Oh just seen your last post with the link. Thanks!

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 13:52

Can anyone tell me where the Mumsnet secret santa bit is located? I have a few bits that I want to offer up for worthy recipients but can't seem to see where it is.... [clueless emoticon]

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2010 13:54

grr- he would be in front of Airplane if I could make the dvd thingy work- gah !
Might the secret santa thing be under Christmas ? or try MNHQ

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 13:59

Thanks. have already tried both of them but i may not be looking carefully enough. I'll try again...

SparkleRainbow · 22/11/2010 14:01

Thanks for the sickness advice, I am stomaching water at the moment, so I am sticking to that. I am so glad that the jury has decided the fondant fancy was not to blame, I do like them, and it was yellow, my fav Grin
Happy birthday KK's dad, should have said before sorry. How on earth did your dd manage to get a glass splinyter in her foot?

Smee - the world is safe again, ds at school but on duty as always, he had be buy a spy kit from the school book fair this morning, so it wil be secret messages, following clues and generally mayhem when he gets home, will take his mind off all the hospital appointment he has this week, and keep the world safe, our own 007 Grin

Cakes - you made me laugh so much with your description of your friends seeing you tomorrow that my dh came down stairs to see I was all right......Blush

MAS got that dvd working yet, I can't do ours, I ask my five year old dd to do it everytime double Blush

SparkleRainbow · 22/11/2010 14:01

What secret santa bit.....have I missed something? Blush again.

smee · 22/11/2010 14:08

I've missed it too then Sparkle. Cakes enlighten us?

Sparkle, your son does sound fab. Poor you with yet more hospital appointments for him though. Should think it's the last place you want to go.

Heaven 17, now there's a band and a half. Am glad I didn't see the wrinkled version though. Cakes do you mean your head thing gets frozen off?? If so it's not too bad, though am only saying that second hand. My friend had something taken off his face and he said it was okay, but felt a bit weird. Naturally you'll still need treats afterwards. Grin

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 14:11

sparkle - my dd bought that spy kit at our school book fair. I am an enemy code named Sly Dark Fox [quite proud emoticon] and not allowed to see what is being written and planned.....

What hosp appts has poor little ds got, then? Sorry to be nosey/slow, but I hope he is OK.

I am not sure what I am talking about either ref secret santa but there was a thing last year where people could nominate others for little gifts, and they were matched up to other people who had little things to offer and send off. I was apparently nominated for a gift last year but nothing ever arrived, which is fine, I was mightily pleased just to be thought of, but i thought that this year I would come up with a few things to offer if they were felt appropriate. I don't know what it's called, and can't find it. Aaargh!

Pennies · 22/11/2010 14:11

Loving your pics RWU and MAS! Glad to hear wound is on the mend Cupcaked and I hope you're feeling a bit better, Sparkle. I felt very nauseous at the beginning and my guts were shot to bits as well out of sheer stress.

Very exciting day in Pennies Towers as I collected our kitten this morning. i've spent most of the morning crawling around the utility room on all fours whilst playing with him. In true cat stylee he has totally rejected the soft and inviting bed I made for him out of a cardboard box and some vet bed and instead opted to crash out on a pile of those canvas bags that you often get free with magazines.

No idea what to call him though. He's a british blue and I really want to call him Boris, after Boris Johnson (don't ask Blush) but the kids don't like the name but they do prefer his media nickname i.e. BoJo. However, that sounds a bit too much like blow job and a number of friends have already pointed that out so I'm not sure that's a goer. He's a real purr-er though so maybe Purrcy or summat...

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 14:16

Cross posted smee - I knew you'd remember Heaven 17 with your Rum Runner credentials.

Yes, the head thing gets frozen off. Thanks for letting me know it isn't too bad. GP said he didn't want to do it as they 'bleed like buggery' (apologies MAS) so he referred me to a mate. Apparently it may leave a flesh coloured scar but I am not too bothered as I can cover that with make-up eventually, the offending lump is - well, lumpy, and very bright red. It is vile. You'd think I'd remember when it first popped up but I can't - i think it was around the time dd was born.

Treats will be lined up ready and waiting.

smee · 22/11/2010 14:35

Ooh, kitten!! MAS has one too Pennies. Think your friends are right about Bojo. Grin

smee · 22/11/2010 14:36

Meant to say thanks to MAS for that link. Am going to look later, as am supposed to be working. Can hear the fridge calling me though..

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 14:44

Pennies - I am also agreeing that BoJo is a bit dangerous.

