Oh more hurray - what a relief, an excellent day all round MASSmile

smee · 12/11/2010 17:17

Hi Sparkle - I was diagnosed on the same day as my hospital do a one stop sort of clinic. So I had: mammogram, ultrasound and fine needle biopsies, then went back a few hours later for results. I had to return next day for a core biopsy, but I knew by then it was cancer. Everyone's right though, whatever system they use, I'm sure they'll be lovely once you get there. Hope the weekend's not too torturous. Keep yourself busy if you can.

MAS, hooray! Brilliant news about niece and DS. Hope you're celebrating both.

RWU, I know you deserve it, but do you think your Uncle would adopt us all? We're quite low maintenance and would be ever so grateful. Grin Don't gallop into any more hedges over the weekend, now will you.

Kurri, of course you're sore - stop overdoing it woman. And being in a Ken Russell film's mighty cool, even if it is only fleeting.

Cakes, do you mean the Rum Runner club? If so, I went too, though I can't claim to know any of Duran Duran, so I shall bow to your hipness. And my Onc does that resigned look too - every time I mention my aching ribs. Do you think they teach them it at medical school?!

Am off out to the pub in a bit to cheer my lovely friend up. Her house sale has fallen through again - third time. Can't believe they've been so unlucky. Wishing everyone a less windy weekend. Can't believe the weather out there.

SparkleRainbow · 12/11/2010 17:49

Ok just have to gear myself up for it, whilst taking my mind off it for the weekend......I am sure a large glass of white wine will help Grin Thank you everyone, I will let you know what happens.

smee · 12/11/2010 18:50

Sparkle, a glass of wine sounds like an excellent idea - you more than deserve it. Keep going with the treats. Smile

SparkleRainbow · 12/11/2010 19:19

Thank you, have sent dh out to get some, trying to amuse myself with a lovely labour thread on here, one baby born one to go, it has really lifted me to experience someone elses joy by tinternet.....sad but true Blush

KurriKurri · 12/11/2010 20:00

Yes, get absorbed in something interesting, and a glass of wine is the way to go, (chocs never go amiss either) Smile

reallywoundup · 12/11/2010 23:27

sparkle- wine is the way to go Wink

i am home, dry and in bed long day but i've got the day off from horses tomorrow, hopefully i'll just sit in a warm bath soothing my aching arse Grin have an adorable pic of my new baby (of the four legged variety!)- shall link in the morning when i can feel my extremities again!

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/11/2010 23:29

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 13/11/2010 14:07

Aww - he is a stunner RWU, adorableSmile

Lixa · 13/11/2010 15:23

Well I am now on Day 2 of Tamoxifen! So far I think I have a slightly weird metal taste in my mouth, but it's fairly minor, not putting me off eating or anything so not too bad.

My meeting with the oncologist went so well the other day! HE confirmed that the chemo (I finished my 6 cycles of chemo 2w ago) worked amazingly well - even better than he could possibly have hoped for he said :) :) . The cancer in teh breast has shruck back to little more than scar tissue, the cancer in my lymph nodes isn't even showing on the scan, and the 2 liver & 2 bone areas (which were all v small anyway thank heavens, only 1- 2cm or smaller) have shrunk a lot too. in fact he said if that was my 1st liver scan it would have been called completely clear as the 1 area left showing was so tiny - only because they know where to look exactly can they actually see it.

I'm feeling so much better, really like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders for now. I know what the survival statistics are, I know they aren't good, but bugger me - I am in a much better position than I was in 4m ago at diagnosis, and there is an actual proper chance that I will still be around for a few years. They plan to do a PET scan in 6m or so & that will tell them how active (or not) it all still is. There's a chance the chemo has actually properly killed a lot of it right off.

So yay! Now let's hope the tamoxifen does it's stuff!

KurriKurri · 13/11/2010 15:47

Lixa - that is great, I'm so pleased for you, - you've had a tough old time and you deserve some good news Smile

Also good to get going on the tamox., I vaguely remember an odd taste as well at the beginning, - but think it soon disappears.

Have a lovely relaxing weekend Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/11/2010 19:35

oh that is good Lixa - am so pleased for you am sure the tamox. will do it's work ! Have a great weekend too Smile

OP posts:
smee · 14/11/2010 18:01

Hooray from me too Lixa. What brilliant news!! Am ever so pleased for you. The Tamoxifen's supposed to make a real difference too, so fingers crossed that'll kill even more of it. I've been having odd mouth tastes too, though I can't work out if it's still related to chemo, as my taste hasn't recovered totally from the last round.

