Fancy inadvertantly buying a horse - you need to be more careful RWU - but it sounds very exciting. Do you know -um- know anything about horses?
Haggis- in case you're reading this, great to hear how far you've come and best wishes.
MAS - hope all is well with everything on your side - your niece, Celeste and yourself emerging from the counselling.
KK - I have rather achey legs too - am wondering if its the Arimidex. I also think I need to lose weight to reduce strain on my joints, and fairly soon I won't have much excuse not to try as my energy is recovering, although not 100% yet. Sore knees make it difficult to garden which could be annoying.
Anyway, Tenerife is a strange place. We stayed in the North and thank goodness as the South end looked completely horrendous when we made a short visit. I have never seen anywehere so tacky and unattractive.
Best bit was definitely the trip up Mount Teide which was fantastic - even my DS though it was 'epic'. Its an unspolit, wild volcanic landscape and I'd never seem such before. You drive up through misty pine forests then emerge into bright sunny lava fields of chaotic rocks and sand and brightly coloured rocks - very little vegetation - really fascinating to see the huge crater and you feel as though you're on Mars!
Whale watching was also nice - small whales but very close. And I had my first swim for 10 months which was lovely. In the sea.
DS had his 2nd diving lesson and is getting quite keen so am thinking about a future trip where he could do 3-4 day course and DH and I could amuse ourselves.
The island has been very spolied all round the coast apart from a few areas. As soon as you go up into the mountains its lovely. but the planners for the coast need to knock a lot down and start again really! IMO its worse than Mallorca which has lots of pretty bits. I wouldn't go there again but the holiday marked the end of a chapter for us and I'm glad we went. (It was a bit too hot for me - esp at night as no AC. Very pleasant in the morning and from about 4pm though)
We saw lots of exotic plants and trees - both generally around the North of the island and also in the Botanic gardens. LOvely buttress root trees and also giant figs with enormous roots that drop down from branches and root down making complicated structures. We tried to do a longish walk in one of many deep gorges but when we arrived it was closed due to rock falls, which was disappointing. Nice restaurant there for lunch though.
So now its back to work on Tuesday, so I'm trying to tidy the house up a bit this w/e. Had about 6 loads of washing to do but am reaching the end!
