Am off shortly to meditation day...

WI !!!!!

KurriKurri · 21/11/2010 16:26

Pleased you enjoyed the show RWU sounds as if you had a great time. And don't be Blush about joining the WI I think there are lots of younger women there these days, especially in country areas. I'm considering joining ours sometime,- someone I know in the village wants to join but doesn't want to go on her own!

And you don't look chunky you foolGrin

I hope the mindfulness day went well MAS and you are feeling calm and settled. Smile

It is my lovely Dad's 90th birthday today, he is apparently sitting in his chair, wearing the cardigan I knitted him, eating chocolates (which DS sent) and saying 'who are all these cards for? It can't be me I'm not 90' Smile Sister has made him a cake, with a candle to blow out, so I think he is having a nice day Smile

Hope everyone has had a good weekend, and that you are feeling a bit better CC.

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/11/2010 21:25

Happy Birthday KK's dad !! tht's a great age to have reached-hope he's had a fab day.
Am totally done in after 7 hours of meditation and mindfulness - it was really good, will report once I feel more awake !

cupcaked · 21/11/2010 23:09

Echo that happy birthday to KK's dad, I can just imagine him in his birthday cardi looking v pleased with himself. What a nice present to get, good for u KK. One of my fellow choir mums is knitting me a scarf this week and I am most touched. Must say, much as I love all the hand cream and flowers and candles and things that people so kindly send me, it is the made stuff that gives me such a lump in throat such as casseroles and plates of fudge and the like, and now a scarf. It's such an intimate thing to do for someone. Good on ya KK, Cardigan is no mean undertaking!

Thanks for the good wishes, all. Got out of hospital today, wound looks great, long may it last. They cut out a lot of nasty inflamed bits and I am hoping (indeed anticipating) that the pathologists will find only nasty inflammation and nothin else. Am so happy to be home and well, will be happier when I hear those results..

Glad u enjoyed Blood Bros RWU, I saw it years ago and loved it. iPhone not great for looking at photos, must head to laptop to see all the photos of chunky thighs and red raincoats! I have had so many different looks this year between real me, shiny bald, wig, and now sinead o connor, I really wouldn't know what image of me to show you at the minute. Maybe I will
wait until the next one. Going to bleach my hair or dye it purple or something for Xmas, that way it might just look more like it's extremely short on purpose..?

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2010 07:00

great to hear that wound is so much better cupcaked and that you're home again. You're right- home made presents are so lovely and touching !

Hmm- Christmas ideas for cupcaked's hair...you could brush through some glitter-would look amazing on bleached hair (like snow !)

OP posts:
cupcaked · 22/11/2010 10:22

Great idea MAS! The glue one might be a bit messy, but maybe I could mix it with hair gel, tho I don't want to damp down what little I have. Maybe a little cake decoration tree? Or a robin?? I had lovely plastic robins for my Yule log a couple of years ago, remember sending husband on a panic mission on Xmas eve, in the days when things like that seemed so important! Wonder will I fuss less about Christmas this year. Any experience from those of you diagnosed and off treatment before last Christmas? (Christmas on treatment must be a whole nother ballgame, can imagine u wud want it all to go away- SR weren't u diagnosed just before Xmas or have I got that wrong?)

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2010 10:41

there maybe special hair glitter ,like mascara...

Great that you have been 'released' CC Grin and really pleased your wound is looking good, hopefully they have it sorted this time Smile

Christmas - my first one I'd had chemo on the 23rd dec. so was pretty much out of it! what shopping I'd done was online, DS made Christmas dinner, I lay on the settee and then went to bed!
Second one I was pretty laid back about, I somehow didn't feel the usual pressure to get everything done, but I was quite well by then, so able to do what I wanted, - but much better at delegating than I had been before Grin

Glitter in the hair would look nice, or maybe a glittery hair band. But you've got another four weeks of hair growing before Christmas - you might be surprised at how much you have by thenSmile

MAS - I'm glad your day went well, but can appreciate you feeling exhausted, - that was a long day! But I'm so pleased it has been such a good thing for you Smile

DD leaving on a lunchtime train, so I'm off to make a few sandwiches for her.

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 11:04

Busy on here, then! Glad to see you back, cupcaked, and to see that the wounds look better. I think anything you put in your hair should be very gentle at this point, so a bit of soft fairy dust type glitter or a glittery band would get my vote. Def don't colour it yet.

RWu looks fab on a horse, and definitely NOT thunderous of thigh. I am a bit depressed by how nice and slim she and MAS look in their pics. I'm not putting a photo of me up, not until that fat bat who keeps appearing in every photo I have taken gives up and goes away.

I can't even begin to list all the crap I have eaten this weekend.

Quick update to forewarn MS - I am finally going to have my third eye thing removed tomorrow morning. There may be blood...

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 11:04

That should say MAS, of course....

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2010 12:02

brave Cakes ! how strange you should write this-I was just emailing a friend who'd fainted after tearing ligaments about fainting while lying down after head bump removal. Lots of luck tomorrow,am sure it'll be fine and dandy.
Yesterday,on reflection was very good - lots to think over and things to use when meditating. We were silent all the time which was odd- lunch was eaten mindfully and slowly- like being in a retreat !
Ds sent home from school as he is poorly - I sent him in today even though he wasn't very well,so now feel terrible-poor boy.

OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 22/11/2010 12:13

Feel terribly sickSad

Not sure if it the meds or the fondant fancy I just ate.....Blush

How is everyone doing today?

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 12:16

Poor ds Sad

Am sure he'll rally.

Yesterday sounds fab: I have always fancied a bit of a retreat. I bet it's a struggle to sustain it though. If this keeps up you'll be laid back and calm as anything!

Eating frenzy continues, and as I've just heard we are heading for snow before the end of the week, I think I'll just keep it up for now...

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 12:18

Cross posted, sparkle. Do you think it might be stress? Could easily be the meds of course (but the fondant fancy is likely to be innocent, especially if a yellow one as they are the most fab Wink).

Eat something very bland and sit and have a rest for a bit.

it's a pig, isn't it?

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 12:18

Do you have any peppermint tea?

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2010 12:22

mm,peppermint tea is very soothing-- might be anxiety and antibiotics- am sure the fondant fancy is entirely innocent ! I like pink or yellow best.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 22/11/2010 12:39

Good luck tomorrow Cakes - I'm sure all will be fine, - is it at the GP or the hospital?

Sorry DS is poorly MAS, hope he's feeling better soon.

Sparkle, it might well be the meds. especially if you are on a fairly hefty dose. Peppermint tea is good, so is ginger tea. Or sometimes just a plain biscuit like a rich tea can settle things down. Peppermint sweets to suck might help too.

I like the yellow and pink FFs, - Not the chocolate ones though. (of course I will eat them in an emergency)

DD managed to get a splinter of glass in her foot just as she had to leave for the train. I managed to fish it out and douse her with antiseptic, but she'll be pushed to get the train she intended.

I was going to have a caramel snack a jack with my cup of tea, but the phone went and when I came back it had gone from the coffee table. I asked the dog if she'd taken it, - she said 'no' but the crumbs in her beard said 'yes' Grin

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 12:52

Grin my dog used to get a mad look in his eye whenever there was food (or our guinea pig) about. And his head used to start moving almost imperceptibly forward.... and then blammo! it was gone (we always managed to save the guinea pig, luckily)

The head lump thing is just at the GP's. I think it is a cryogenic thing, like when they do warts and verruccas. I am quite excited: can't wait to get rid of the damn thing. We have some people coming round for a drink tomorrow night who we haven't seen for about 15 years, so I'll look doubly alarming - twice as wide as they remember, and with a large plaster on my head Grin They'll surely think the years have not been kind (rather as i did when I saw Heaven 17 on Children in Need on Friday - bloody hell)

smee · 22/11/2010 13:04

Sorry you're feeling sick, Sparkle. I'd go for Peppermint tea too, but if you can't stomach that try and down lots of water, as that always seems to help me. How many more days of antibiotics have you got to get through?

MAS am not surprised you're wiped out. Be very interested to hear more when you've recovered. Have never been at all tempted before, but I do think I need to take time to work out how I feel about all of this, and can't seem to sit still long enough to even begin to think.

Cupcaked, hooray you're home! Am sure the results will be fine, though that pesky Paranoia's bound to be lurking until you know - you wouldn't be human if not. Sparkly hair sounds essential - fab idea, so might copy. I can see myself gnawing on a chocolate brazil, with a robin artfully posed on one ear. Grin

Still finding it a bit hard to see further ahead than a little while, but I think I'm looking forward to Christmas. I finish rads on the 3rd, so the timing's right to celebrate a bit. Last year I had my spine fused on 11th December and remember looking forward to 2010 as the year of recovery and pain free living. Little did I know...Hmm

Kurri, really lovely to hear about your father's birthday. Sounded perfect. Hope you and DD had a good weekend too.

RWU, you're hip, honestly. The WI is incredibly trendy in these parts - so cool that bf and I were joking that if we every applied they'd most definitely turn us down.

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 13:12

Yes, KK, meant to say - happy birthday to your Dad, and hats off to you for knitting a cardi. Wow!

WI is not yet trendy in these parts. In fact it is so untrendy here that my Mum (who is 78) stopped going because it was so dull. I guess it depends where you are and who has joined up. So I bet RWU's one just got a whole lot more lively Wink

smee - roll on 2011. That will indeed be the year of recovery and pain free living.

I may even sign up for one of the Shiney/Lighter Life type threads in readiness. Or perhaps not, they'd run me out of town Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2010 13:15

oh I didn't watch Children in Need- have seen Heaven 17 on the telly recently though and was shocked at the deterioration of the once lovely Glenn Gregory

I would really recommend a Mindfulness course - I am totally not a hippy dippy crystals believing person, but this is well respected and sensible- we were shown a little film from the US, made in the 70s,where the innovator of Mindfulness (as a way of coping with stress,anxiety,depression,pain- it has always been a major part of Buddhism of course) was shown working with chronically ill and in pain patients. It is startlingly simple too,but obviously takes practice. I think we are all a bit in love with our teacher as she is wonderful Grin

Poor ds is sniffing in front of Airplane with a blanket and 2 extra layers...

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2010 13:17

take a look here

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 13:20

He was quite lovely, once, wasn't he? But not any more.

Mindfulness does sound good, I will research. I am also starting to research hypnotherapy. Out of nowhere I have a real hankering to train, don't know why.

Your poor old ds. There's a lot of snuffles and stuff about. Cheesy movies and lemsip, plus blankets and lots to eat is definitely the way to go (and sounds really quite appealing)

Pilates tonight. Groan.