Purrcy is lovely. Or how about Duncan (James - Blue)

No ideas, really, but I'd really quite like a British Blue Envy

SparkleRainbow · 22/11/2010 15:01

Very Envy of the kitten. I have two lovely old girls though, and I love them to bits, neither of them are real lap cats though.

Cakes - I don't think I properly mentioned before, but my ds inherited from me a genetic conditon which causes severe joint pain and joint dislocations. He lives most of his life with some degree of pain, he has very poor coordination and frequently falls, finds it difficult to write etc. He is very bright though so school are hoping that a computer will help him and trying to organise one. The main problem for him though is that he easily dislocates vertebrae c2 and c3 in his neck, which unfortunately is life threatening, or can result in paralysis whenever it happens. We go hospital a lot, appointments ambulance after he falls, physio, drs are a bit rubbish, no joined up thinking for him, no experience as there is no record of another child anywhere doing what he does. He has two appointments this week, one is with the clinical pyscholoi=gist to help him come to terms with it all, a lot for a 7 yr old. Sad

SparkleRainbow · 22/11/2010 15:04

Oh have to go to do school run.....back later Smile

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 15:07

Crikey sparkle - poor ds, as you say, a lot for a 7 year old to deal with. Sad

And poor you as well, joint pain is rubbish, even when it's not actually life threatening.

School run here too. No great posh cat names springing to mind so far...

smee · 22/11/2010 15:12

My Sparkle, that's a lot for all of you to deal with. How scary when he dislocates his vertebrae. Is it on of those things that will improve once he's older? Really hope it is.

Got to run to school now too. Hope your DS loves his spy kit. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/11/2010 16:59

poor boy Sparkle- that is a huge lot for him to deal with, and you.
Pennies- kitten sounds wonderful - I like the name Boris- my bf's cat was called Boris but it got shortened to Boz.
Actually Blue is a good name- pictures please !

I am glad you aren't having any surgery with blood Cakes-anything on the head/face seems to bleed a lot.
Have fed the boy on lots of treats to cheer him- didn't manage to figure out the dvd,so put it in the computer instead - got him a Simpson's comic and a copy of Mojo(he loves music mags and has a subscription to Clash and one for Wire-which is a bit obscure and weird- sometimes we get Q and Uncut - nurturing his music career Grin

How VERY cool. No wonder he didn't fancy school.

(I can't work our DVD either...

sandripples · 22/11/2010 21:23

Hi, won't post much as have had whole day at work, but good on you all with cardis, mindfulness etc. Wish I could join in more!

Anyway main point here is that as you know I booked a venue for a party on Saturday - to say thank-you to a lot of people. Well, I had seen the venue from the adjacent restaurant but hadn't actually been in - till yesterday. And guess what ---- it has no walls ShockShockShockShockConfused!!!!! And now you tell me snow is forecast??????

Its a barn with a good roof and I had thought it had trendy glass walls. Turns out the walls are only screens so it is in fact open to the elements. Imagine if its chilly and all my friends standing around freezing?

So I have spoken to the venue girl who booked this (without mentioning there were no walls I might add) and she's explained there's a fire at one end and ceiling heaters. I think she was a bit worried I was going to sream at her, wich I didn't but I did want to talk about what might be done. I've brought the time forward so we'll start at 1830 and I've emailed all my friends to advise wrapping up, and to bring a horse blanket - just have to hope we don't have a hurricane or anything. And its a good thing I've booked the hot buffet..........

Cupcaked - Yes it was me who was diagnosed last December - Christmas was a great distraction and I enjoyed it a lot. The Dx was early December so I did gointo paralysis/shock mode for a couple of weeks but had adjusted a bit by the time I needed to start cooking for 8 guests plus our family of 4! It was actually lovely to have a houseful. The guests were good friends and very sadly had lost a sister to cancer about two years beforehand, so they were used to dealing with cancer.

I like the glitter in hair idea!

I have been hot and cold flushing today - have to take a layer off - bye for now.

Cakes - shall we try to lose half a stone by 22 December?

Cakesandale · 22/11/2010 23:06

SR - YES! I am up for it!! I'll weigh myself tomorrow!! I may not share the result, but I'll definitely give it a go...

KurriKurri · 22/11/2010 23:24

Too tired to post at length, but can I join the lose half a stone club too? Grin(will also not be revealing my weight)

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/11/2010 07:03

SR - am sure party venue will be fine -those heater things push out a lot of warmth and everyone will be clustered-advise layers and people can adjust. Is it this Saturday ?
Really hope you'll have a wonderful time.
I never weigh myself as I know I'd become obsessed by it (as a teen I weighed myself every day and plotted it on a chart) As long as my clothes fit as they should is my guide.
