 14:37

yes, agree with smee - emergency appointment if only to put your mind at rest.
Congratulations to your friend too smee - let's hope it all goes smoothly for her and hooray for great aunt KK Grin
Am impressed by Roman villa building and mosaic flooring- have you remembered the hot water system ?
I remember making ds a laurel wreath out of felt leaves and elastic for Roman day - he looked very sweet in his cot bed sheet.
Haven't looked at Mummy's Lump yet but it sounds dire -I want to go for a positive, practical angle. I will finish the books I'm on now and then focus on gathering information from you all,if that's ok-and seeing what direction seems best.
Had nice time seeing mum-my friend Sarah popped by and we ate warm croissants and cheese with coffee. Mum able to manage her stairlift to the loo perfectly fine and is doing stuff around the kitchen- will look in at 4 just to check all is well- dad home by 6 ish.
Wine Wine Wine !!!

G'ah to receptionists. Kurri, I know what you mean - I've got a doctor I always prefer to see too. Could you leave him a message asking him to phone you? My surgery don't seem to mind that. I've done it a couple of times when there wasn't an appointment free, but I had a niggling worry. Doctor's always been fine with it.

Cakesandale · 04/02/2011 14:58

I agree KK - make a nuisance of yourself.

Roman hot water system!!! Nooooooooo!

KurriKurri · 04/02/2011 15:02

Ooh that's a good plan Smee I will phone on Monday. I am thinking he might want to check my thyroid etc, - I might be able to get blood tests booked at least.- (He comes back on Monday but has no free appointments all next week.) Will write down a list of symptoms and read them to him over the phone (serves him right for going away Grin)

SparkleRainbow · 04/02/2011 18:13

Hi everyone

I have had to read so much, and laughed very hard at many of your wonderful comments Smile

I have missed saying good luck to LJ.....I hope she is ok, surrounded by luxury, attentive nurses, trashy mags, good tv - although slightly concerned for her stitches by the hint of slightly rude upmarket entertainment...... or is it just me that laughs Blush I have my fingers and toes crossed for her.

I have been flat on my back for most of the last three days, came down with another bout of raging tonsillitis (must spell check how to spell it Blush) Gp came out to me yesterday, brought me anti bios and feeling better today.

Cos it is friday night Wine Wine Wine Grin that is me covered for the evening!

KurriKurri · 04/02/2011 18:21

Bad luck with the tonsillitis Sparkle - you didn't need that on top of everything. Glad the AB's are working. Have a good weekend Smile

SparkleRainbow · 04/02/2011 18:51

Thank you, just having to ring round all the parents of children my ds upset today! Sad Angry Have given him a right royal rollicking too.

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/02/2011 19:03

oh poor Sparkle- get well soon Smile Wine

KurriKurri · 04/02/2011 19:03

Oh no - did he have a bad day today? Sad maybe the weekend will give him a little break to settle down again.

KurriKurri · 06/02/2011 14:34

bump - we're slipping off the page!

sandripples · 06/02/2011 14:44

Slipping off the page - shock!

Just reporting that I am continuing with my regime. Have lost a few more lb I think and have been to gym and pool this w/e. And do you know what I think I feel some benefits now - hips not so sore when I get up each time. So I'll try to keep going.

Next week-end we're going to Spain so I might take my foot off the pedal bit - its not so easy when you're out and about, is it.

Delighted that one of you thinks you have seen the cave hotel - sorry can't recall who and it was pages ago. I'll report back - its not expensive but I hope will be fun for us.

Am feling a bit guilty today - DH and I have been discussing new decor for our living room. We can never agree on whats tyle we will have, so I don't enjoy this. Had a slightly tetchy discussion over breakfast. Anyway we've just been to choose some paper and he just agreed with my choice without further discussion. Do you think he's just caved in on the grounds of life not worth the argument?!
