Well I think it is beautiful. I hope it arrives, because I'm sure she'll love it.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/12/2010 14:06

yes,do hope it arrives KK -very elegant.
Hope Sparkle is ok..thinking of her.
Have trudged into town again (seem to have been every day) to buy ds some wellingtons that fit him; presents for dad from mum as she can't -hope I chose well - 3 books and some L'Occitane shower gel - and more wrapping paper and labels and various bits. Have to trudge out again later to take ds for haircut and for him to choose his presents for Gran, my mum and dad and his dad. MIL has no heating as boiler has gone funny - p oor thing- men should be coming today- hope so- it's her birthday too -86 I think. At least our flowers arrived.

Sounds like a busy day!

I've got that seasonal flu thing so am really not doing anything - can't even think straight Xmas Hmm

Pressies for your dad sound fab: not sure how anyone could object to L'Occitane smellies.

Dd is mighty miffed as I have moved her hair appointment to my place as it is much closer than hers and the weather is awful: they have booked her in with the woman with huge fake nails, which make dd gag and scratch her face Xmas Grin Have explained that it's madness to drive 15 miles for a haircut (she is VERY fussy) in this weather. TBH I'm not sure why I do it even in good weather

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/12/2010 14:24

ds is having a young girl do his,not our usual hairdresser-she is fully booked- hope he sits quietly- he is not keen on haircuts but really trusts Isobel, our girl.
I know my dad will love his shower stuff and hope the books are ok- one is the Duchess of Devonshire's autobiog. which am sure he will like as he loves the Mitfords.

Should I launch our 8th thread do you think ? this is running out !

Your presents for your dad sound lovely MAS.

My hair is an awful mess atm. DS's DP is coming over on thurs. so she has said she'll deal with it Grin - she paid her way through university by cutting hair.

I'm glad you like the pendant - I am always nervous about choosing personal type things in case I go disasterously wrong.

Cakesandale · 20/12/2010 14:40

Launch away!

The Mitford autobiography would get my vote: they are a fascinating family whatever you think of some of the more outlandish members - all of whom help to make for a more interesting read. Am sure you have done a fab job, especially in such difficult shopping conditions.

Boys and haircuts -I imagine that is even more of a struggle than my dd. You have my sympathy.

ItsKurriiiistmas · 20/12/2010 14:53

yes launch away MAS - a sparkly new thread for Christmas smile].

Should we just pop a little heads up on the end of this one to direct Sparkles to the new one?- I'd hate for her not to be able to find us.

sandripples · 20/12/2010 18:02

Desperately sneaking in before this thread is cut!

Worried about you Sparkle and really hope you're coping, whatever the news. The liklihood is that you'll feel you're not coping for a while if you've had bad news.
But the strange is that in due course, you'll find yourself coping again, honest.

Enjoying all stories of domestic applicance disasters as they cheer me up to see we're not the only ones. Our house is - I confess - a bit ramshackle as a dear friend commented recently. I mean we tend to make do rather than invest in everything being shiny and new. So I suppose we might have tried to spend £10k on getting whole new kitchen pipe arrangement, but we prefer to do other things with our money - like going to Tenerife, Italy, buying DD a saxophone etc etc. And those things have only been possible because of BC insurance money which we've spent now.

But I do think an oil tank should be indestructible tbh.

Have heard our frienmds in NZ might have to get whole house rebuilt somewhere else as noth house and the land were so damaged by that earthquake Xmas Shock

Its because they live near a river so the land is sandy. (remember that old story? Turns out to be spot on)

Anyway Sparkle, please come on here for support when you're up to it.

Love to all - waving!

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/12/2010 18:07

I will put a link to the new one !
ds was a bit unsure of new girl doing his hair- but she's done a very nice job- he is ridiculously sensitive-he is afraid of being snipped and has very thick 'sharp' hair which tickles when it's cut..I shall be holding his head still when he's 18 at this rate (though Isobel the usual hairdresser can get him to sit still)
We bought presents for ds to give (he bought them, though I had to point out things that might be nice) Also saw a book that my dad would perhaps like more than one of the three I chose for mum (it's Shappi Khorsandi's book about moving to UK from Tehran -dad and mum lived there for a few years and I was born there)
so might go and ask if I can swap it.
Does anyone know how long ginger in syrup should last (I have opened jar in fridge from last Christmas- use by date 2011 )
Off to have festive drinks later at my friend's house, not far to walk.