RWU, aw he is most lovely - almost makes me want a horse, but then again am sure he's got rather large teeth, even if they don't show in the photo. Grin

Sparkle really good luck for tomorrow. Maybe another glass of wine tonight would help? Seems essential somehow. Hang on in there, at least you'll know a bit more soon. Let us know you're alright when you can.

KurriKurri · 14/11/2010 18:33

Yes good luck from me too Sparkle, will be thinking of you tomorrow Smile

sandripples · 14/11/2010 19:17

Lixa, I'm very pleased for you - hurray!

Sparkle - good luck from me too. I had to wait for one week for the core biopsy result.

RWU - that photo is lovely - ahhhhh! Hope you're aching less now.

All - I've had a brill w/e in Glasgow - it involved a lot of extremely nice eating! First at my friend's house on Friday, then in Edinburgh with my relations who are aged 85 and 95 and still gad around on the bus depsite their age and the fact that one of them had a big op to remove stomach cancer 2 years ago! It was great to see them so hale and hearty and they were very glad to see me as I hadn't been to Scotland since my diagnosis. Then DH and I and my friend were out again for dinner last night and lunch today - totally stuffed! Even thogh I tried to pick light choices. Have to live on thin broth for a week now! If anyone knows Cafe Gandolfi, that's where we were today. I've been before and love it! Wild furniture.

Weather was not bad and we did some short walks. Also visited the Botanics in both Ed and Glasgow, where they had a special exhibition of plants from the Canaries which was rather nice as we'd just seen them in the wild 2 weeks ago when in Tenerife.

Bit tired now. Kk I have no idea what lube is and thought I'd been not ask when you typed it as I thought it might be something that would make me blush...

KurriKurri · 14/11/2010 19:27

You don't want to know SR Grin

Your weekend sounds lovely, I think I may do a thin broth week next week too!

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/11/2010 07:02

Weekend sounds fab SR - how lovely.
Lots of good thoughts to you today sparkle Smile

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 15/11/2010 10:08

Good luck to sparkle - and yay! to Lixa. That is really good news, i think the best possible in the circumstances.
The metallic taste doesn't last long, I don't think.

A double dose of fab news too from MAS, I hope you celebrated thoroughly.

RWU- Awww, what a great picture. Shame about the bum muscles, but probably a price worth paying.

Smee - yes, I do mean the Rum Runner, i think I am a good bit older than you so I may be talking a few years before you got there, though. I am taking between 1978 and about 1983 at the latest. I used to hang out in there far more than was good for me.

Exciting news in the cakes household - dh's niece is getting married next May and dd is a bridesmaid. Much excitement here from dd - so all I need to do now is negotiate the time off school (they live in the US). Oh, and save up for plane tickets Hmm

sandripples · 15/11/2010 11:47

Cakes - how exciting, a trip to the US! Whereabouts?

MAS - I trust you are also saving up for plane tickets for your DS. I was p[leased about your niece's news too BTW - what a relief.

I also have a niece getting married - April 2011 - but in Surrey so less expensive exciting - still we're looking forward to it.

Bit tired today after w/e away but it was worth it. Better go and have my thin broth now and a big walk. Lovely sunny day here.

Thinking of Sparkles and Lixa.

KurriKurri · 15/11/2010 12:24

How exciting Cakes, trip to the US will be great! I bet DD is looking forward to it Smile

I have managed to confine myself to a cup of coffee and a slice of toast this morning. And am planning a healthy lunch and dinner. I went a bit overboard on the biscuits last weekBlush

I was planning to go shopping this morning, but too tired. Which is a bit frustrating, I'll try again tomorrow. A friend is having a hysterectomy this week, and will be in hospital a few days. So I want to be able to get in and visit her - she's been waiting absolutely ages for this op., and been feeling quite ill, so it will be good to get it done.

DH has found a few dead rats in the garden (yuk) so hopefully that problem is on the wane.

Sparkles - good luck for today Smile

Cakesandale · 15/11/2010 12:38

I'm, going to be joining KK and SR on thin soup. Too much wine and chocolate here - and now a wedding to go to, with only six months to get into a frock. Aaargh!

The wedding is in Maryland which will apparently be scorching hot at the end of May. So it's going to be a light frock as well, with not much covering up involved. Double yikes. Make mine a large bowl of thin gruel please. [gulp]

SR that sounds like my kind of weekend. I love Edinbugh, and Glasgow. And how fab to have elderly rellies who are still hale and heart in spite of everything. An inspiration.

KK - listen to your body and have a rest. Am sure the shops can wait. I've been out and it's colder than an igloo as well, so treat the tiredness as a Good Thing. If you stay in DH will have chance to dispose of the rat bodies as well. Wink Hope your friend does OK with her hysterectomy. A nasty op, but worth it in the end.
